Favorite Operating System

Whats everybodys Favorite OS anyways? I know many of you will say windows XP, but is that because you have never given any others a chance? Or do you just find Windows XP to have everything you like?

Personally I like windows XP Because it has some programs that other OS's cannot run.

But I am Actually installing Redhat/FEDORA (a Linux DISTRO) soon, which will be a good addition :)

I posted this here because it is more of an opnionated question, and in my past experiences this would just go off without any posts in the tech forum. Anyways, many of the forum users do not visit tech forums often unless they have a problem, So i posted here, to see what the average user belives.

If a mod strongly belives it should be moved, do so

Or Windows 3.11 - Solid as a rock that was.

Yeah, Windows 3.11 was good. I like most Linux variations if I want to do the really geeky stuff. Otherwise, I use a Mac.

I've never used anything besides 95, 98, 2000, XP SP1 and SP2. Am I missing out?

Yes

3.11 was funny, because it was like, in a window ( ). I skipped right over 95, and went to 98, which was pretty solid too. XP has been surprisingly nice to me aswell, maybe just because I don't do anything to intensive with computers, so it doesn't have much reason to bug out on me. I'm going to be getting Vista right around launch (never done that before  ), but there's about 5 launch games that I want, and I'll probably have to put up with bugs in order to play. But I don't care ;). I'll have my new comp by then.

My favorite? I'd say XP, simply because it's the one I used the most and never really pooped on me. Never tried Linux or anything, simply because I don't have a reason to.

Try other ones ^^

3.11 was perfect, except it didn't have double click :( other then that it was perfect.

Currently Ubuntu Linux, or any variation thereof(xubuntu, etc).

Windows isn't bad, but things like WGA(Windows Genuine Advantage) make me want to kill Microsoft sometimes.

Windows 2000 Advanced Server - has been running my network for roughly 4 years (maybe 5, I dunno) I have actually tried to kill it and it just wont die...

I like to fart silently but deadly in movie theaters

I wouldn't dare tell you what to do m'dear

with out a doubt mac, windows are rubbish compared to them, macs are much more powerful machines especialy with the new chip which lets you run windows based programmes. WIndows Vista basicaly copied mac! look at the mac dash board then look at the vista dash board thing!

5 says I could kill it :P

A while ago I would've suggested trying slackware, but it's kind of faded from the server OS aspect of things now :( Bit of a pity really.

after trying my friend's Powerbook...and then trying his new Macbook...i'd say OSX

as any new inexperienced computer user only knowing a windows interface...i always thought "Mac's suck" only b/c that is what i heard haha

then when i was like 13 i used a Mac for myself and was amazed  . ever since then i wanted a Mac but they were so expensive.

with the new release of the Macbook and now that i am older with money..i am looking forward to using OSX on the new Intel mac 8-)

FreeBSD..

It's a great operating system. The ports system has over 15,000 ports. They have thousands of binary packages. It's stable, fast, UFS2 is a kick-[wagon] filesystem. The kernel has a whole team as developers. The TCP stacks are probably better than any other OS.

Many reasons.. \'

vista for the win man, the security and extras that are going to be officially released will trully change computers forever. 2008/2007...it is going be relased..though many beta versions have been out they will not match the supiriouty of the true thing

I doubt it will change much. Security with windows will always be an issue. The operating system model hasn't change in years(especially for MS) and, so far, Vista isn't turning out to be anything more than Windows next bloated security nightmare.

But it comes with solitare....out of the box!

Currently Ubuntu Linux, or any variation thereof(xubuntu, etc).

Did ya know someone took Microsoft to court recently about WGA? Microsoft lost and had to shed out a few $k to the guy, it was classed as spyware as it monitored something else in your PC or something.

You can also disable WGA. Deleting a few files here and there, re-naming a few, and also deleting WGA from your Registry.

I have. O:)
