Pixelers advice please

Hey you pixelers out there, i need help! O:)

What do you use for your basic linework?

do you use a graphics pad (so you can draw yourself) or the old fashioned mouse?

Because i see some pixels' linework is very scruffy and you cant really do that with a mouse (yea, ive tried) so im just wondering what you use.

Also do you recomend a graphics tablet? how much would a good one cost (̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã)?

If this is in the wrong forum please move it.

No need of a tablet to draw pixels.

All what you need is a good ol' mouse.

Or you can always draw a sketch on a piece of paper then scan it

mouse is perfectly fine. although i would defanantly get a tablet if you have the cash to spend, a mouse is fine. what you want to do is scribble out basic shpes, anatomy, and all that good stuff, then turn it into lineowrk. i myself use a tablett because i happened to get one real cheep, and i had the money to waste at the time. tabblets that are not pre owned are about 100 usd, no idea how much euprpean moneys...

Tablets are great for digital art but I'm not sure if it transfers into 'pixeling' too well. Pixeling is about placing each pixel manually, where you place them isn't effect by whether or not you use a tablet or mouse..

I do have a graphics pad but I just can't get it to work, im so used to using a mouse anyways so as long as my mouse works I wouldn't see the need for it.. But yes a tablet works wonders as your just drawing into your computer.

Brad, im not sure what brand's are best but If you want your tablet to work well I would seriously think of investing in something much more expensive, mine cost ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã40 and the bleedin thing doesn't even work.. It works but doesn't configure with my screen too well, maybe it's just mine but I've got the impression that the better quality tablet gives you better results..

Anyway back to your initial question, I've always tried to just use whatever methods I can to make using a mouse easier.. There's nothing stopping you starting out rough and eventually tweaking and altering until it looks the way you want it to. This is something I did ages ago to show someone how they could have pixeled a character in this position.

making linework smooth isn't depended on whether you have a tablet or mouse, it's your judgement as a pixel artist, you decide how it looks. Don't buy something if it clearly won't help you with that..

Exactly what terley said.

From my personal experience, I find that there's very little advantage using a tablet pen. The time it takes to create a pixel art is the same with or without an 'expensive or cheap' tablet. It all comes down to having patience and time because the majority of it, is a pixel by pixel process. :ohnoes:

Anyways...

Terley has a good step by step example right there - scribbles to final product.

For me however, I like my outlines nice and clean. The tools I generally use are the line and curve tool. Hardly, do I ever use the pencil to scribble an idea (unless, I'm in a rush).

Another way to get a clean outline (in which some professional pixellers have done) is to trace over a scanned picture of your initial sketches. This will work quite well if your program have layers.

Last but not least, having a good knowledge and experiences in traditional drawing will contribute greatly into your pixel art. I always say that...
