Death_By_Pod
"Clarke's three laws   1. When a distinguished but elderly scientist states that something is possible, he is almost certainly right. When he states that something is impossible, he is very probably wrong.   2. The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible.   3. Mercifull
I think my life would be easier if i genuinely did belive in God, Magic, Ghosts etc, but alas not. Common sense and evidence prevails and i just dont belive it. Its why I am a member of the JREF to make sure that people arnt taken in by these woo woo's that claim it all as real. Ive seen people like Criss Angel and James Randi do some amazing stuff that rivals what the bible says Jesus did but its not real. there is always a trick behind it. ____
Can't say I do, not in todays society anyways.     However, I think at one point in time, some magical aspects may actually have existed. Myth is generally based on fact. To what degree varies, but on that note, and the quote earlier about 'advanced technology being magic' healing, especially complex healing - might be the main kicker of ancient healing.   Most, in myth, who were healers were considered to be sacred or a wizard / witch / etc. Priests and such generally held this title a lot.   Pinch of salt really. Kashi
Belief in things like "Magic" or "God" or is for the weak. It's for people who can't get through life on their own strength, and so they rely on their "God" to guide them. It's for people who can't cope with the idea that after you die you don't go to a better place, you go in the ground.   Maybe it works for some people, but in my opinion "Morals" are a liability. My greatest ambition is to kill every member of the human race. However I am a realist and therefore know that I probably wont be able to.
Bubsa
D'oh, I think people are taking my definition of magic too much inot magic tricks and hokus pokus. I don't mean that. What I mean is...well...what I'm relating to is Big Fish. Watch Big Fish! That's the magic I mean. Not so much the giant or the siamese twins being magic, but the magic of the story and how it actually comes true to life (in the film).  This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you. frogspoons
no such thing as magic in the "abra kadabra" sense.   hehe reminds me of this:      but i still think there could be a god or a supernatural force of some sort. Bubsa
Just thought I'd add this relevant tidbit from the Fate vs Chaos thread:   I also don't try to explain the meaning of life and stuff with theories. logic-is-overrated
I believe in a purely naturalistic world. There are times where something happens that makes me wonder whether or not there is a supernatual deity somehow "guiding" the universe and taking care of me since, in my opinion, I'm a good person, but I don't ever seriously consider that. This is the way the world ends. Look at this [bleep]ing shit we're in man. Not with a bang, but with a whimper. And with a whimper, I'm splitting, Jack. Instead of arrogantly thinking we have the ability to live a good life on our own, we humbly accept the fact that we suck and need someone higher to lead us.   If Christianity is for the weak, then non-Christianity is for the arrogant, I guess, using your terminology.     D'oh, I think people are taking my definition of magic too much inot magic tricks and hokus pokus. Ragen
I too, am hopelessly romantic. I love to see the beauty of the world and wonder how it came to be that way. I know that mountains form over millions of years because of pletonic (whatever) plates moving under the earth, but it doesn't make them any less beautiful or awesome. I know that I came from a sperm and an egg, but I'll never truelly understand the beauty and magic of how that tiny cell turned into what I am today. Or an acorn turning into a humungous oak tree. Thats real magic. The fabric of this universe is based on something coming from nothing. Thats magic too. My emotions, my senses, they let me see beautiful things and I have no idea how they really work. I don't think that anyone does. If you look hard enough and think about it, there is magic in everyday life. We just don't notice it or we take it for granted. Thanks Venomai for this super sig and Kwimbob for the awesome avatar! Well, to me it is anyway. A month ago I was standing in the front lines of a Sigur RÃÆÃâÃâós gig, it was 1 a.m., I had been looking forward to it the entire day, or rather many weeks, so my expectations were high. But I was blown away, I've been to many concerts, probably around 50, if not more, but this one was.. almost spiritual. It was sooo great, as if I was on drugs, but I didn't even have more than 3 beers. I got carried away on the lovely Icelandic tunes and woke up the next morning.
