I have never used a crossbow since... they are very, very underpowered, I think then only time any ranger (or in that case any person) uses one is for the dragon slayer quest, and then they never use one again. And they fire more accuratly. Plus, they could make you hold the crossbow on your shoulder, instead of on the side. Hmm... maybe also have poisoned bolts and Scatter bolts. It does't make the bow shooter faster or hit harder so i see no point of making different types of metals for the bow. Different types of ammunition is what is needed not changing the bow. The tensile strength of the metal is what propels the bolt and thus gives the crossbow its power. Firing a slightly harder piece of ammunition at the same speed isn't going to achieve much.
