I've seen some..er.."smiley" animations around the forums, and I was really wanting to do them, but I have no $500 or so to spend on Adobe flash (or however much it costs to get it). So, I was wondering if anyone can suggest some good animation programs that I could use. Anything would be helpful here.

I found this a couple of while ago.

But if you just want a quick answer:

What programs are the best for making emoticons?

Any program that can make a gif animation will work fine. Programs like MX fireworks, jasc animation shop, and other ones of that type are crowd favourites. Personally, I'd stick to a program designed specifically for .gifs, (ruling out ones like Fireworks) MY favorite is Ulead Gif Animator 5.

You can even try GIMP since its free.

Bit confusing though, what with all the layer piles you have to deal with for animations... #-o

The Enrichment Center reminds you that the weighted companion cube will never threaten to stab you and, in fact, cannot speak.

In the event that the weighted companion cube does speak, the Enrichment Center urges you to disregard its advice.

I have loads of smileys, but I don't make them. If you are using Firefox, just get the Smiley Xtra 4 extension.

Else, I don't know any free animation programs, I always use ImageReady. :')

And DON'T name Gimp... It's a little too powerful for pixelling and the animtaion stuff in it is pretty complicated to work on ( never tried ).

For pixelling, try Grahpics Gale (http://www.google.com -> search graphics gale). Animation...there's some trial software from Adobe you might like :? I'm not sure if it will be compatable with Linux, though. I have windows \' .

Thanks for the suggestions, I'm going to try out the trial for Fireworks 8 from adobe. I'll also try MSGif Animator since, of course, it's free (btw, thanks megadedhead for adding me to your signature credit list). I actually got ImageReady from a trial of PSCS2 for free once..Don't know if it was a mistake, though (let's hope it wasn't so I can get it back ::' ). Also, if Ulead Gif Animator 5 is free, then I'll also try that (or if I can even get a trial of it).

The thing I was mainly wanting to do (to clear up some stuff) was create some "smiley animations" that I've seen around Tip.It lately. Maybe even my own smileys, too  . Thanks for all the help and keep suggesting stuff if you feel you need to :D .

if you gonna use fireworks for animation be sure to export as an animated gif (also save as a layered .png) so that you can upload it and it stays animated otherwise you will be uploading only one frame if you dont export as animated gif
