Law Posted October 15, 2006 Share Posted October 15, 2006 For those of you who aren't aware, there used to be another version of Runescape. It is now often refered to as "Runescape Classic." Runescape Classic only has three servers now and only about 300 players. Yup, the game gets pretty boring when there aren't that many people around. Jagex is pretty much just letting the game die off until there are no more people to play. When that time comes then the game will be completely lost. I know that I for one would love it if I could play this game again. Yes, I would probably only play it about once every two weeks but I still would like to play it once in a while. So why is Jagex letting it die off when they could use this deserted game to their advantage? I think that Jagex could use the game as a quest. There could be a group of researchers that have just dug up an ancient portal that leads to the Runescape Classic realm. This realm could be like just another dungeon, like Zanaris. One of the researchers could go into the portal and now the rest of the researchers are to scared to go in after him, so it is up to you to help them out. Once you enter the portal you will be in Runescape Classic. Then you can start asking the inhabitants of the Runescape Classic Realm if they have seen the explorer anywhere. Eventually, you find the explorer and save him from some type of beast or something and then safely return him to the exit portal which will take you both back to the World of Runescape. Upon completing the quest you will be rewarded with an amount of gold and a number of quest points as well as access to the "Runescape Classic Realm." -------------------------------- F.A.Q.'s (sort of :3> ) How will this work? The current Runescape servers will all contain a portal that leads to the "Runescape Classic Realm." This portal will be located at the site the researchers dug it up. In other words, wherever Jagex chooses. Will this update be available in free-to-play? Hopefully. As I have stated the quest can be wherever Jagex chooses so it basically just depends on what Jagex wants. Will I be able to keep my skills and items when I go into this "Runescape Classic Realm"? This is an excellent idea but again thats up to Jagex. It would probably be easier to make it so everyone starts off at level three like they had just come off of Tutorial Island because Runescape Classic and Runescape 2 are totally different games. Runescape 2 contains both skills and items that Runescape Classic doesn't. The combat system is also different. For example, magic will give you combat levels even if you are "melee based." I'm leaving this up for debate and disscussion so if you want to suggest a good way that skills and items can be kept then I would be greatful. Will the Runescape Classic Realm use the Runescape Classic combat system? Of course! And even jagex must put alot of effort in putting all the 2d and 3d graphics into the rs2 client and what not. 2nd post: Jagex didnt ever think to connect the 2 worlds and also if its 2 diffrent games, they cant dupe if its diffrent severs. My post: If jagex ever rethinks this over and does it, we can have a rs (1+2=3 :P) :thumbsup: But it might take about 1-3 years to do this because of coding and graphic fusion and what-not. -The best idea ever made. Well, they could just make new RSC-style graphics with the current engine; it'd still be a massive undertaking, for sure, but not necessarily that complicated. As for the concerns about duping, it'd be ridiculously easy to set up the RSC realm to not allow anything but stats to come over from RS2. Which would be something of a drag to get your stuff back, but if your skills are good, it'd be easy. The only problem I see with that, though, would be how to balance the points when going back to RS2. One of the other big reasons Jagex separated the two was because there were some things in RSC that were easier to level than in RS2, and vice versa; they didn't want people abusing the system by training on both versions to get mad EXP. If they can get all the kinks worked out, I'd love that to be added; I miss RSC so much sometimes. Part of the Star Traks network. (^^Clicky!) Ok now I do It's a good idea but it needs alot more thought to be put into it because you cant just make some quest that links you to another game altogether. There could be some sort of portal that if you enter it downgrades the graphics and loads the rsc map but the interface could be generaly the same as changing your skills every time you change versions would take alot of thought from each server which could create lagg and also it means that people might go into the rsc area and the rs2 verson might die off that little bit that it becomes less fun for some people. Finally I think the reason rsc is still accessible to some is that Jagex wanted to keep it for people who had put effort into it and diddent want to just through that away its like people who have kept old and classic games consoles like nintendo 64 because they enjot them and it reminds them of good times.
