she is 10 years old and was diagnosed with diabetes. This morning her blood sugar level was over 700...it is dropping now..around 250..300. They hope to get it lower.

My 13 year old sister was diagnosed with type 1 in september, it is VERY easy to live with it once you get into the routine. Although a blood sugar level of 250 is impossible, let alone 700. My sister's was in the 20's when she went and she had to be hooked to intravenus. You must have read wrong. But the normal level is 4- 8. If you're wondering what diabetes is its when your pancreas quits making insulin or cannot use the insulin. Insulin is used to transport sugar to cells for energy. Since you dont have insulin that can't happen, so you burn fat for energy which make ketones - the by product when fat is burned, which raises blood sugar levels :wall: It can't kill her, and she will live a long and healthy life, and can still eat anything she wants in moderation. They are close to a cure\:D/ If you need any info on it feel free to ask me, i'm like a dictionary on diabetes :-w Also, which type does your sister have?

My uncle is missing both of his eyes, a kidney, both of his big toes, and has had 3 transufsions due to Diabetes. I dont know man.

Well if you make sure you do the stuf you should be doing (look after your feet, count your carbs, take needles daily if needed, monitor blood sugar) that shouldn't happen, all of my great aunts have it as well so i think im next :-w

Make sure to surround yourself with family members - it helps, really :D And it may sound trite... but be grateful that she's still going to live a wonderful, relatively normal, and probably long life... I have a friend who has type 1 diabetes AND is a vegan! Now *that* is difficult!

I'm sorry to hear that. My brother was hit by a car when he was 14 and five years ago and suffered some brain damage my other brother died in a car accident so, unfortunately, I know what it's like to have something bad happen to a sibling. You, your sister, and your family will be in my prayers. Good luck.

Wow. I am very sorry to hear about that. I hope she gets better... A friend of mine has diabetes. It can be very tough.

My brother is 10, he was diagnosed with Type-1 diabetes two years ago. Just before Christmas :?

 

 

 

Like Bloodstain said, with proper care it isn't hard to manage it. This is especially true now that insulin pumps are becoming more affordable and are being covered by many medical plans. We are looking to get a pump next year, this will mean no more needles for my brother, the pump will regulate his insulin levels for him. \

 

 

 

He still gets to eat whatever he wants, he just has to do it in moderation. I'm not sure of the exact details but my mother got a wealth of information from the local Diabetes clinic. I suggest you look and see if there is one in your area and help you mom out. Trust me when I tell you they will help so much.

 

 

 

Anyways, the first few months are going to be hardest because her blood sugar will fluxuate a lot. Rest assured, her blood sugar was not at 700. One of the counsellors at my brother's Diabetes Camp was up at 90 before he was diagnosed and that was extremely rare.
