Too much of a safety issue. There's young kids who'd connect, and it's extremely hard to moderate what people say. I'm not shutting you down or anything - I'm just repeating the reason I've heard before.

(Btw, want to think about renaming that acronym? We have tip it times but nobody refers to it by its letters. :P )

Easy*, just make channels for age groups. If you hear a squeek, bam. kicked from channel.

R.I.P. Mediasoldier.

but not everyone goes to the right appropriate age group, mind the spelling. And YES you would like to change your title :)

maybe to TT? tipit teamspeak? :-w

back to rs, i guess. it's been 4 months.

RSN:P H Osho <- gonna start on him soon, fresh.

ooh sorry, didn't realize you changed your title, musta dunnit while I was posting. sorry.

Your acting like a concerned mother whos sheltering their kids. Its not like they havent heard it before. They see it in runescape, and the hear it on tv. Your not going to avoid it, and plus your on the internet where you can't controll other peoples actions. So deal with it

You really shouldn't be nasty to a mod like that. Even I try to maintain respect in my posts... :shame:

Now, as for the TeamSpeak issue, I suggest the name:

"Tip.It Team Area Network System" ("TITANS")

...because of how large and even more powerful Tip.It would become through this. I like the TeamSpeak idea if-and-only-if it can be properly moderated, even if only in a "shoot-on-sight" format. Good Idea Launch!!!

Could someone enlighten me as to what teamspeak actually is? Is it not just like chat?

TeamSpeak is a voice chat application similar to Ventrilo or Skype. Users join a server in which there are "Rooms" or "Channels". Users can join the channels and use voice activation (when they speak the mic is automatically enabled) or a hotkey to talk. It's useful for things such as clans etc. I have a dedicated server myself and a licence to host Teamspeak servers for commercial use, but I've thought it best not to attempt anything like this. Although there can be server administrators, it's basically impossible to stop someone coming in and shouting profanities before they're kicked. Not only that, can you imaging trying to get a word in through a channel with ~200 people when everyone is trying to talk and everyone has a few seconds lag.

Not only that, its impossible to ban certain users, because IP addresses can be spoofed, and certain ISPs IP addresses change each time they logon. TeamSpeak doesn't have a ban system like IRC, where you can ban an ident.

If Tip.it gave it the go ahead, I'd host one for a month as a test for them, but I doubt it will happen.

Because it's present in the rest of society doesn't mean TIF has to follow suit and allow such profanity here. Also, Runescape does their part to try to moderate what's said. You might not be able to control other people's actions, but you can eliminate the problem by not providing a device so laden with opportunity to mar Tip.it's image as a clean, acceptably moderated place for players of all ages to interact.

That's right, your just being obnoxious. It is an issue and althought I can see where your coming from, he does have a point. No need to be aggresive about it

Oh, I'm completely against censorship when possible, key word. But when people abuse a freedom things should be censored, depending on the case. I personally don't care, and I wouldn't be against it. The issue pertains to this site. And the fact is that there's a liability. The tip it name has a professional G-rated standard it holds to. If some kid was browsing the site, clicked the team speak room, and suddenly all kinds of swearing started coming out the speakers, we don't have a good situation. It's not an issue whether kids should or shouldn't hear those kinds of words. It's just that tip it has a standard it adheres to, and that's the only point I was making. Don't be so quick to dart to the offensive, really.

maybe we could password protect the server, give to to mature, trustable people, give their IP access to the server, and take off the password. Then nobody but the chosen people could join.

Wrong. Easy scripting, if it was ran off someones server independently.

See, if you ran it on a shared server, it would allow access to people on the other servers hosted.

PMG DISS@!@!!@!!! LOLZ. Sthefu. Go back to fletching.

If your so worried about keeping tip it "g-rated" then get away from teamspeak. Even the 12 yearolds that browse this site will venture on there and when they die and loose their rune large, they will throw a fit and cuss up a storm. Sucks if your really sheltered that much.

Did you even read what I just said? I said in general I am against censorship. I don't have any problem with teamspeak - I'm only stating that such a means of communication can't work for a site like this. I'm not going to repeat any more of what I already said, so reread it. And next time you try to make an argument, how about you argue my points.

I never said I'm personally worried about keeping this site G-rated. I'm just telling you that's how things are run here, and explaining why it wouldn't happen. Whether or not 12 year olds go to other teamspeak rooms doesn't matter. You're getting off the point. And no - completely irrelevant, but I'm not sheltered. You're mistaking common sense with naivety.

Media, I do like the idea of having only select users be in it. The only thing is that if we really were that select, and didn't have that many members, the room might be dead-ish most of the time. But that could work.

I'm 12, kids our age know right from wrong. (i.e. they know what a stalker is) Sure, TS may have some faults, but I really like it when I use it. Censorship on TS? No. Just, no. I think it'd be a great idea, but younger kids that join it are taking a risk.

You can MAKE TS servers, quite easy actually? Skype anyone?

Thanks for your opinions guys, its kind of funny that someone that is 12 stays on topic much better than anyone I've heard from today. Of course, its not age, its intelligence. thanks man :D .

I'll be buying the server hopefully tomorrow, now can I hear if it should be 50, 100, or 200 slotted?
