Dreads

OMFG! You still wash your hair when you have dreads! At least you should. Making them isn't too hard, the people i know, who have dreads either make them themselves or get them made by a friend. You just need to grab a strand hold it down with one hand firmly and with the other you pull up and down. Just try it out. Of course you can't open them anymore, but have to cut them if you don't want them anymore.

EDIT: I could imagine it's easier to make them with unwashed hair, but i guess you could as well put something into them to reduce smoothness.

u morons, u can wash dreadlocks, in fact, you are supposed to. my friend washes his dreads twice a week, more than some people with regular hair, and his dreadlocks are brilliant.

Twice a week is more than some people with regular hair?! Where do you live? Everyone I know takes a shower and washes their hair everyday.

I have long straight hair, wash it twice a week (with this olive shampoo from body shop) and comb it every day (otherwise i'd leave my hair everywhere i go). I received many compliments about my hair. (just the right thing to flatter a guy with =P)

Yeah, I was going to say something about that. You don't have running water or something? I take a shower every morning.

This kid at my school pulls them off pretty well, but of course he looks like a dirty hippie.

I think that's what he is going for though.

that basically is the point of dreadlocks.

That is really, really bad for your hair. It's reccommended not to wash 'normal' hair more than three times a week.

Really? I'd heard anything more than once a day was excessive but surely washing hair daily is just common hygeine?

I'm not a huge fan of dreadlocks, you need to be pretty cool to pull them off, and even then they look pretty messy. Black guys can pull them off easily though.

It's so nasty when people come into school without their hair washed. It makes people's hair all greasey and nappy, and it makes me want to throw up.

I wash mine at least once a day, sometimes I'll get a shower at night and the morning though.

Ghost: I am prejudice towards ignorance, so that would explain why I appear to be so.

It is healthiest to shower 3-4 times a week. That means if you shower every other day, one week you will shower 3 times and the next you will shower 4. I have to shower everyday because I work manual labour. I frequently come home covered in mud, grease, grass (in the spring/summer), sometimes gas/diesel fuel and not to mention the big one, sweat. If I didn't shower everyday, I would have a permanent stench.

Washing your body every day, common hygiene, but hair, with shampoo, conditioner etc? *shakes head*

I have a H&S shampoo that says that the shampoo won't do any harm to the scalp or hair, and I use it every day. I haven't noticed any major damage yet ( I've used it for like 7 months).

But yes, if it isn't a special shampoo, it does damage your scalp if used too often.

How often should I shampoo?

Hair cannot be washed too often!

Our ancestors washed their hair only rarely. We know that hair left unwashed for several weeks

turns into a matted, smelly mess. We can only imagine the state of the scalps beneath those elaborate powdered wigs we see in portraits on the walls of stately homes!

This doesn't fit with our modern image of cleanliness and health. Hair can be washed every day, even several times a day if necessary. Today's shampoos do not damage hair. Their conditioning agents positively protect the cuticle against harm from brushing and combing.

So how often you wash your hair is a purely personal decision, one for you alone.

Not washing everyday especially when going out is gross. I have medium length hair and it's a mess if I don't take a shower in the morning. Don't even want to imagine if it's a girl's hair. Unless you don't do any physical activity at all that makes you sweat.
