So what do you guys think? I believe Verlander should be Rookie of the Year, I'm cheering for Paps, but, he's blown a lot of saves lately without Jason Varitek :cry: so, unless Verlander screws up, I think he's got AL Rookie of the Year.

Mauer...He's unbelievable. But out of Papelbon and Verlander, I'd say Papelbon. I'm going to use ratios, to make it fairer for Papelbon.

Verlander, definitely. I'm a Tigers fan (actually going to today's game in a few hours), so there's my bias. :P

Lucky Adam...It's a lot easier to get tickets to a Tiger's game than to a Red Sox game...Although the Tigers are much better this year. So what we have here are 2 Red Sox fans and a Tiger fan...

He's the staff ace on the best pitching staff in the MAJOR LEAGUE. It's totally Verlanders to lose. Papelbon has blown a few too many saves to give him major contention anymore. He seems hittable and normal. Verlander's stats are way better and he's a rookie and a STAFF ACE at that.

You know, I feel so bad for Paps after last night, he pitched unbelievable and really saved the Sox, like coming in with bases loaded 0 outs, up by 2 with Giambi up, and only giving up 1 run that inning, and then again in the 9th, he gave up a lead-off double to Melky Cabrera who got to 3rd on a passed ball with 0 outs, battled back to get 2 K's and gave up a bloop single to "I Exagerate My Great Plays" Jeter. Kinda sucks, and I'm moving onto the Patriots :(

 

 

 

And now we are about to get swept in a 5 game series versus the Yankees! :x

 

 

 

I'll be getting a mouthful from my friends at school. I live in Connecticut, so it's split right in half between RedSox-Yankees fans.

 

 

 

BTW, Mauer isn't a rookie, but he's definitly going to win the Batting Title.

Oh, Mauer isn't a rookie? I read somewhere that he was, must have been a mistake...Unless you live south of Hartford, there won't be that many Yankee fans. David Wells has been amazing today...Only 1 run! Yesterday's game was...PATHETIC. It was the pitch in the dirt that did it, since it let Cabrera move to third, then he would score on Jeter's hit. But if he was on second when Jeter got his single, he wouldn't have scored, and Abreu probably would have gotten out. It's interesting how much a pitch in the dirt could do.

It looks like you've forgotten...Abreu struck out in the 9th inning yesterday, that's what I'm talking about. If Cabrera was on 2nd when Jeter got his bloop, it would have been 1st and 3rd. And Abreu would've struck out...and the Red Sox would have won. I know what you mean about the WS victory getting more Red Sox fans...Almost all the girls where I live are "fans", while they're really pretending to be fans to be more popular. They weren't like that before the WS victory, now they are. I'm guessing if the Yankees win a World Series, they'll return to what they were like before the WS victory. And I live near Boston, about 20 minutes away from Fenway. So it's not just Connecticut.

 

 

 

Oh, and BTW, my favorite player is on the Yankees... :D Chien-Ming Wang, the amazing Taiwanese player. Beckett for Wang would be a nice deal...

You Red Socks fans are crazy. I was in Florida a few weeks ago and there were as many Red Socks fans there as Rays fans. Cheeringwise during the game you couldn't even tell whose stadium it was (if it weren't for those annoying cowbells Rays fans would constantly hit). "MORE COWBELL!" ugh.

Yeah, i heard those cowbells, was it cowbells night or something? And Mr. Nasty??? I hate that guy. Throughout the game.

You mean the mascot that stepped on a stuffed Wally? He's evil...I've been to 2 Sox games in my life, I got tickets for my birthday in 2004, and I went to one in Tampa last year. Tropicana Field is nicknamed "The Fenway of the South", since there are so many more Red Sox fans that go to Sox-Rays games there than Devil Rays fans.

IMO, if it wasn't for him being hurt, Francisco Liriano would be up there too but hes out of it for now. Papelbon has not been as stellar as he was in the beginning. I think its gonna go to Verlander, because he is the arguably the best starter on the best team in baseball. What about NL Rookie of the Year? I like Dan Uggla on that one, hes the one that sticks out in my mind. Or Johnson of the Marlins, he is having a pretty good year.

 

 

 

My breakdown of the award winners this year:

 

 

 

Al Cy Young: Johan Santana,Twins. Has 1 less win and 2 more lossed than Halladay, but has a slightly lower ERA and almost 90 more K's.

 

Runner Up: Roy Halladay

 

 

 

NL Cy Young: Brandon Webb, DBacks. 2nd Lowest ERA, tied for most wins, a solid all around pitcher.

 

Runner Up: No clear runner up, but Ill say Carlos Zambrano.

 

 

 

AL MVP: David Ortiz, Red Sox. Yep thats right Big Papi, even though he is a DH he is one of if not the best player in baseball. Leads league in HR, and RBIs. It goes to Ortiz, not Jeter.

 

Runner Up: Derek Jeter

 

 

 

NL MVP: This is a tough one, a few in the mix. Soriano, Pujols, Howard and my man Beltran who hit a 2 run walkoff tonight for my team the Mets. If Pujols wasn't injured for those few weeks in June, he would have run away with this, but I'm leaning towards Pujols.

 

Runner Up: Not exactly sure.

 

 

 

And wow, I am relieved to hear that Tom Glavine doesn't need surgery on his pitching shoulder. So he will be back in 7-10 days. And hopefully when Pedro comes back he will come and stay. W00t, just read the Mets got Shawn Green. As you can see im a Mets fan.

Oh come on guys, Mauer? MVP? Ortiz is going to get 55+ Home Runs. If A-Rod had those numbers, he'd get MVP, and he'd have more errors than Ortiz would have if he played defense.

 

 

 

And Home Run Derby means squat, although I still think Howard deserves MVP. MVP is the question, who is the best player. And I think it is Howard. But make your choice.

Verlander I think its him thats throwing 100? As a rookie thats awesome :D

Mauer might win the batting title, Ortiz has no shot in hell at winning the MVP. It's gotta be Derek Jeter, he's having one of his best years of his career and HE PLAYS DEFENSE! cmon people no DH will ever win MVP. EVER. He's not on the field simple as that.

NL MVP - Howard - Meh you can go so many ways with this, but theres only one winner and it's gotta be Howard. If the Phil's make the playoffs it'll be Howard for sure until then, he just seems like the fit

 

 

 

AL Cy Young - Verlander - Roy Halladay's pitching great, but he's not the staff ace on the best pitching rotation in the bigs. Verlanders to lose.

 

 

 

NL Cy Young - Webb - Webby got off to a great start winning his first 6 or so. Not too sure on that. Great sinkerball, best in the bigs, gets decent run support. He's my pick.

 

 

 

AL RotY - Verlander - Staff ace on the best staff in the bigs. 17+ Wins is a lock for RotY (You can make arguments for Liriano and Papelbon, but Lirianos hurt and Paps is shaky since Varitek is gone)

 

 

 

NL RotY - ???? - The most exhilierating race i think. There are SO many options and SO many choices, anyone from the Marlins seems to be a fit here but you can go so many ways.

OK, the reason I said Mauer is because to me, batting average is the most important stat...But that's just me. But the last few MVPs have all been slugggers...So, I guess Morneau could win it. Ortiz and Hafner both have a lot of HRs and RBI, but they're both DHs. The only guy in the top 5 HR that's not a DH is Dye, so hes also in the competetion. It's probably not going to be Jeter, he only has a few homers, less than Johnny Damon which is quite strange IMO. I guess Manny could also be in it...

 

 

 

NY ROY: Probably not a pitcher, none of them are that good. I haven't paid a lot of attention to the NL, so I don't know who's a rookie...
