Singer-songwriters

Yoho mateys!

Now I know all wannabe singer-songwriters want to be as creative as Bob Dylan, as popular as the Beatles, as funky as the Peppers and as handsome as me.

But unfortunately, that's impossible. So if you were banned from civilised world and you were allowed the albums of only one singer-songwriter, who would it be?

And if a moose on acid would chase you and it would allow you only one CD, which one would it be? Dire choices, indeed, but who knows what might happen eh?

My personal favourite album would be

Dylan's Best of CD. I wouldn't tell the crazy moose it's a double CD of course.

Close call. It's a race between:

And:

But I think Cohen just pips it. His songs and melodies are just so enigmatic and, where Dylan fails, his vocals are wonderful. Paul Simon is equally as brilliant, but he loses out due to his affiliation with that permy haired muppet called Garfunkel.

Hmm, Graceland is amazing. One of my favorites. If I had to choose, I'd go for a Dylan one and I'd probably go for his BiographCD. It's a greatest hits CD, but it has got a lot of great live preformances and previously unreleased songs. I don't think Dylan fails on the vocals at all. In my opinion it makes the music even more special.

Yeah, I don't get why you don' like Dylan's voice Bubs, it's not smooth or anything, but I like singer-songwriters a la Bob Dylan to be raw. Kurt Cobain's voice wasn't perfect either, yet he's one of the singers that move me most, not just because of the lyrics.

It just doesn't do anything for me. I know he's not exactly trying to be harmonious, but neither does Cohen, and yet his vocals appeal to me.

Wauw, an unbeliever :D

I've yet to discover a song from Bob that doesn't appeal to me.

Probably this one

Jeff Buckley's vocals are so raw and emotive, it sends shivers down my spine. His lyrics, whilst not all his own, are so powerfully moving, so expressive, and cut so close to the bone for me.

The album, mostly sad, has enough contrast and diversity to keep me going forever. He died too young.

Hmm, I'm going to change. I'll trade the Dylan one for Sufjan Stevens' Illinoise. Man, I just played it again, alone on my room, nobody disturbing. This album can take the greatest Atheist straight into paradise.

Yeah, I have bought all 4 Sufjan albums recently (or are there any others apart from Seven Swans, Illinois, Michican and the Avalanche?). Have you bought his 'the Avalanche' yet? It's filled with glorious B-sides of Illinois.

I would have to say my favorite next to Dylan is Conor Oberst...

I know many people consider his lyrics to be "emo" (which I don't know why) and his voice to be whiny, but both his lyrics and voice appeal to me a lot.

Just a quick link if you've never heard any Bright Eyes before.

As for the album I'd pick, it would either be I'm wide awake It's morning, or Digital Ash in a Digital Urn.

Dallas Green is my favourite singer/songwriter. His solo project is called "City and Colour" He has an absolutely amazing voice, and he is also sings in my favourite band, Alexisonfire.

If I had to pick just 1 cd it would probably be something by Alexisonfire.

I have exactely 5 albums of Bright Eyes. Also the one of his side project Desaparecidos. So if any emo-bashers want to flame us; we'll handle em ;)

You've got ENJOY YOUR RABIT as well, but it's a bit strange. I don't like it that much. I still need to buy the other ones, Illinoise was the first one I bought a couple of days ago.
