June 13, 200620 yr Hello all, I'm an old time player back from 2001ish. I quit a few years back but logged in recently and found that I have become pretty rich thanks to rare item inflation. So now I have over 100 mil gold and absolutely no use for it. For about a week now, I've been logging onto the New York servers and hanging around the varrock square. There I mainly walk around and look at people's interactions. My main purpose is to give money to the worthy and shun scammers and beggers. The problem is, this seems to be harder than I anticipated. My system is rather simple: 1. I do not give money to beggers (especially people who ask for 1k+ or constantly ask) 2. I do not give money to people looking for 'cex' 3. I do not give money to lvl 3 people (they do not need it as they dont know what to do with it, and most likely trying to get pity money to then transfer to a main) 4. I do give money to people whom I see helping others (ie: giving them free iron, sparing some money, talking them someplace, helping them on a quest) I often give money to level 10-35 people because by then, they know how to use it and they need it the most. And sometimes if I can tell someone geninuely needs it or got scammed/hacked (rare), I will help them out to. Usually, I will give between 2-10k depending on the situation as I found that giving this amount works the best. Why am I posting here? Well, I want to see if anyone got any good tips/advice/suggestions for giving or could share some of their own stories. And I'm also considering 'hiring' an agent or 2 to help me in my quest to spread the wealth a bit to the kind people whom make RS worthwhile. :D
June 13, 200620 yr Hey, that's a great idea! One thing to do is buy/smith full iron sets, going to lumbridge, and giving it to those who don't ask for it. I might be able to help you sometimes, if you want!
June 13, 200620 yr i was once in a clan tt was devoted to giving free newbie packages. we juz went around lumbridge respawn giving packages tt have iron scimmy, full iron, gloves, boots, def ammy
June 13, 200620 yr i was once in a clan tt was devoted to giving free newbie packages. we juz went around lumbridge respawn giving packages tt have iron scimmy, full iron, gloves, boots, def ammy he i did that to...but i had found 100 steel plates and gave them out in varock center it was fun :) and best of all...it felt awesome i felt like i was helping runescape be a better place...not sure how but it felt like it :D i'm devoted to helping newbies Listen to the mighty words of Bloodredsword. Tip it MGC Xbox live leader board!
June 13, 200620 yr I gave away free newb gear once too. It was just leather stuffs that I didnt want. Maybe one day I will hand out free iron sets. Actually nah thats bad smithing exp. Good day sir, how may I help you?Id like to access my bank account please.Certainly sir.
June 13, 200620 yr Hey Toilet, it's great to see someone making a really good use out of their money, instead of hoarding it. I'm glad there are still a few people who still know how to be generous. Same with the rest of you, good job! I really wouldn't call it an era. It was more of a definitive time period during which dinstinctive characteristics were expressed in similar ways.
June 13, 200620 yr Author hmm, actually, I'm not too keen on giving complete new players full iron sets. It kinda of ruins the experience for them, you know the one where you first go around picking everything up, then trying to make some money, then buying an bronze or iron plate or something. By then you know a bit about the game and understood the value of making money and stuff. I think every new player should be allowed to go through this stage without having full iron armor heaped on them. Spoil them early and they will become beggers (some, not all). Help them when they really need it, and they become grateful and a good RS player. At least, that's my opinion. :)
June 13, 200620 yr Well just to tell you some lvl 3 players are actually wise. There is a thing called pure skillers that play for quite some time and they know what to do with money, but they can be quite rare. A reflection is just a distorted reality held by glass and your mind.
June 13, 200620 yr Author exactly, another reason not to give to lvl 3. most or some of them have mains and it would be pointless to give to a lvl 3 who has a decently rich main character. usually, lvl 10 and up is a safe bet and new players are generally noticeable (unless it's an experienced player pretending to be a newb) :P i just dont want people who already have the money to have more. i really do just want to give it to the genuinely needy people who have worked hard (keyword there) and is willing to give help to others in turn.
June 13, 200620 yr You should donate whenever theres a nod. 75/80 Hitpoints | 81/85 Strength | 1/1 Pray | 1/1 Defense [Make Me Rich!] | [Brutal Ownage]
June 13, 200620 yr donate to some level 50 person. *hint hint* I would to it with games. I did one just 10 minutes ago. Have three questions for players level 30-60 and the one that gets the most wins. My reward was just 10 k and a addy helm but im sure with 100 million you can spare a bit more.
June 13, 200620 yr I find this to be very enjoyable. As you said I try to avoid giving to beggars, instead I give to people not expecting it. Often times being a level 3 skiller people trade and try to give me full iron or whatnot they are pleasantly suprised when I put up 50k or so to pay for it. Depending on my mood I've been known to give out everything from 1k to a santa hat (only did that once and now he is one of my best rs friends lol). Don't get any ideas though anyone lol remember I don't give to beggars :o You may also want to try hosting a few nice drop parties it is great fun to watch ppl scramble for rune kites and such and they are usually very thankful.
June 13, 200620 yr I am a relatively new player, but I love the idea of helping out those who need it.....like has previously been said nothing better than giving someone something for free....especially when you keep declining the trade when they offer you money  ......I just wish more people where as kind especially when it comes to mining !! Running away is always an option!
June 13, 200620 yr Whenever I get on Rs these days on my main that is all I do. I get too bored so I go give out money to the newbs. Pointless really, as I didn't get that help when I started out, but its always nice to do it anyway! :) You want some ideas about giving. Hang around lumby theres plenty of people in desperate need.
June 13, 200620 yr Idd say this: just help youre best mates. heres an example: Im f2p and im gathering 1k steel bars, 1k logs and 15k feathers. my mate is member and will fletch them into 15k iron arrows for me. he gets 3k of it everytime he does it. I also gave him 2k willows for free cous hes my mate and needs fletching lvls. Dont waste time helping ppl u hardly know, just let u and youre mates help eachother out

June 13, 200620 yr You want some ideas about giving. Hang around lumby theres plenty of people in desperate need. I find that they are usually newbs who have wandered into the wild or just being lazy because there isn't a bank nearby......althouhg as with everything the bad eggs spoil the ones who are truly desperate Running away is always an option!
June 13, 200620 yr Mmhmm. Nice idea, but giving away stuff soon gets a nuisance instead of a fun thing to do. Slightly off-topic: I was smithing steel plates one day in Varrock and I saw this girl pass by. She was wearing full steel, except for her plate, which was iron. So yeah, here I am, with my plates, thinking "oh well, let's be nice". I trade her and give her the plate, she accepts and then starts flaming me for following her and bothering her and so on. I thought "huh?" and walked away, regret already filling my poor wounded heart. Then she starts pm'ing me and flaming me again. Ten minutes later, she calmed down, said she had mistaken me for someone else (uhuh) and begged for full mith. I don't know if there's a lesson to be learned here, but I'm very careful these days. I'm glad to help people out (as long as they don't go "plz" - if you can't be bothered to write 'please' in full, don't expect me to make time for you), but I never ever give stuff away to complete strangers.
June 13, 200620 yr It's good to see that you're giving your money to the right people, as well. This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.
June 13, 200620 yr ive been scammed a 100k and to me thats a big thing . i dont make much money and it hurt so bad to know that 1 of my best friends did it. now i am dedicated to helping others out especially the low levels.I do not just tell how to avoid scammers, i hang with them telling them which offers are scams. i get a bunch of pms asking things like' can u really trim armour?' if they need something like oaks for firemaking exp ill get them some.these ppl know ill be there for them on watever they nedd.food for wildy, ores for smithing. if i had more money id do the same thing as you. wat your doing is so great to know that its out of the kindness of your heart. you are a great player who believes in whats right. there arent many of those around anymore. id be honored to help you out with the gift giving but id understand if you found all this stuff a little corny. thats too bad when you do something good but it sounds too corny to be true alll because u arent used to playing with helpful players
June 13, 200620 yr I̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢m not new, I̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢m not a kid, but I̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢m a lazy player, so I have virtually few RS played hours. But I̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢m remembering the time I was on 10-lvl and I was scammed with the wine of Zamorak trick. And there I was, with nothing (because it was nothing worthing to keep in bank). So I'm helping those who are asking especially if they are on low levels. Because if I have 100k Gps in bank I can do a fire and I can buy an axe, but if you have nothing you'll have to search whole map to find something to help you going. If you don't want to help scammers don't give GPs. Instead you can give useful things: axes, pickaxes, matchboxes, nets, hammers... Since I was scammed I have more than one matchbox in my bank, even if now I can afford to buy one anytime. In my opinion that's what you can offer. For a less than 10 lvl player 1k Gp worthing items are priceless. For lvl50 1k Gp is nothing.
June 13, 200620 yr I was doing this too a while back, but then it put a hole in my pocket. I gave full iron to lvls 3 to 10, then 5k coins to like lvl 10's. I stopped thought because before I realized it, I sepnt over 100k :? But it wasn't wasted. Good to see there are some good players on runescape. 1600+ Total. 18.3m/25m - DFS (or maybe a BGS)
June 13, 200620 yr I make it a point not to give out money, and here's why. I've had players I've given money/items/help to add me and constantly beg me for money. And that in and of itself is annoying, but not that bad. It gets bad when it turns into a liability situation. A new player who I gave quest help to asked me to do his quests and gave me his password. I asked him several times to change it, because if he got hacked I didn't want the liability. I'm not sure he ever did. My preference is to give small items, like full steel or mith, or help when people need it, and disappear from whence I came. It's generally a bad situation when a new player learns to depend on you instead of figuring out the game for themselves. [br]
June 13, 200620 yr I personally wont hand out aid packages randomly it can encourage begging. I will give people things if they are not greedy and do not ask for free stuff. For example I was chopping maples by seers bank, 2 people were having a conversation one said do you like using a steel axe the other replied it is all I have and I have no money to buy better, because he was just talking and not begging I gave him my rune axe, I had another 10 in the bank anyway but he was well pleased. Another time a chap was trying to sell ess, because it wasent pure and I was crafting laws at the time I declined he offerd me a certain amount for a rune pick axe, he was trying his best to get a good axe a was not begging so I gave him a rune pick. Someone asked me for 60gp at the tree gnome stronghold, I was theiving from the gnomes and gave the 3k that I had accumulated he was well pleased I only gave it him because he wasent greedy.
June 13, 200620 yr Well, I love smithing and occasionally I level it by making full steel outta bars. I then give out free armour to the newbies in lumby. More often I just talk to newbs especially in the mines, giving them advice about stuff. Once I gave this newbie character a spare pcik I'd picked up and then he logged on on another account and gave me some spare runes just for helping him. Best of luck with that money and helping out. It's good to see people who aren't greedy hoarders are still in game.
