ive actually seen trees shaded in a variance of that sort...they had good tecique so it didnt look like crap like that...but there really is no wrong way

The shading on the tree vs. the ent looks like the light source is coming from inbetween them so that may be wrong if you arnt doing a fireball or something.

 

 

 

The tree shading is a little flat, looks like you only have a light side and a dark when it is susposed to be a cylinder and my eyes would like a litle more contrast in them because it is kind of hard to get the round shape idea when my eyes look at them.

 

 

 

To sum it al up: I like your shading but i think you should use at least 3 diffrent colors instead of 2 with a third drawn over Both so you cant reall see it and you should have the lightest and darkest side differ more. Also make sure the light souce is common among objects if it is not on the page.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

edit: i made a example but excuse me for it sucking its mostly because i suck at art and i filled in the color with the line tool and then air brushed it along the bounds of diff colors, becuase of that i messed up the lines of your roots. Also i made the tree's width more gradual since it only gets smaller at the roots and the rest of the way up it is straight. I made the lightest color in the tree lighter but kept the dark because i thought the tree was too dark comparedto the rest of your pic.

 

 

 

 

 

 

ps: i think your right tree root is too [bleep]y and usally ents have a main tree stem with leaves and such with 2 limbs coming out that sort of look like hand. Anther option is just making it look like a runescape ent witch i think is dumb(tree with evil look).

sry but shading a 'tree' in red yellow and orange is just stupid, you've definately not read what I've been saying.. You get your brown base colour, and when you lighten the shade more !!!!slightly!!!! towards the yellows and !!!!slightly!!!! towards the blue to darken, you've started off with an orange.. If you lighten that you get yellow, if you darken that you get red.. sorry but doing it as severe as that is just stupid... =;

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

look at the palette below, from the brown I move less saturated and I move right heading towards to yellow, and to darken I move away from the base colour heading left which if carried on going would take me to the blue
