The Gvs.G debate (Graphics vs. Gameplay)

well rockstar chose gameplay over graphics with there GTA series because they coulda made the graphics wayyyy better for the PS2 but they chose gameplay.

1 second please say you were being sarcastic that only applies for gta 3

the others are graphic dominated

I just finished playing about an hours worth of GTA SA, and i would have to say that those graphics are pretty crappy, but the game play is extremely sweet, which is what makes me play.

gta sa is a rubbish game in my opinion and i think majority of people play for the graphics

Graphics? GTA games have horrible graphics compared to other games. In those games it's nothing but gameplay. Vice City and San Andreas have amazing storylines. Graphics is a whole different story.

I see you dont live near people who think that graphics rule a game etc?

Gameplay, of course. Dont'really see how you can discuss that. Sure, they're both important. But graphics work for the gameplay. Not the other way around.

You would be surprised. I have some friends at school who will not play any system that has graphics worse then the ps2's, and if i try talking about new games to them, the first question asked : What are the graphics like?

When i respond with "I dunno, i guess they are good, ive seen better. does it matter though?" most of the time they say "Err if it doesn't have good graphics, im not playing."

I have some friends like that. Will never touch a game below ps2 graphics.

Gameplay is like Bread and Graphics are like butter.

Butter is terrible on moldy bread,

but good bread can be great alone.

but when they are both together, you can get something amazing

I can admit that for a java based game, its awesome for graphics, but it lacks too much in the game play/story department for myself. In the 5 years that i did play it before switching to WoW, i had members for about 3. And even with that, ive never actually found any real story line that fits in the whole game. Like with WoW, at least there is the "Alliance vs. Horde vs. Burning legion" thing going on, but in RS, it seems to just exist for the hell of it.

Not to mention the grinding for Rs can be a little boring at times...

Recently graphics can have an effect on movie type games such as final fantasy or metal gear. Where its more of a movie with interactable parts.

Summed up what I wanted to say. A game can survive if its simply really fun and the graphics can be overlooked, but graphics can't save a game. However, with both of them together = something great.

I see you don't live near people who have seen a next-gen console or high-end PC?

GTA games have average at best graphics.

Are we all forgetting GTA 1 and 2 here? The top down cartoon graphics? Crimeny.

I played a Bit of number 2. Then again, the game didn't work very well, and would stop playing after an hour, so i never cared for the story line part. The running around and shooting people was still basically the same level of fun as 3 and vice city though :D
