"The lotto in California works like this: You buy one ticket and it is good for one drawing. On the ticket, you pick six numbers from 1 to 49. You win teh jackpot if you correctly pick all six winning numbers. The odds of this happening are 1 in 13,983,816. According to statistician Mike Orkin, this means that if you bought fifty tickets a week, every week, you could expect to win the jackpot once in 5,000 years. If the same amount of money that was spent on lotto tickets were spent on gasoline, it would buy enough gasoline for an economy car to make 730 round trips to the moon and back. Then, suppose there are 200 such stadiums. Select one person at random from tehse 200 stadiums. Your chance of being selected is the same as your chance of winning the lotto jackpot."

wow :ohnoes: im never going to win the lotto when im 18 <.<

Thank god I live in Minnesota, where there are tons of lotterys, and some have really good odds.

I used to have a link to my school's project to provide fresh water to a Kenyan Village, but the sig police changed the link to say something, which, if followed, leads to an "ahem" adult website. Let me ask you. Which do you think is worse?

Do you have to be a statistician these days to calculate that 13,983,816 divided by 5,000 years, so 260,000 weeks is 50 tickets a week?

Anyway, of course it's a friggin rip-off. Of course they make a lot more money than they give away.

I can't believe people would buy a ticket other than for the suspense. Thinking you might win is not thinking at all. :|

You can get a thing that gives you 20 games and the computer chooses the numbers for you. If they had a 20 one, I'd assume that they'd also have highner numbered game tickets aswell.

I buy one whenever it gets over a hundred million. Might as well.

When that happens, the loot is perhaps 5 times as big, but there are at least 10 times more tickets sold.

It would be smarter to buy a ticket whenever there's not much at stake.

Who buys 50 tickets a week?

Oh trust me, people do. I work in a supermarket on the lottery counter and you get regulars who buy ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã30 of lottery per week.

Just think that if you didnt spend that money and saved for like a year you would get the same amount of money as matching a moderate amount of numbers, and you could guarantee winning every year.

I just buy a scratchers once in a while, if I see the machine and I have a dollar to blow. The odds on the lotto are too low. :?

Yeah, scratchers are what my parents buy alot too. Every now and then you'll win a few dollars. We've one as high as $50 once.

The record would be my grandfather who one $4000 on a dollar slot machine in Las Vegas. \' \' Of course that's gambling not lotto, but basically they're related.

Yeah, but I figure if I'm gonna waste money on something that has virtually no chance of being a good investment, I'm gonna go all the way.

This is the way the world ends. Look at this [bleep]ing shit we're in man. Not with a bang, but with a whimper. And with a whimper, I'm splitting, Jack.

Hehe, yeah, if you're in for the thrill, at least the money is well-spent. It's like playing the slots for a minute. It's fun, till you realise you've been ripped off ;)

Back by popular demand!

And I guess I just wanted to tell you, as the light starts to fade, that you aree the reason, that I am not afraid, and I guess I just wanted to mention, as the heavens will fall, that we will be together soon if we will be anything at all.
