warri0r45
Sorry to you yanks and poms et al, but this topic if for the Aussies out there. Tomorrow is Australia Day, the anniversary of the landing of the first fleet way back when in 1788. What do you guys have planned for the day to celebrate? For me, I am going to celebrate the stength of Australian sport by watching the Aussies nail the poms (again  :P ) in the ODI match on TV.
Guest
Play Tennis in the morning with my mate, to get ready for an upcoming tournament, and then go home and watch the ODI. My family and I might go out to dinner after that or something like that. :)

Kaphias
Yea! I live in Alaska, but happen to be half Australian. We usually have some little party here of some Aussies that managed to find their way up here. 8,325th to 99 Firemaking 3/9/08 | 44,811th to 99 Cooking 7/16/084,968th to 99 Farming 10/9/09 | Runescaper August 2005-March 2010Tip.it Mod Feb. 2008-Sep. 2008 | Tip.it Crew Sep. 2008-Nov. 2009
Obsessive_Passion
I'll be watching the tennis on TV (the semis!) and having a barbeque for lunch/dinner. Might pop out to the shops in the early morning to see what last minute groceries I can get. Nothing special, but it isn't an important event in my calender. Guest
Wasn't said ship full of convicts? :-s Say what? :? If your asking were the ships full of convicts - yes they were (besides the supply ships) as well as al ot of soldiers and such. By the time they got to Sydney and settled there were a lot of free settlers and not just convicts.

Guest
Bah, the aboriginals are the real australians. I don't plan on doing anything at all tomorrow. I hate how people say that - especially Australians. Compared to Europeans they've done nothing to Australia as a country. They just inhabited it first. Big deal. And what makes them any more "real Australians" than others such as the Europeans.

I feel sorry for them for the stereotypes, but it's thier own fault in many ways (keep in mind stereotypes are never justified).

What the fact that if Europeans hadn't come they'd still be running around naked, building bark huts, going out everyday to hunt a few kangaroos, then going home at night to jump around a fire (carobaree [sp?]), telling stories about how a Gigantic Lizard once moved through the bush creating now what is hills and valleys. Na that's all true.

warri0r45
Ease up there Eels; the Dreamtime is the most sacred element of the Aboriginal history. Yeah, just because they are/were primative people dosen't mean that they are bad. I actually envy the simplicity they had in thier lives. Much easier than all the superficial tripe you have to wade through these days.

Much easier than all the superficial tripe you have to wade through these days. I'm not saying their bad people at all. I just get really annoyed when people (especially Australians) say how bad we were for taking their land and settling on it. And trust me you'd be over a simplict life in no time. Just think about it - no electricity, no running water, no proper housing, no running water, no toilets (you have to go dig a hole everytime you need to do a number 2), no enjoyable things such as tv's, computer;s etc, you'd have to go out and catch your own food -day after day after day for your whole life instead of having the luxury of going to a supermarket, having to live out with the elements - through the rain, hail, wind, sun etc. The list goes on and on. I'm not bagging out the people (I know a lot of really nice Aboriginals) I'm having a go at their lifestyle and more particularly others (mainly fellow Australians) who are against the settlement of Europeans in Australia.

And as for living the primative lifestyle, I think you missed my point. The reason why I said I envied thier way of living is that they dont have to deal with all of the superficial tripe you have to wade through these days.
