November 22, 200619 yr 99.9% of clan ads have a clear message at the top of them - 'If you are not going to be active on the forums and attend clan events then do not bother applying'. Seems clear enough to me, so why do you still get people who join a clan make one or two posts and then do nothing what so ever to help the clan. The only time they get in touch is when they want to borrow/beg something or require help with a mundane simple task. Whats even worse is when you warn them or pm them in game or via the forums they go absolutely mental raving on about why should they have to use the forums, attend events etc - doh because you joined the clan! They also go on that no-one told them that they would have to do those sort of things - doh it is in the advert which we all assumed you would be able to read and had read prior to joining the clan. They then play the victim - 'You never told me what time the events were on'- doh thats why we have clan forums with posts detailing clan events and a calendar etc or 'I lost the link to the forums' or 'Busy in RL' yet they on RS all the time etc. Myself and a few friends set up a clan because we knew that teamwork could help us in particular situations in RS and that some things are more fun when you have good company along to witness the madness and mayhem. So please if you aren t into teamworking and you are the type of weirdo I have just described do all us clan people a favour and don t bother applying
November 22, 200619 yr That has happened too many times to me. I interview them, walk them through everything which takes almost two hours then after a week they haven't posted. To get rid of these types of people, I've set up so many things which gets rid of them. It works :) So please if you aren t into teamworking and you are the type of weirdo I have just described do all us clan people a favour and don t bother applying That should be an announcement  *-P.K.M-* Website
November 22, 200619 yr Unfortunately, some people are just unable to read a disclaimer. Before we created the new Clan forums, users would often post their Recruitment topics in here, even although we had a notice in bold saying not to. When I led a Clan, sometime ago, there were countless members who did everything they could to avoid speaking to me because I knew they had been inactive. It has to be one of the most frustrating aspects of Clan leading. Offline and unavailable.

November 24, 200619 yr well I think we all have this problem. I get new recrutes some times who I never heer from again. but I do get some good recrutes too. when some one is not active for a week I give them a negitive point. when they are inactive for 2 weeks, I give them a second negitive point which meens they have to pay a fine of full rune to work it off. when there inactive for 3 weeks straight I give them a disshonourble disscharge. its not too hard for people to be active and if they are not they can always tell you in advance why they wont be around and you could cut them some slack. but I regret to say there are plenty of people who join your clan just becouse they want to say there in a clan. November 25, 200619 yr Yeah, those recruits are tough, they apply and sound all like they are going to be active participants then a week later and they haven't made a post. Inacitvity scans are useful. They are a pain in the neck too. EST. November 26, 200619 yr Yep, gotta love it, its probably the hardest part of putting together a clan. I made it so they have to activate their forum account so that I know their email is valid. Then, if they don't log in for 2 weeks to the forum or post, I send them a warning via email. If the inactivity continues for another 2 weeks, they are deleted and banned from clan events and all that. Actually if anyone has any suggestions on ways to control inactivity, please feel free to suggest :)
November 26, 200619 yr Well here's our run down of inactivity scans. First 10 days of the month: Send out bulk e-mail to tell everyone to post on a topic that they are still here in the clan. After 10th day: Move those who haven't responded into an "MIA" (Missing in Action) group. Send out another bulk e-mail telling them they have 5 days to get on the forums and get themselves out of the MIA group. After 15th day: Those still haven't responded, delete them, it's been half a month and they haven't said anything. Repeat every month. It helps if you have a category in your forums for people to post if they are going to be gone for 1+ week. EST. November 27, 200619 yr That's a pretty good way to do it. It must be a pain because it's so repetitive though. {\:-/ *-P.K.M-* Website

November 29, 200619 yr unfortunitlally you have the same problem with alot of groups even in real life. Rock bands are a good example. But really it boils down to, your actions speak greater volumes then words. In RKS (retribtuion kngihts- now disbanded) Tiger mom had a system where she required every member to attend 2 official clan events per week and make a min. of 5 active posts. This kinda weeded out the non-commit ones prety quick. Ah the good ol days. Anyway, the simple fact is that no matter how you look at it, there are some real weird ones out there who play rs, cant be helped: olny delt with as much as possible. To tell you the truth the clan i created is based on my real life friends, not really ppl i've met on rs. I have a policy that anyone i know in rl who wants to join my clan gets an auto in, anyone comming from over rs gets put on a 30 day trial period if they meet regs. that's how I deal with it. November 29, 200619 yr How'd they make sure that that specific person attended 2 events? It's a lot to keep track of. EST. February 2006Golden Legion wants YOU to join us! 70+ CB, 65+ CB exception.Running for over 10 months!Click on the banner or go to s15.invisionfree.com/Golden_Legion/
November 29, 200619 yr Don't confuse intelligence with the ability to have a real life. I don't think joining a clan and doing things without it is considered 'real life' Proud founder of the Myriad
November 29, 200619 yr Yes, activity does create spammers, but not all clan members would spam. Just give the person a warning, & he or she won't spam again. *-P.K.M-* Website
November 29, 200619 yr The clan i'm in has sweeps every now and then and inactive ppl get kicked. also pk's and other events might be mandatory, meaning if you're online you must attend. i don't mind that but some ppl can't even get through their apprentice-time without being inactive  Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward. Whoever cannot take care of himself without that law is both. For a wounded man shall say to his assailant: "If I live, I will kill you, If I Die, you are forgiven." Such is the Rule of Honor.
November 29, 200619 yr How'd they make sure that that specific person attended 2 events? It's a lot to keep track of. Every official clan evert: (War, pking, ect.) had one of the head council member leading it. They just checked off who was there, at the end of the week ppl who didnt show activity got a warning, 3 strikes your out, and it took time to earn off strikes against your name. It worked in some ways but not in others. There's a careful balance that the clan leadership and the clan members have to try and maintain between being too strict and too leanient, between having no life and being inactive. It's a hard balance to meet, although some people will disagree, it's as simple as that. Guild Master of the Vancor Knights
November 29, 200619 yr The forum my clan uses is very convenient with this stuff. When admins look at the member list they can see the last time someone logged onto the forum; if someone hasn't logged on for two weeks or more without saying anything about it, I'll delete them. That part is easy. Unfortunately, there will always be people who post on the forum regularly but don't attend events for dumb reasons, simply because they don't want to or whatever; those ones are a bit harder to weed out.

December 25, 200619 yr This has nothing to do with the topic at hand - Grim If you choose your beliefs/lifestyle simply based on what your parents want, then you are a weak minded individual and are not even worthy of calling yourself a person.
