No I don't think it'd be necisary to have a "is this life mage dude an alien" thread.
I think it's neccessary. What if he has green antennas sticking out of his anus or something?

You know, it's pretty magical that life_mage12 has got one of those eggs in his sig. Aren't they there to surprise the owner? But what's so funny about them if you already know what's going to come out?

science is the art of finding the most boring explaination for any given phanomenom. i have seen and experienced things that nobody would believe if i told them (if it would be possible to tell them at all.) there is no magic, because people don't believe in it. people only see what they want to see. with the common strict sets of believes most people wouldn't reckognize magic if it would bite them into their face.

how goes that line in english? "there are more things between heaven and earth... horatio"

and what did jesus say? "if you bleieve strong enough, you can make the mountains jump into the ocean" or how this line goes in english

everything you truely believe in, becomes real.

"The Secret." 8-)

Of course, no one's going to be moving mountains any time soon, seeing as how it's deep set in our mind that we can't move that mountain at all. The fact that no one else has doesn't help either.

So, I believe that we must try as hard as we can to hold on to our childish imaginations, our immature belief that anything as possible, for that is the only way to tap into that true untapped power, known as "The Secret."

Wow, I'm starting to sound like I believe in magic  .

How does rocks colliding create something such as my digestive system I ask myself and that is where my minds starts to boggle and turn at all the possibilities this universe may hold for us and the secrets to be unrevealed oneday. The theories are endless, I do not beleive in "I cast a fireball on your head" magic but more the spiritual magic around us all.

I'm not a religious person, but I am a spiritual person. Whilst I think it's important that some things have to be explained scientifically, I think the wonder of the universe and everything sometimes shouldn't be broken down into numbers, and just appreciated for what it really is; an awesome, fearsome place of life, death, love, hope, fear and every other emotion and state of matter.

The sheer fact that we're talking about this proves to me that there is a magic and divine spark of wonder and awe in us all, no matter how hard we try and surpress it.

If there wasn't any magic in this world half the things that we have achieved and thought and dreamed and been inspired to do would never have even been considered.

This kind of thinking is what keeps that very tiny thought alive in the back of my mind that there my be a God somewhere. Although I'm pretty sure revealed religion isn't true, it just seems so hard to accept that there's no supernatural deity up there somewhere. It's hard to rationalize a supernatural deity with natural disasters and the sick things in nature like parasites and things like that, but as you said it's all mind boggling to think about.

I beleive in magic, how else was the earth created. God had magic :D.

But i do have one question for the creation of human race... Appariently Adam and Eve started everything right...? Well if they had one child, then in order to continue they must've made a child with one of their parents :-X . Or if they had 2 children, then in order to continue the human race they must've made a child with one of their brothers/sisters or parents :-X . If they had 3 children...and so on. You get the point...?

That theiry, in my opinion obviously doesn't explain the creation of human race. So i think, god...Used Magic (i hope you get what i mean) to start it off :P. Yes i'm catholic, but honestly what else do you think could've made the human race exactly...? Dinosaurs? I think not!.

And there's another theiry that we're all ansestors of apes or something? Well my uncle might be the son of one, i mean he's as hairy as hairy can get. But us normal people, meaning non hairy...how are we related to apes in some freakish way? Sure apes are cool, but i'd be ashamed if an ape was my father/mother.

These theiries in my opinion, completely Don't Make Sense! so i say Magic created it all! What other kind of explanations are there...?

I hope this is what you meant by magic... Other then the magician thing i have no comment about because the only two magicians i beleived in was Houdini and Chris Angel. Houdini just blowed my mind, too bad he died by getting punched in the gut with crushed intestines. Now Chris Angel, may not be magic and it might all be a hoxe, but he's dam good at it!

Ok those are pretty much all my comments on "Magic"

^^Wow this has got to be one of the longest posts i've made...except my entire suggestion thread, hehehe which died :( ^^

Comment on my post please :)

Of course it doesn't explain it, it's a fun mythalogical story that probably has little to do at all with what really happened. Same thing with the 7 days of creating, those 7 phases all probably took a range of time, one maybe being a couple thousand years, another possibly even a billion (and there was light: The creating of our star, the sun. The others can all be explained in one way or another through astronomy and evolution).

It's called evolution my friend.

I'm an atheist, ya, so sue me, but that just proves my post :P . Magic is just a label we put on things we don't understand, and may not understand for thousands of years.

And a few of those things that you're talking about, well, you'll get you'r answers to your questions in middle school, and if not then hopefully in HS :P .

Lol, and yes, they were great "magicians" :P .

I see nothing but good coming of a belief in magic or a higher power (or what you will). In fact, I pity those who truly believe that we are nothing more than a freak cosmic accident whose purpose ends with our individual existence. What a depressing basis for a life!

Honestly, even if magic and religion are just a bunch of nonsense, does it really hurt to believe? After all, according to the major critics of believers, nothing we do or say or think during life is important anyway. On those grounds then, it actually makes more sense for us to make our existence happier with 'delusions' of purpose and magic; if we're all just doomed to death anyway, it doesn't matter that our lives were a big lie.

This whole debate of magic/religion vs. science actually remind me of something I heard once: "I'd rather spend my life believing in a God that doesn't exist than to spend my life fighting against one that does, only to find myself on his doorstep after death."

Bottom line: If you want to believe that religion and magic are all a load of nonsense, and that the people who believe in them are delusional freaks, go right ahead and believe that. But even if you're right, I much prefer my delusions to your reality. Let me keep them; they aren't harming you.

It's so simple to be wise. Just think of something stupid to say and say the opposite.

Obviously that was written by a believer in God, as that makes no sense to an atheist. If there is no God that we believe in, what doorstep is there to even go to after death? That quote doesn't really help anything at all, it just makes the believers in God more pompous and arrogant about their beliefs, and it simply ticks off all the atheists, instead of "saving them" as a believer would say.

Other than that I agree with everything in your post.

I don't say it to 'save' anybody; I only say it as something to think about. An athiest has no more proof that there is nothing after life than I do that there is something. The underlying point of the quote is that if a believer is wrong about God and does simply cease to exist after death, there is absolutely no repercussion. You're dead, therefore nothing you believed in life matters at all. An athiest, on the other hand, will find his/herself in quite the interesting situation if there is indeed an existence beyond mortality.

Quite frankly, if it makes you happy to believe that humanity is the end-all, be-all of existence, power to you. I personally can't stand the thought that nothing better and more meaningful exists.

Another quote to chew on, this one from Voltaire, who was actually an athiest: "If there were no God, it would be necessary to create one." Apparently I'm not the only one who needs something larger than herself to believe in; for millenia belief in a higher power has kept mankind in check (largely; human nature still dictates in many situations, as anyone with even an inkling of history can tell) and preserved society.

It's so simple to be wise. Just think of something stupid to say and say the opposite.

I guess I understand what you're saying better, the quote still ticks me off though  .

Personally, I believe that the "God" people refer to is actually the universe itself, us being included, and when we die we simply 'rejoin' our soils with the universe. Don't know if it feels good, don't know if it feels bad, don't know if it doesn't feel like anything at all, but that's what I believe. Gota have some hope, even as an athiest, right? :P

[All responses to this post please send to my PM box. We don't need to completely take over this thread with yet another God discussion, but if you think magic pertains to God then by all means say so, but don't respond to this post on this thread. Btw, where did that other thousand page "God thread" go? It dissappear during my one month ban or something?]

I am a Biology major so not nessesarily suposed to be a believer in such things, but I do take note in how everything seemingly works together without any real reason. There is something more to life then the physical, and I don't think we will ever know what that something is.
