My wonderful education

Featured Replies

I'm in a basic computer class. I'm not actually sure what the class is suppose to focus on, but our teacher switches back and fourth between "Internet Basics" and learning Photoshop - two things I don't really need to learn.

Anyway, some of us were doubting the ability of our teacher and whether or not he actually grades our work we turn in, so we decided to have some fun with the answers we wrote on our papers.

Question: Explain the difference between a domain name and an IP address.

Answer: A domain name replaces an IP address. The act is known as "DNS tripping" on the internet and can often busy the servers if too many people "trip up on DNS" at the same time.

Question: How can you find our who owns a domain name?

Answer: Send the webmaster threatening emails to reveal their identity.

Question: How has the internet changed the overall lifestyle of people?

Answer: The web makes us all lazier. Before, if I wanted to research something, I'd have to walk all the way to the library - and man! The library smells awful. Have you ever been? I can't stand the way those stale books and stuck up librarians smell. Seriously - here's a hint to anyone who thinks about becoming a librarian: bathe regularly. I know its hard for you to tear yourself away from those books, but customer satisfaction is a must, and there's no way I'm satisfied when I have to smell your odorous body stinking up the entire library.

Those are only some of the answers I wrote...and I got a 100% on the paper. I'm glad my tax dollars support such a wonderful education I'm receiving

You should be happy man, in most developing countryes, if you want to have a reasonable education (comparable to USA public schools), you'll have to pay quite a lot for it, maybe the price of a small car for year of school, wich only the upper middle class and the rich can pay for.

That because brazilians (my case) pay annually about 50% of all they get on taxes.

Then you complain about YOUR taxes not being well used?

At the start of one of my internetworking modules we were asked "What is the internet?", my answer was:

"A place for 50 year old men from Kentucky to sit in darkened rooms wearing sweat pants and talk online to other 50 year old men whilst pretending they are teenage girls"

Wha-aaat's wrong with Kentucky? I like it here :P

wow deja vu, lol. im in a "web design" class, which the teacher doesn't teach anything. i havent learned anything about web design. our teacher is the dumbest person ever..

splintercellsheepzf9.jpg

Exact opposite here.

I'm in C++ and Web design, and have been learning a ton all year. :) .

Really? I didn't know - purely coincidence.

Half of my web development lectures are filled with the lecturer's anecdotes about his good times with Tim Berners Lee. We get the impression that he feels bitter that he's not higher up in the world.

Some people are changed by being a moderator. I wouldn't be.

In computer lit it was basically MS Office 101 :P

We learned how to copy and paste! woot!

I didn't bother to take the "web design" this year, knowing that it's only a course in Frontpage... and not very good at that (On the school website we have 1mb images that are resized by your browser.... into an itty bitty thumbnail that takes a while to load =\

I just posted something! ^_^ to the terrorist...er... kirbybeam.

In school our computing class was terrible. I don't think the teachers really knew as much as they should have done. If they had I might have actually been able to take higher computing.

I did somehow manage to take higher computing but my teacher wasnt very knowledgible either.

I was predicted an A for it in 5th year, got a C so I retook it and still only got a B. Although I suppose I cant blame it all on my teacher though :? .

I'm not really bothered that I didn't take it. I have an Information Systems degree now :P

Hmm I can get a computing degree but I can't get credit standard grade computing!

i only had one good computer teacher out of all 4 years of high school. last one was so bad me and a friend petitioned the guidance counselors, then the principle. they didnt keep her the next year, so at least those kids wont have to worry about it. sad thing is she probably went to a different school and got a job there. :?

I'm lucky in that my high school allows you to take a programming class to fulfill your computer class requirement, and my programming teacher is amazing.

He used to teach/manage at Apple for like 20 years, but decided he'd rather come back and teach highschool. So not only is he a genius, but he's got really good real world experience.

If this is high school: Tough it out, there is a lack of qualified teachers. At least you don't have a Physical Education teacher, teaching you maths or science. Why don̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t you be proactive about your education and teach yourself the things you should be learning, instead of complaining about your free education.

It̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s not the teachers fault that there isn̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t enough incentive to attract qualified multidisciplinary teachers; it sucks that you can̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t make as good as a living teaching people as you can doing a white collar job.

If this is a university course or a private high school: contact the department and report their lack of proper teaching and grading, in this case you are paying for an education and receiving something you could get from the understaffed public system.

Thats cool :) . I can't remember if my school allows that, probaly does, but didn't matter because I did one a while ago anyways (in 8th grade that counted for high school, lol.)

My teacher ('tis a she) is a preaty good programmer. I haven't realy seen the extent of what she can do, but at least she can teach it to us good.

Currious, but what programing 'yah in GSW? I'm doing C++ :)

No we don't have a P.E. teacher teaching our math and science.

They are all 25 year-old guys/men that flirt with under-developed freshmen.

I am very proactive about my learning. I learn as much as I can on my own, but teachers are supposed to help, not make us stupidER.

I do use my time to teach me things I don't know (should be learning? Not sure about that though since this class is very very basic).

Just as a note to everyone: I'm not actually complaining - I just thought it was funny that I got away with writing things like that. :P

Any time I tried to learn something new and look ahead in the book in Computer Literacy my teacher would threaten to kick me off of the computers for the rest of the year if I wasn't doing something "approved".....which about the only thing approved was the Ainsworth keyboard program

Don't know if any of you are familiar with Ainsworth, but I did about 700 drills that year >.< My max was a hearty 101 wpm :D! (and for those that don't know Ainsworth, the drills are just random characters... nothing that you can memorize and tap out a 150+wpm on ;) )

That sounds exactly like my networking class last year, and web design and java programming classes this year.
