try and draw some stacks of coins at random places in your sig at least u will see it are coints then lol and maby u want to make the edges of the sand less smooth.

To shade use the Pixel Guide that is posted in The Gallery, easy to find.

 

And coins, just make some round things, not straight lines, make them really appear as coins. The lines make t look like sand or something like, you dont have to put coins everywhere, just some places, so it gives a general Idea.

well I'm no pixeler but I think those runes are a little too big aswell as them being paper thin, try making them smaller, then them being one pixel high won't matter much
