i suppose its a risk worth taking, if you think about it, it would be btter to die in a black hole than to die from the effects of global warming, all because we [cabbaged] up the earth

Jesus Christ, Tigra! Just let him believe what he wants! He should have a right to his beliefs without someone questioning him with annoying Atheistic philosphy...<.<

Ive heard of it

its an atom smasher

The idea is that when two atoms collide they will smash releasing their subAtomic particles one of the particles (A gravatron) is belived to be capable of moving into higher dimentions Scientists hope to film a gravatron as it moves into a higher dimention.

We won't die from global warming, maybe in 100 something years we will but i will be dead then...

How compassionate of you...

Thats like the first watchers of the atomic bomb. "Wow. They're probably going to make wars with this or smash atoms together in a 100 years. Good thing I'll be dead."

How come I've got a feeling that smashing particles together is just as dangerous as splitting atoms? I doubt it will destroy the world but no were in these calculations does it say it wont severely [bleep] it up.

Dangerous as in sudden creation of massive energy dangerous?

If that's what you mean... Why not.

Atom smashers don't use enough particles to be dangerous. Basically, they use two, yep two, and smash them into one another. Atomic weapons use kilograms of particles in a chain reaction.

HUGE difference.

Very exciting project this one, can't wait to see what they'll find out. We know so much, and yet so much remains unknown.

I can't believe they even bothered to mention any chance of destroying the earth. It's such a small chance we're much more likely to be pounded by hundreds of meteors simultaneously in some freak occurrence.

It wouldn't be a black hole anyway, the primordial black holes that they might create would radiate mass so quickly that they would explode in a fraction of a second.

And antimatter is harmless, so it couldn't really be that. I think the sum total of all energy particle colliders have generated over their history is just about enough to light a small light bulb for a few minutes, we're talking miniscule amounts.

I think the physicists were maybe speculating that something unknown is discovered that turns out to be dangerous, but as I said, the possibility is pathetically slim.

It amazes me how we have devised tools to measure such incredibly small amounts of energy and particles that are released when two larger particles collide.

Particle physics amazes me full stop :P

thats cool i think there was something on like extreme engineering on discovery channel about that but lol a tiny chance of everyone dieing but how would we die? from one of these mini black hole?
