Why can't people just learn to love?

I was convinced, today, that every inch of my school is crap. This kid (doesn't do school work, doesn't try, and slacks off all day, but people idolize him for it) went up to my friends and said, "Well, at least I have clean wrists." I tried speaking to him. I tried telling him that his lack of integrity was hurting other people, and I tried telling him how offended my friends and I are about those kind of insults. Want to know what happened next? The people around us started laughing. Luckily, I made it to the counserlor's office before I started to break down in front of my class and my friends.

Do you know why he did it? Neither do I. We didn't do one thing to him. In fact, we usually try to avoid him. He just had to go there...

Yes, he did get talked to, and everyone else who laughed is also getting talked to. Sadly, I don't think it's going to help. One of the people who started laughing tried to tell me that she didn't mean it, but obviously that was crap. I don't think the kid responsible for this will learn anything, and sadly, I think he'll just do it anyway.

In my opinion, anyone who can say that with a straight face, or without feeling a shred of sorrow is pure evil. He had no idea what he was talking about, and if he did, he'd think twice about saying it. He has no idea how offended I was, and how offended my friends are. If that's the case, then everyone in my school is pure evil. They think they want peace and love, but really, they discriminate everyone who doesn't wear pink Hollister apparel. It's sickening. I don't see why it's so hard to just respect everyone equally. I'm not saying you have to be friends with everyone you meet, I'm just saying that respect is deserved by everyone. I just wish it were that easy...

Thanks for reading this. I got a lot off my chest. I hope you all can benefit from reading this somehow. Please post any additional feelings, suggestions, questions, and comments.

Don't care about them. Just do what you need to do to be successful. You aren't there to benefit others. We live in a dog-eat-dog world. Survival of the fittest. Go and do well in school the best you can. Nothing can effect you. Don't do anything for anybody and they won't do anything to you.

They all slack off and get jobs under the Golden Arches, you can be a CEO. Then you won't care anymore and can laugh in their faces.

Well, I'm going to have to live with it for a while. I just don't see why they can't have a shred of respect for one another...

Why do they feel that they must insult those that are different from them? This what I mean by 21st Century racism.

do you cut your wrists though?

cos if the answer is yes i'd laugh at you as well

This is what I'm talking out. Why would you say something like that?

i'll explain when you answer my question

My friends used to have a problem with it. They don't really anymore, though. I'm still not completely sure if they have stopped, but they have certainly cut down a lot.

Now, why is that funny? Don't give me any "what they're doing to themselves/why they feel they must do it is funny" crap.

They do give me something. They give my friends and I cruel insults that I must choose either to brush off or take further. I have to learn with them in the room, so they have to learn to respect us. It's just common nature. I have to be with them, so they really need to respect us.

They think that they're cool by making fun of you. I honestly wouldn't ever say that, and I can't believe that these people are heartless enough to make fun of you and your friends, despite the fact that they don't know what they're talking about.

By the way, I am just sympathizing. I do not cut myself, except by accident.

Bottom line: Its your life not their's. They need to let it go.

Self harm is always frowned upon as desperate and selfish. It is desperate because the people who do it feel they cannot resolve their problems and instead subdue it through cutting themselves, this isn't good for a few reasons.

The problem isn't sorted out.

It is dangerous and therefore stupid.

Makes me look down upon you which isn't good considering you already feel people look down upon you.

It is also selfish because people who self harm don't really know what sorta thing they're getting themselves into. Though you'd like to think only you are aware of the habbit, often your parents can see a problem, how do you think they feel knowing they have a depressed son/daughter who can only express themselves through hurting themselves instead of speaking to them?

That's how I feel about it anyway, everyone has got problems, currently i'm feeling a bit emo myself lately so the best thing to do what I do is talk to someone about it.

As for the [bleep] who laughs at you (even though as previously mentioned, i'd do the same), he isn't particularly clever but he isn't stupid either. Atleast he acknowledges it as a problem

Keep track of whoever said that, and in 10 years, find what Macdonalds they work at, and shove that insult in their face.

I rarely get bullied. That's because I'm not scared of many people from my school, even if they're in grade 12 (grade 7 atm). If they do try and insult me, I insult them back, or pop 'em. They usually shut up after they find out that you won't be tossed around like a rag doll.

Some lack of respect stems from ignorance as to what respect really is. You know, parents never teaching their child that others do deserve respect... And it is hard to learn it after you've been in the world for a few years. Also, for some reason, kids these days find it hard to swallow their pride and treat someone else like an equal. It's odd. But, people like that just can't be dealt with. Somewhere in life, they will learn the hard way. Just don't let them phase you. They're not worth getting upset over.

I just ignore them. I'm no longer going to be phased by them. I may even respond with "Thank you."

Things like popularity in high school won't (rarely) make a difference in your life after high school. The dedicated smart kids, and some of the smart but socially inept kids will most likely be the bosses of the popular kids, but not in all cases, sometimes the kid can be popular and smart.

They do it for attention, most of the time they don't get enough attention at home, and so seek attention at school, by picking on weaker kids hoping their popularity will either grow, or lots of kids will notice and give them tons of attention.

Isn't slashing wrists a sign of depression?

That's why they are making fun of you. By cutting your wrists every time you get mad/nervous, they see that you have depression and thus you are not like them. So in turn, they make fun of you, which would only make it worse.

I just pop my knuckles when I'm nervous....

If anyone ever said something like that around my friends and any of them were offended, that kid wouldn't get a talking to. I'd make sure he ended up in the hospital. I'm not the biggest guy around but I can throw a punch. And I've got a little anger problem that makes me very irrational when people act like a*holes. People like that kid piss me off.. <.<

I laugh at idiots. Then, flip them off when they're not looking and smack them on the face and push them into their lockers.

Yeah, I am violent if you couldn't tell.

Aren't you six inches taller than most people your age though :P?

That's a load of crap. If he acknowledged it as a problem, he wouldn't have been so mean. Do you understand? Basically, you're saying the kid is okay for saying this: "I recognize that some of your friends have problems, and because of that I get to insult you."

That kid is stupid, cruel, and doesn't know what he's talking about. He has no idea how offensive that was, and for that he is incredibly oblivious to what goes on around him. If you fail to see that then you are indeed lost.
