January 5, 200719 yr I am currently programming a game which will be much like Warcraft III, only with insects. I have all the coding for motion of units down. however, I am currently trying to work out a working formula for damage inflicted. The question is: can you help me make a good formula for damage? It should factor in things like attack, armor, and some random chance. An example formula: [where "a" is the attack value and "d" is the enemy's armor value] (2a)/d-(random # between 5 and 10) This is not the formula I will use; my formula will be complex... Any ideas on how to improve it? If you help, I'll put you in the game's credits... And, if you really want it, I'll post an [Caution: ExecutableFile] file of the program up here for public viewing.. ahh... the good old days, when 30 attack got you on the high-scores....... An orthodox Jew and proud of it!
January 5, 200719 yr i would suggest the random factor wouldnt be a fixed amount, but instead say, do (random number between 1.5 and 2.5 x attack) / d babelfish - level 180 60th placestrongguy - level 173 69th place
January 5, 200719 yr Author i could make it a simple fraction with a random number, whether the random number is in the numerator or denominator, but that leads to a very small variation in damage.. ahh... the good old days, when 30 attack got you on the high-scores....... January 5, 200719 yr hmmm, wouldn't it also kinda depend on the level of the character attacking and the max ammount of health someone can have? cause you don't want people just running around one hitting each other do you? 99 HP, Attack, Strength, Defence, Summoning, Ranged, Herblore, Prayer, Agility, Magic, Slayer, Fletching, Fishing, Woodcutting, Mining, and Thieving. January 5, 200719 yr Author you have to realize that in those kind of games, it isn't dependent on level; the character gets stat bonuses when he levels up. However, the formula I am looking for is not one for "hero" units, but rather normal units. However, the point you made about the opponents max hp is good. ahh... the good old days, when 30 attack got you on the high-scores....... An orthodox Jew and proud of it!
January 5, 200719 yr Is there a grid system that you have worked out in the code? Perhaps add to it the distance (i.e. your equations -2distance). What are you coding this in by the way? Sig by IkuraiYour Guide to Posting! Behave or I will send my Moose mounted Beaver launchers at you!

January 5, 200719 yr I'd like a little more information on what you mean really, I'm sort of confuzzled. ( Yes, I had to say that. ) My Farewell thread. Please post nicely, or die. :^_^:Yea, I'd vote for him too. But I don't think they let Iraqis vote :P
January 5, 200719 yr Whatever you do, pm me the [Caution: ExecutableFile] file version of the game. I'd like to play it once its completed.

I'd like to play it once its completed. Same here, this game sounds like fun, I've played Warcraft and liked it, so I might like this. 99 HP, Attack, Strength, Defence, Summoning, Ranged, Herblore, Prayer, Agility, Magic, Slayer, Fletching, Fishing, Woodcutting, Mining, and Thieving. January 5, 200719 yr d=(r*a=pmd)-(d2+de) D is damage, r is random number 1-10, a is attack, d2 is armour value and de is oppanants defence level if you implement that. pmd means players max damage. Denizen of Darkness| PSN= sworddude198
January 5, 200719 yr realy would like to see such a game i playd warcraft (oh gosh i hate world of warcraft no i dont to that stuf i mean the real warcrafts)
January 5, 200719 yr I can't really help you, but I wouldn't mind testing it... as long as it isn't a trojan or spyware. :-w "A time comes when silence is betrayal" MLKJ Speak your mind, but be civil.Get mad, but do not rage.Do unto others as you would want done to yourself. January 6, 200719 yr So what language are you programming this in? This isn't another script kiddies C# "uber pwnage game" I hope #-o? As long as it isn't, best of luck! rotalsnarT laciffOSolving the confusion once and for all

January 6, 200719 yr You would probably need to factor in armor and the level/capability of what the person is using. (I'm pretty sure you've thought of that) I've actually never played WOW but if it's what I'm thinking, I congratulate you on such an accomplishment.:) If I ever get a chance to play the game and it's pretty cool, I'll come to you with all my gaming problems...well, I don't usually have that many that I can't figure out.:) Also, the random hit is a good thing too. Like -I forget who- said, you don't want anybody going around 1 hitting anybody. I didn't read all of the posts, but hope I am of help to you.:) Lol, I just reread your topic post and I guess you have this down, I wanna know why you don't use that? ~Every party has a pooper. January 7, 200719 yr Author all right.. time to clarify a little...: I program in "gml", gamemaker language, the coding language used in a program, you guessed it, named game maker. d=(r*a=pmd)-(d2+de) D is damage, r is random number 1-10, a is attack, d2 is armour value and de is oppanants defence level if you implement that. pmd means players max damage. sounds good, but it wil be more 'command-and-conquer'esque; no defence levels, just possibly defence values. I could post what I've programmed so far on this here forum; it's not much though, really just moving insects. And music, oh yes, music that my co-developer made. ahh... the good old days, when 30 attack got you on the high-scores....... An orthodox Jew and proud of it!
