Notorious_Ice
Nowadays pretty much every teenager has the recent technology. The most popular is obviously computers, and the internet. I am doing an essay on this and I thaught I would throw around some ideas for discussion. The internet is used for things like 'sharing tips' about anorexia and bulimia http://www.news-medical.net/?id=21194 The internet is a huge reason why almost nobody takes the bible literally any more. Most people have the access to websites giving scientific facts about how the earth can't be 6000 years old etc. Most of todays youth know computer well, thanks to hours spent playing around with them. Perhaps teens are getting smarter, though social skills are suffering? A point I mentioned above, youth are getting smarter. Well actually its like the world economy: the smart are getting smarter and the dumb are getting dumber. Playing around with, fixing and customising computers develop problem solving skills among others. The internet is full of knowledge, it just takes an intelligent person to seperate the rubbish with the credible sites. Todays technology, and smarter teens leads to more cheating in school. For example ipod nanos are tiny and easily conceiled, and text files can be read from them. Youth obesity has been increasing lately, most teenagers do not do regular excercise, instead going on the computer. I as an athlete have noticed this, I know very few people who are both fit and spent lots of time on the internet. Todays technology can get youth into trouble, students using their knowledge of technology, and their lust for 'beating the system' for things as small as getting into their schools server and vandalising the website to attacks on a larger scale such as getting into confidential information or stealing money. I would also like to point out that I hate myspace, bebo etc. I think it's a waste of time, and only other myspace [bleep] give a crap about who posted what on whose myspace. Its not as bad in australia, but apparently in america its a huge topic for discussion. "Z0mg mary posted on petes myspace that he has a big nose, lets go make ourselves throw up to get skinny" If anybody here who is intelligent uses myspace/bebo I would love to hear your point of view on it. Don't be afraid your life will end, be afraid it will never begin.

Need to talk to distant friends who left you long ago? Go to MySpace. MySpace is far from a waste of time if you use it right, and won't run up your cell phone bill. Will add more later. A normal phone yes, but then you need their phone number, hope they're home (well, sort of same as hoping their online), and if they're not listed in the phone book your screwed. Nanosauromo
Sorry, I just have a deep hatred for myspace and all things similar to it. It literally hurts my eyes to look at a myspace page. A message to all myspace users: Huge background images and flashing neon fonts make a website hard to read! Pointless videos and annoying audio files make it take forever to load. Most people never even want to listen to your background music anyway! Nobody is going to click those totally irrevelent links on your page! Those 1623 people you have on your list are NOT your friends, they are just random people who you've NEVER met, NEVER will, and know NOTHING about! Blogs? Nobody cares that you ate a sandwich or took a nap! n its rly hrd to red if u typ lyk dis LOL1 Myspace and its brothers may ruin our chances of contacting intellegent life. Sorry. Yes, because of todays technology. When the bible was written, it was taken literally, thousands of people were killed in wars because of little facts that different people had different ideas about taking it too seriously. At one point if you didn't take the bible literally you were legally put to death. It is only recently that most christians don't believe the world is 6000 years old. Defender2516
Yes, computers and cell phones are a huge distraction into todays life. However, I never enjoyed guys or girl conversations at school. It was so vain. They was fighting over petty stuff. I am not saying people should not converse, but how about something alittle bit more intresting? Or something that matters? Why complain over insignificant things? I am one who spends far to much time on my computer at home, just recently I am reading all sorts of health books to make sure I have the knowledge to keep me in a healthy state. However, we can't point fingers just at Teens. Look at the knowledge we have.. and just imagine how much the government knows and keeps for themselfs. Our water is contaminated, our air is polluted and our land is 85% depleted of is nurtrients, so you won't find any in the food you eat. We are finding pesticides, metals, and all types of drugs banned in the 50's in the water systems. If your American, you are toxic. There is a lot of things that we put in our mouth, that we don't know what we are really eating. Inspite all the fast knowledge we get, we still end up spiralling down to destruction, inless we make the right choices. ~Defender~ If you love me, send me a PM. 8 - Love me2 - Hate me

pault
Nowadays pretty much every teenager has the recent technology. The most popular is obviously computers, and the internet. I am doing an essay on this and I thaught I would throw around some ideas for discussion. Well, if you don't count any teenagers in third world countries this is true. If you don't count poor people, this is true. The internet is used for things like 'sharing tips' about anorexia and bulimia http://www.news-medical.net/?id=21194 Not to mention there is freely available information on how to do everything from building an atomic bomb to building a pipe bomb in your backyard. The internet is a huge reason why almost nobody takes the bible literally any more. Most people have the access to websites giving scientific facts about how the earth can't be 6000 years old etc. Are you implying that a large portion of people ever took the bible literally? Have you read European history and do you understand the dynamic role the Christian church and organized religion in general has had as a military and ideological force? The Christian church is a huge reason why almost nobody takes the bible literally anymore. And, once again your "Most people" is only true if you don't count poor people. Access to vast amounts of information has not made young people in developed countries any smarter, in fact one would have an easier time arguing the opposite. You can find any book ever written on the internet, for example, but most teenagers are more likely to spend time on the internet browsing facebook or myspace or instant messenging or playing games than learning real history or exposing themselves to quality literature. All the information is there, and it's not hard to get to, the issue is one of motivation. Todays technology, and smarter teens leads to more cheating in school. For example ipod nanos are tiny and easily conceiled, and text files can be read from them. People always lie, cheat, and steal. The methods and settings change, but human nature is always there. I don't believe there is more cheating, it's simply easier. Youth obesity has been increasing lately, most teenagers do not do regular excercise, instead going on the computer. I as an athlete have noticed this, I know very few people who are both fit and spent lots of time on the internet. An increase of youth obesity (in certain developed countries) is caused by much wider socioeconomic trends than the personal computer. There are many people who spend a large amount of time on net and are in great shape. Todays technology can get youth into trouble, students using their knowledge of technology, and their lust for 'beating the system' for things as small as getting into their schools server and vandalising the website to attacks on a larger scale such as getting into confidential information or stealing money. This isn't technology getting youth into trouble, this is the youth using technology to get into trouble. People are always going to steal and destroy. The internet is just another way to finish what Satan started. I would also like to point out that I hate myspace, bebo etc. I think it's a waste of time, and only other myspace [bleep] give a crap about who posted what on whose myspace. Its not as bad in australia, but apparently in america its a huge topic for discussion. When me and my friends go out on a night say one person takes pictures - he uploads them to his pc - puts them on his/her bebo and we can all take from there. If we were to get them developed one set per person it would cost a ton, and to send them all via MSN would take stupidly long. Then as im going I leave a small but witty comment on the way out :D. That and i do qualify as intelligent without being arrogant thank you
Devilsdragon
People always lie, cheat, and steal. The methods and settings change, but human nature is always there. I don't believe there is more cheating, it's simply easier. Cheating in school has increased in the past 50 years or so according to surveys. Also, I talk to people on facebook that I wouldn't hang out with or even see in real life. I met them once somewhere friended them and now we can talk about stuff, which might lead to me hanging out with them. Usually when you meet a person through a friend you don't hang out with them without that friend around. Myspace isn't as bad as a lot of people make it sound. I like using instead of my yahoo e-mail because most of the people I know have a myspace acoount , and it's easy to use to communicate with everyone. I dont have to pay for longdistance phone calls when I talk to friends on there. I log on most days to see if I have any messages, and then do other stuff. It just depends on who you are. some people do spend hours everyday on it posting idiotic stuff and obsessing over their pictues and page and trying to get as many friends as they can, and in those cases I do think it's a waste of time. A message to all myspace users: Huge background images and flashing neon fonts make a website hard to read! Pointless videos and annoying audio files make it take forever to load. Notorious_Ice
Well, if you don't count any teenagers in third world countries this is true. If you don't count poor people, this is true. Im talking about youth in my own country: Australia. Not to mention there is freely available information on how to do everything from building an atomic bomb to building a pipe bomb in your backyard. True. The internet is a source of all kinds of potentially dangerous information. When the bible was written, it was generally taken as fact.- Jesus walked on water etc. I still know people today that take it literally. Some people do. As I said: the smart get smarter and the dumb get dumber. People always lie, cheat, and steal. The methods and settings change, but human nature is always there. I don't believe there is more cheating, it's simply easier. With ease comes more people doing it. An increase of youth obesity (in certain developed countries) is caused by much wider socioeconomic trends.Such as what? This isn't technology getting youth into trouble, this is the youth using technology to get into trouble. People are always going to steal and destroy. The internet is just another way to finish what Satan started. It is another way for youth to get into trouble. That was pretty much my point. My teacher isn't going to question whether or not it causes more people to get into trouble. Time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time. If you should be doing something else then it is. The first post contains a paragraph on that subject. Ownage new sig, by the way, and I'm not being sarcastic. :) I agree with the essay, it's too true (except for a few parts). Ya, I want to know who reported and who edited it.. I mean, it's just stupidity :-w . Saying that my quote (as I'm assuming they don't actually have anything against Fullmetal Alchemist or water, could be wrong) is offensive is in itself hilarious irony. To say that what one fundamentalist Christian said is "offensive" is itself acknowledging the fact that the Tip.it staff seems to find fundamentalist Christians idiots, which is proving and agreeing with my point and yet (at first glance) going against it at the same time. The irony is just hilarious :-w . If ya'll had just edited the quote and said "no religious stuff in sigs" I may have been okay with it I guess (though it's not really religious), but editing out the whole sig for thinking that people can be offensive to themselves, it's just hilarious, no other word for it. My pm box is waiting mods, but enough about me... let's get back on topic. I'm definitely one of them 8-) I train 5 days a week, 2-3 hours every day. And also I spend 4+ hours a day on the internet. I totally agree with your sayings. Today's youth has wide knowledge of technology. For example, in Estonia, in many families, parents just use the computer. If something is wrong with it, then their children are the ones, who have enough knowledge to repair it.
