Chris 2 8's tips and tricks for dragon hunting

Featured Replies

As i have killed many dragons for money, slayer and exp i thought id share the methods i use, and the tips and tricks i know for hunting dragons. This is a small guide on hunting green, blue, red and black dragons. I will post pics of the best spots i use to hunt for each of the dragons and some tips on what to take and how to kill them.

Ill do red dragons first as im hunting them as im typing this, also i need to get pics for the other dragons.

Red dragons-

These are good dragons to kill for money as the hides they drop sell for around 4k each, also they drop clues quite often. I strongly recommend that you range these rather than melee as theyre defence is very high, also a good ranged lvl of 70+ is needed. The best place to kill these would be red dragon isle as they are hard to trap in brimhaven because of the lack of safespots and wild dogs, also there are barely any pkers at red dragon isle. Get to red dragon isle via the ardougne lever.

What to take: Id adivse taking the equipment shown in the pic, anti dragon shield just incase, knife for cutting web, and maybe some rune arrows should any pk oppurtunities arise :) If you have one use a crystal bow but im not sure about whether you would keep it should u be pked. Also if you dont like making trips back and forth bury the bones and keep the hides. I do not suggest to try any other method of killing red dragons than this but if you really dont like going into the wildy trap red dragons using the rocks in brimhaven dungeon. If you really want to melee these take monkfish or better, or take prayer pots.

Alternative route is to take a hatchet with you and use the canoe station at edgeville. Then head into 35 wildy with canoe.

It's a north-eastish walk from there; saves getting past the mage bank pk'ers. Its only one way though, because the canoe will sink behind you when you get at your destination. So have a drag ammy with you, to tele out by running south to lvl 30 wildy when your inventory is full. Also you could walk to 20 wildy and use the ancient edgeville tele spell.

Here is a pic of the safespot i use and my equipment. Also there is a pic of the suggested route.

Green dragons-

Green dragons i think are the fastest dragon to make money from, i can do upto 4 or 5 runs an hour with each run being worth 49k. A drawback is that they are only found in the wildy, however they are well worth the risk.

My favourite place to kill them is in the far east wilderness at lvls 19-24, walk up from varock and take the path shown on the map below. It si best to melee these but you can range them from behind the rocks.

Depending on your stats there is a wide range of equipment you should take. If your range is 60 or below there is little point in wearing d hides to green dragons or attempting to range them. Also depending on how confident you are against pkers you should take 3-5 semi valuable items.

At lvls 60-80 you should wear armour with good defence like rune and as a weapon have d long, d scimmy or whip depending on whether you have the requirements needed.

At lvls 80+ you should wear a mixture of d hides and armour to avoid been pked and ideally have a d scimmy or whip(also you can apply this to lvls 60-80 depending on your ranged lvl), the combination is up to you, also you can take a mage bow and rune arrows to potentially kill any pkers that mage. I suggest collecting 12 hides and bones for the most efficient way to make money and at lvls 85+ take around 10-15 lobbs. After a few runs youll know how many lobbs to take.

If you have a whip beware of pkers that drop things like 4 noted d scimmy's or mystic tops, youll keep them over your whip if you die. Thats how i lost my first whip.

Here are pics of what i take to green dragons and a map showing the suggested route.

Ahh that just ruined all my work :(

I did the map and everything for you, but yours is probably better anyways, look forward to seeing more tips! :)

Good tip  i was thinking of putting that in. You could also use the edgeville teleport spell (anceints).

Never even thought about Killing Red Dragons, anything in the wilderness (except the Agility Course and the cool Teleporters there) scare me enough to prevent me from ever going there.

I just might go and kill a red dragon or two if my crafting level ever reaches the point where I can make red dragonhide stuff. But nonetheless what about the Crystal Bow? Wouldn't that save you from purchasing loads of arrows and running the risk of losing them? You could always drop a couple things to be sure your crystal bow got back if you were dieing. But hey, I'm definetly not an expert.

Yea using a crystal bow would work good i just forgot about it :P

From what i heard, cystal bow protects over almost anything, but i dont know for a fact.
