Kent Hovind's "100 reasons evolution is stupid".

Well, not too long time ago, there was this thread about shark that bit off boy's leg. In that thread everybody agreed that shark should not be killed, but still everyone argued about that, even when everyone shared the same opinion. everything is possible on OT :P

I didn't think the shark should not be killed. I also didn't think it should be killed. I thought it best to leave the decision up to the family. Personally, it wouldn't be worth the time and money to kill it. But if they wanted to, it's their choice. /OT

I just wanted to know, your title says 100 reasons, yet you say two videos gave you six reasons. Was the title supposed to be 10 reasons?

The title of his series is "100 reasons", but I didn't count them. In the two videos, he probably gave 20+, so it's about right.

And no, I said I saw two videos, and there are six total. :P

I just found them interesting. I like how people can make up entire histories/stories by just linking a few things that MIGHT be related. It's like reading a book, only about us. :P

The popularity of any given religion today depends on the victories of the wars they fought in the past.

I don't agree with that Hovind guy, I do agree with Tigra's statement.

Some of the 'science' stuff taught in school is misguided or not even verified, since the teachers have zero interest in providing correct interest to some students in, say, remote towns where legislation on the accurateness of information may be loosely enforced (in schools, due to a lack of resources)

I do remember when I was in school, we still were taught some of these ridiculous theories like "today's assignment is to write a 2-page essay about how apes evolved into humans". Too bad mrs. Teacher, that didn't happen. Read up more on the topic.

Then we were taught how 'humans had a hard time evading dinosaurs'. Good, except humans as we know them didn't even exist during the time of dinosaurs.

Not to mention countless other b.s. "subjects" on science. If you are teaching science, you must make sure the facts are correct.

This is exactly as pissing off as a document about christmas I just watched on TV. A kid (the family was obviously very religious and all the kids were members of their local church choir) was asked "what's so good about christmas?"

"I like it because Jesus was born then. It celebrates his birthday".

Not that I have anything against the kid, since he's just saying what he has learned, but December 24th is in no way linked directly to Jesus's birthday. Coincidentally, the pagan tradition of Yule (christmas) has begun around that day of the year for thousands of years.

The '24th' is a rather new invention by the catholic church hundreds of years after Jesus's death.

I liked this video, because he questioned something that you aren't really allowed to question. I mean, everybody who doesn't believe in evolution is considered stupid. Problem i have with this guy, is that he says evolution is stupid and turns around and says creationism is the thing.

Still some of the things he pointed out, were things i wondered about when i learned them in school. For example nobody knows how life evolved out of those early amino acids, that are supposed to be possible to form. (I say supposed, because the guy in the video says they can't form.)

One problem with his argumentation is, that there are too many "facts" you just can't verify just by watching the video. You'd have to believe him that they are true. Also sometimes he mixes jokes, that seem to be on topic, but are off topic with the evidence he provides, so that the audience is lead to think that evolution is.. well stupid. Great rethoric i have to give him that.

As said before i think it's great he questions evolution. For all i know i couldn't tell if evolution is true or false. The only evidence i have is the evidence i was told to exist. I can say the same about creationism. I couldn't tell by myself wether it's true or false. I just was told it to be false. I can't prove either of them, nor could i falsify them.

I didn't believe in evolution before i saw this video, nor did i believe in creationism. So if you ask me, both theories are wrong, or maybe both are right. I don't prefer one above the other.

The bottom line:

He's a crackpot who, when presented with proof that he is wrong, ignores it. Much like Xplsvbam.

agreed

its people like Kent Hovind who make me sick at the human race and our potential to be absolute [bleep] heads.

edit: sorry to bring this post up again, but i just read a bit about this guy and its kind of disturbing.

Yes yes, we know he is a dork. Whoever said he was a racist (against Jews) however, is wrong. He sells the book on his website because he's a conspiracy theorist and he believes it was written to blame problems on Jews, or something.

Yea, he's kooky and I don't believe any of it, but I just wanted to watch the other vids. :P

If he is a dork, why are you so keen on sticking up for him?

Some people are changed by being a moderator. I wouldn't be.
