Lowbie advise needed

Currently I am at 18 combat, 18 str, and 18 defense. Can str and defense go higher than my combat lvl?

Also I have done a few quests but am stuck on Vampire slayer. I have all the items needed yet the Vampire regenerates too fast. I cant seem to dmg him fast enough. I was using just a steel axe but now am using the sword reword from the Deamon Slayer quest. I am still thinking I need to train harder and grow a few more levels, but I do not know where to go. Rats and cows don't do anything for me except help me train crafting and cooking, LOL.

The wizzards at the tower seem to be too much for me unless I have lots of food. That doesn't really bother me but it makes for a very time consuming endever.

I have tried going into the sewers at verious locations but the zombies are way over my ability.

It seems at my lvl I just don't have the carrying capacity to survive and extended xp grind at any location I know of. Can anyone point me to a grind locationI might be over looking?

I've been avoiding magic due to the rune dependency also my charater is a stict frontal asault fighter. His name is Yona Equa, which in cherokee means, Big Bear.

Also I don't have any runes nore could I aford them. Magic, to me, has got to be the most expencive part of this game.

I've been in the goblin village while working on the goblin diplomacy quest. I found it was easy but the connectivity of the server was weak. I would lag badly and it was getting annoying. Guess too many people were in close for the server to remain stable.

just go to another world if you have a bad connection with the one your in

as for training the goblin village is your best bet

OK, still have the original question. Can your str and defense be lvled higher than your combat lvl? For example with my combat lvl being 18, can I expect to not gain any more str or defence over lvl 18?

Currently I am at 18 combat, 18 str, and 18 defense. Can str and defense go higher than my combat lvl?

Yes, if other stats are a lot lower.

The combat level formula for a melee fighter is something like

CombatLevel = floor(Attack*0.325 + Strength*0.325 + Defense*0.25 + HitPoints*0.25 + Prayer*0.125)

So if you trained Strength to 99 you would have about level 88 Hitpoints

and, if every other stat sayed as is, you would be around combat level 64

Use the Tip It calculator to experiment.

Also I have done a few quests but am stuck on Vampire slayer. I have all the items needed yet the Vampire regenerates too fast. I cant seem to dmg him fast enough. I was using just a steel axe but now am using the sword reword from the Deamon Slayer quest.

Do you have the stake also?

Well, if you get your attack to level 20, then you can use a mith scimmy.

That could help a lot.

Otherwise, go and death grab some red spider eggs and limpwort root.

Take both of them to the apothecary in Varrock.

If you have 5 gold with you, he will convert them into a nice 4 dose strength potion for you.

You can use that potion to help finish the vampire.

Death grabbing means to wear only 2 items and then go into a dangerous area

and grab the the thing that you want before the monsters kill you.

If you die then that's OK because you will keep the item that you grabbed since it's the allowed third death item.

(IIRC, this doesn't work for stackable items though)

Red spider eggs are found at the end of the Varrock sewers and under the Karamja volcano.

Limpwort roots are dropped by hobgoblins.

Hobgoblins can be found west of the crafting guild, edgeville dungeon, and above ground.

You can also try and get a Ruby Strength amulet. It adds +10 to strength bonus.

I am still thinking I need to train harder and grow a few more levels, but I do not know where to go. ...

Can anyone point me to a grind location I might be over looking?

Well, remember that you earn exp per hit that you do and not based on the monsters level.

Sp, I like to train on monsters much, much lower than me because

that way, I am constantly killing and I don't need any food.

So, there's nothing wrong with killing cows or low level goblins.

I suggest that you fight monsters near a bank.

Use the Tip It monster guide to select monsters.

If you have Attack 20 and Defense 20 then you can use Mith gear.

So, you might want to upgrade your gear, get a strength, ammy, and get that strength potion.

Oh, one final word, never, ever fight blue or black wizzies while wearing metal armor!

Against wizzies, wearing "nothing" is better than wearing metal.

Hope this helps.

So range and magic has to do with combat lvl?

I have never trained either of those skills.

Sorta...

Your combat level is determined by your primary fighting method

plus your Defense, Hitpoints, and Prayer.

AFAIK, your primary fighting method is the largest of

(Attack + Strength)*26/80

or

Range*39/80

or

Magic*39/80

So until you raise your Range or Magic to about 24. you will be a melee fighter.

Hope this helps

I don't have a mith scim but I do have a mith bearded axe. Would that be about the same in effect? Also what about the silverlight sword, is it any good?

Oh and yes, I have the stake and the garlic.

I have worked at the goblin village and now have 20 combat lvl 20 defense and 25 str.

You're going to want to do some more fighting. You need a system - I suggest this:

1. Kill chickens with melee until you have roughly 1000 feathers.

2. Build your fishing until you can fly fish, and use these feathers to fly fish trout in Edgeville.

3. Use those trout to train! Fight anything you can handle, be they men, barbarians (probably a bit too strong for you right now), or anything up to Guards. You'll want to get everything up around 30 or so. It really won't take as long as you think.

Building your skills is work that you put in that can't be taken away. EXP and levels are permanent, and don't be afraid of building them too high. It's better safe than sorry, and it's fun to be able to kill new things.

PS: STAY OUT OF THE WILDERNESS!

Guess my gear really needs looking into. I was working on making my own gear but it is slow and I only have a set of bronze plate legs, iron full helm, bronze chain chest, leather vambracers, leather boots, and a cape i found at the goblins. I only have about 2746 coin so I dont know if I could aford anything better.

I have looked all over the tip it site but I can't find an equipment guide. Anyone got something to guide as to what gear for what lvl would be sufice?

With your stats, you should be looking at Full Mith. Your armor need will probably always be greater than your smithing ability, so just go buy some. WC, mine, or fish for money, get around 15K, then buy Full mith with a scimmy, and an ammy of defense. You will be fine.

...Also what about the silverlight sword, is it any good?

The Silverlight sword has about the same stats as a steel longsword.

So, since you are not fighting demons, you would do much better to switch to a Mith weapon.

I have worked at the goblin village and now have 20 combat lvl 20 defense and 25 str.

But what is your Attack level?

You need at least 20 to use Mith weapons.

I suggest that you mine and bank iron for cash.

IIRC, Iron is level 15 to mine.

If you did 5 complete full inventory trips of Iron then you could sell them

to players for about 14000 gold.

That should be more than enough to buy yourself full Mith.

You could use the Al Kharid or SE Varrock mines for iron.

You could find buyers on world#1 in Fally/Varrock

or in the Tip It marketplace forums.

Hope this helps.

... I only have about 2746 coin so I dont know if I could aford anything better.

You could do the Earnest the chicken quest for a quick 300 gold

and then do the Black knight fortress quest for 2500 gold.

(Although you may have to do some other quests first to get you quest total up)

I have looked all over the tip it site but I can't find an equipment guide.

Anyone got something to guide as to what gear for what lvl would be sufice?

Well, the icons in the RS game give you some info about items

but you can just use the Jagex knowledge base to compare items.

But here is a quick summary:

Rune at level 40

Addy at level 30

Mith at level 20

The normal outfit is legs, plate, kite shield, and full helm.

Use a emerald ammy for Def boost

Use a ruby ammy for Str boost

Use a diamond ammy for all around boost

And, very roughly:

Dagger fastest but weakest

Scimm fast and strong slash

Long sword ok speed and in strong in stab, slash

Baxe slower but strong

2H slowest and strongest.

So most players use the Scimmy or Longsword for fighting.

They have good speed and good attack ability.

I suggest that you get mining up to earn money for better gear

and get fishing/cooking up for healing food.

Hope this helps

I just had to close this thread with an update. I smithedmy way to 10K and found someone to sell me a full set of mith. I then raised some more moneyand got a scim. I filled up on some cooked anchovies and took my hammer, stake, and clove of garlic and saught out the vampire. I was still attack 20 str 25 and defense 20 but I was able to slay the vampire with out using a single bite of food. The quest then put me to attack 27.

Whoa! Anchovies are NOT for eating on their own - they heal ONE only - good thing you didn't need food, or you would have died pronto!

Anchovies are a good Pizza topping (level 55 cooking), bur if you are catching them (level 15 fishing), better to switch to a rod and bait at the same spots (sardine/herring), or go fly fishing on the river if you have level 20 fishing or better.

Just don't consider Anchovies as a usable food, even cooked meat is better.

Wow, I didn't know that about anchovies. Good thing I didn't need food after all. Well at least I have them for when my cooking gets high enough. I am currently cooking apple pies.

I just found out what I was calling my combat lvl was only my attack. I was not thinking right. My current combat lvl is 32 with attack being 29 str 29 and defense 20. Does my attack have to be 30 to wear adamant or combat lvl? That brings up another question. My mining says I can use an adamant pickaxe but does that matter if I can equip it or not?

well done for doing the quest. The level of armour that you can wear is dependent on your defense. Therefore, you will need to get defense to 30 to wear addy armour. Your attack level determines the level of weapons that you can wield. Yor combat level never has any bearing on what you can'cannot wear.

Even though you cannot currently wield addy, you can still use the pickaxe to mine with. The only difference is that it will stay in your inventory, so one less spot to put ore in.
