Mr_Putter
Most probably, if you are planning to spend around $300 get a 7900GT or a for around $180 a 7600GT should do the job and would be a good match with your other hardware. It is unlikely his motherboard will support PCI-E... maybe, but the ATI x300 series were dominantly PCI-E cards. So there is a slight chance that his one is AGP.1. How do I check. 2. If most were PCI-E, then why would mine be AGP? 3. Is PCI-E good or bad?
Anesthesia
2. Because you might only have an AGP port, in which case you would have either bought the AGP version or the system maker chose it. I assumed you wouldn't have PCI-E as most systems of that time (can't tell exactly when as I don't really know ATI model release times), especially budget ones as yours seems to be, didn't. 3. Good Some people are changed by being a moderator. I wouldn't be.

Download and run the program 'everest', it should tell you whether it is AGP or PCI-E. http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html Maybe it could be worthwhile to start a new thread instead of going into a off topic conversation in this one.
