RebelAssassin
i recently baught a new GFX card and a PSU (in that other thread i made) and they work great, but im now having an overheating problem (you can hear the main PSU fan going on for about 30 seconds when playing BF2). the PSU has a fan inside the PC that moves the air around the PC without taking it out. With that i have a poor main fan fan and another fan on my GFX card. I need a cheap (and im talking dirt cheap, no more than ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã10) solution that i can use. At first i thought i could just leave the side case off, but stuff could get in to the PC and damage it. Then i thought about taking the side off and replacing it with a thin wire mesh, and thats what im thinking of doing right now. www.PETAkillsanimals.com
zonda
What specifically is over heating? Your graphics card? The CPU? If it's the cpu, it could be a bad /cracked heatsink. Cheap ways to coop with overheating is getting another case fan or buying thermal paste - both are reltivly cheap. Otherwise, just open up the side of your case and let the air flow naturally, shouldnt pose any problems. ...
RebelAssassin
deffinatly the video card, only happens when playing high end games. frizoid
your psu fan should be blowing air out of your pc...unless you have this confused with a cpu fan?
RebelAssassin
it would be impossible, unless there was a hole on the top of the PC. www.PETAkillsanimals.com
Chris
You do realise that's supposed to happen? Computer heats up, computer thinks "damn, it's hot in here" and computer switches on a fan. Or more likely turns up the fan to a higher speed until the temperature comes down. My graphics card does the same. I play something like Oblivion on high detail for about 10 minutes and the fan goes into overdrive. It sounds like a bloody vacuum. Still, it's normal and shouldn't be complained at. To reduce the noise when you're playing high detail games your best bet would be to rebuild your computer for max airflow. Get a large (slow speed) intake fan in the front and get another large (slow speed) exhaust fan for the back. Depends on if they'll both fit in your case too. If it is definately your PSU fan that's speeding up this'll help by reducing the temperature of the air that goes into the PSU to cool it down. Or on the other hand, you could just run it with the case off. Notoriously Trollish.
JoeDaStudd
A free way to add a little extra air flow is to open up the case and do some cable management. If any cables are near any of the fans move then to one side and tie them down. Depending on the case another fan might work, but you should check the air flow on your current case first. As bad air flow will lead to extra heat. Kinslayer777
If i understand the 'problem' right your options are: 1: buying a special graphics card cooler. It'll run you 60 USD 2: It's not a problem. If i understand right it's normal. It's same for me. It's just your graphics card is under stress during games so it turns up the graphics card fan. My ATI X1900XT 256mb has a tiny fan, so when it turns it on it's LOUD since it needs to spin fast.
