I was logging into Runescape today when I accidentaly hit the Caps Lock key. That's when it hit me... Why not make usernames case sensitive like passwords? Your actual name wouldn't look like the way you type it into the log in screen. It would look like it always did.

 

 

 

How it would prevent Hackers:

 

 

 

In Runescape, you can't type in random caps. That would prevent people from telling their login username. Even if the hacker knew the password, he would still have to figure out how the login username is spelled out.

 

 

 

 

 

Jagex could set up a system that randomely capitalizes letters in your username when you register. You would of course be told the Login Username. Why should they set up such a system? Not many people will want to go through the trouble of randomely capitalizing letters, just so that they can go through the same hassle everytime they log in.

 

 

 

Yes, it would be a hassle to type in the correct letters in the correct casings. But isn't it worth it if it prevents hackers from hacking into your account?

Yes, actually they are hackers... They hack into peoples accounts, hence the name "hackers".

But if they still had a keylogger, they could figure it out.

The use of case sensitive username logins would prevent hacks that occur in Runescape. Let's say someone is offering free membership. He would of course, ask for the pass and login username from the victim. The victim would give him the pass, but couldn't give the correct login username. I understand that there are several ways around this. There always will be. This is just one of those small updates that could prevent some hacks in Runescape. No, it will not prevent them all. Nothing can. But this will perhaps save a few people from being manipulated into giving a hacker their pass and login username.

I don't think so, it's only the player's responsibility to keep his account safe. I seriously can't see how people can get "hacked", I've played for

 

3.5 years and never ever been keylogged/hacked.

the number of people who are hacked from someone guessing is 10 to none. ALl of it is really keyloggers, which can tell if you press down the caps lock key and when you don't.

They don't "hack" anything. Hacking by definition would require them to force their way inot the Jagex database and steal the account; then again why steal a worthless account when they could just get zezima? Hacking has been non-existant since rs1. Anyone who loses their account now has been keylogged, there is literally almost no other way to get a password.

Regardless of weather password stealers are "hackers," this is an interesting idea, but I dont think it would work. If you already know theyre user name and password, and you really want the account, you could just spend some time playing with the caps lock to figure out what order is. Some names are only a few letters long, others contain numers (and they shouldnt be turned into symbols: differnt countrys have different symbols, that would confuse everyone) and a keylogger would bypass this imediatly. Interesting consept though.

insted of making jagex keep your account safe for you, use common sense, dont tell your password to anyone and buy a virus scanner. There you go your account is now "hackproof".
