Redman4933
Anyone who has been to my website will know that I create programs. Trouble is, I don't know whether people actually download them! Has anyone here downloaded a program I've created? If not, please do so. I'd love to hear (well, read) your comments! Retired from RuneScape as of November 10th 2007. weezcake
Why not put some kind of chatbox or comment system on your site? ==================================Retired tip.it moderator.Teaching and inspiring.
Redman4933
A chatbox I can do. Comment posting I can't, as I am not allowed PHP on my website. Maybe if I get my own webserver though... Cruiser
If you're limited in your web hosting you could tag your download links with Google Analytics to track clicks. It uses javascript so it doesn't take anything special server side. Takes a little reading up on to figure out how to tag specific links but isn't too hard once you get it. It'll also give you good traffic stats for the site in general.
Redman4933
OK, I've set up Google Analytics. What about the actual programs themselves? Any comments or suggestions? Darrel104
Well i have not seen you much so i never have read you link before. It looks like you need to switch from from the command buttons and message boxes and switch to pixels/sprites since no one really likes text-based games. For some suggestion programs, maybe you could make a tic-tac-toe game then snake or an rpg.
Mercifull
Some tips to improve your website: Take off the message box that tells people what browser to use. I dont like it demanding how I view web pages on the internet. (I only use IE at work) Remove the Cafepress/Spreadshirt store. It looks very amateurish and lets be honest, noone here is going to get any clothing from you. And even if they do you will only get one or two dollars and Cafepress wont pay you until you reach $100 or something lame. Its pointless and clutters up your site. More pictures... Your site looks a little bland. Its all text and no bells and whistles. I'm not suggesting you go mad and go to the other extreme whereby its just a photoshop image sliced up, but a few images here and there would help split up the text and make it more pleasing on the eye. The actual content of your site is good but i think it needs a redesign, perhaps that will entice people to download a bit more. At the moment your site looks like it was made using an online form and generated on the fly, this gives the impression that your programs could be of the same low quality and thus refrain from downloading. What the hell was I thinking? Mind you, I need to pay for a new webserver SOMEHOW. My uncle is my webhost, for goodness sake! And he won't let me use PHP, SQL, CGI, etc. JavaScript is OK, but there's just so much it can't do. EDIT: done. More pictures... Your site looks a little bland. I'm not suggesting you go mad and go to the other extreme whereby its just a photoshop image sliced up, but a few images here and there would help split up the text and make it more pleasing on the eye. Graphics design is a skill I'm not familiar with. And what sort of images are you suggesting? The actual content of your site is good but i think it needs a redesign, perhaps that will entice people to download a bit more. At the moment your site looks like it was made using an online form and generated on the fly, this gives the impression that your programs could be of the same low quality and thus refrain from downloading. I created that design by myself, none of those worthless online forms were used. And what sort of design would you suggest? Retired from RuneScape as of November 10th 2007. Mercifull
Basicly you just need to make a nicer main design. A header that matches the main colour scheme would be a good start as well as images or little icons to show the different sections of your site. A few simple CSS tricks like making links change colour when you roll over just makes it look that little bit nicer rather than the basic text and blue underlined links from 1999. At the moment I dont really know what im going to expect until I download and install the program. A little page for each things explaining what it does and some screenshots would be very helpful. As for hosting costs, it shouldnt cost you any more than ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã3 a month. See http://www.webhostingtalk.com for cheap deals. I've altered the CSS. Links turn red when you hover over them. At the moment I dont really know what im going to expect until I download and install the program. Errdoth
why don't you sell them on download.com, that's what I do with a few of mine (you can make them free too), they will show downloads and you can keep your same site to use for suport. Just an idea. Last.fm Signature Overlays

Redman4933
I'm about to start redesigning the site. But I'm not sure what sort of design to go for. Any ideas? Also, I need a new logo and slogan. If anyone can come up with either, I'll love you for life! Retired from RuneScape as of November 10th 2007. Cruiser
For site ideas you can look around at sites such as Open Source Web Design and other free/open source design sites. It'll give you some design ideas (or a template to just use as long as you credit the designer) and give you source to look at if and when you build your own layout. Errdoth, some people would much rather host their software themselves instead of throwing them into the sea of trialware that is download.com. If he has the hosting and bandwidth to host them on his own site, there's no reason to move it elsewhere.
