An extensive guide on Rock Crab killing - Reformated 25/8

Hey, this is my first guide, and given I̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ve been training solidly at Rock Crabs for the past week, i thought I̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢d write a guide on fast, effective killing and transportation to and from them.

Well, there aren't really many, but 30 attack and strength or higher will work best, as you can benefit from the potions, and it helps to prevent two appearing next to each other, making one run off as they both try to attack you. (Which i'll explain later).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

45 Mage, or a Camelot Telly Tablet will ease the trips.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

No quests are needed to get onto the Island, but if you have not done Fremmy Trials, you'll need to pay 1000gp to get taken to Waterbirth Island. (This covers the return cost if you do intend to return to Rekella).[/hide]

You may see some of the drops have white boxes around them, this is because, the Rock Crabs on Waterbirth rarely, or never, drop them. (I've killed over 15 000 Rock Crabs and never got any of them).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Points about the Rock Crab;

 

 

 

-They have a very high ratio, so they're extremely good to train on.

 

 

 

-They're agressive, so you don̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t need to pay much attention to this screen, provided you listen out for random events and watch life if you're 1 defence.

 

 

 

-Unlike Bandits, after twenty minutes they'll stop being agressive, meaning they'll no longer pop up and attack you. When this happens, you need to get a 'loading screen'. However, i have found just running back to the Boat you got off of and back again, will reset them to being aggressive, even if you do not see a 'Loading' screen.

 

 

 

-Even with 1 defence, they will very rarely hit you, so pures can benefit from this, just as much as any other player.[/hide]

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

[hide=Where are they?]

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

As you can see from the picture of the Rock Crab, there are two well known places to train on them;

 

 

 

- A little East of the City of Rekella

 

 

 

Or

 

 

 

- Waterbirth Island - (You want to come here).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Here is a map i have taken off the Runescape Site, and cropped it to show the path from Seers bank to The Ship in Rekella, which you want to take.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

This is the quickest path, i find, to get there;

Other ways of getting there even quicker include;

 

 

 

-Having a POH in Rekella, and using the House Teleport spell, or a House Telly Tablet. Then running to the Ship. (Shown in Red on the map)

 

 

 

-Using the enchanted lyre obtained from The Fremmy Trials, provided you have made a sacrifice, can teleport you to Rekella. Look here for help on the Lyre.

 

 

 

-Using the Mine Carts, to get from the Dwarfen Mine to Keldagim. The cart takes you from the Dwarfen Mine, near the Dwarf who sells pickaxes as you come in, and drops you off where is says 'Cart conductor' on this map. Then once off, run down the river, and talk the a someone and ask him to stake you to the Fremmy Province. Then, straight across then tunnel and you're a Rock Crabs. - Then to the Boat, across to Waterbirth, and hey presto.[/hide]

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

[hide=What to take.]

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

There are a few set up and inventories you could take depending on what kind of character you are, so I̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ll post the two most popular set ups.

 

 

 

This guide is assuming you do not have above 60 defence, so keep it in mind.

 

 

 

I have not done Fremmy Isles, or got Rune gloves yet.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Runepure/Bezerker Pure/Normal player.

For a Runepure/Bezerker pure/Normal player, you ought to use all the options available to max out your offence, while keeping a good defence.

 

 

 

Here is a list of items to use or substitute for, in order.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Fremmy Isle Helm > Zerker > Rune Full helmet.

 

 

 

Fury amulet > Glory > Power amulet.

 

 

 

Fighter torso > Rune plate > Rune chain.

 

 

 

Rune Legs > D hide legs > Addy legs.

 

 

 

Rune boots > Climbing boots > Snake skin boots.

 

 

 

Defender > Zammy book > Guthix book.

 

 

 

Whip >Scimi > Long > Warhammer.

 

 

 

Armour gloves > [bleep]ed Vamps > Regular vamps.

 

 

 

Bezerker ring > Warrior ring > Ring of Wealth.

 

 

 

Fire Cape > Achievement cape >Obby cape > God Cape

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

For a 1 defence pure, you need to max out your defence, while still keep offence high. As, i would guess, you'll be training strength, we'll compensate for some items using different ones.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Iron full helm > Iron med > Bronze full.

 

 

 

Fury > Strength Amulet > Glory.

 

 

 

Iron plate > Iron chain > Wizzy top.

 

 

 

D hide chaps > Iron legs > Leather legs.

 

 

 

Climbing boots > Leather > Coloured.

 

 

 

Zammy book > Guthix book > Sara Book.

 

 

 

Whip > Scimi > Long > Warhammer.

 

 

 

Mith gloves > [bleep]ed Vamps > Vamps

 

 

 

Bezeker ring > Warrior ring > Ring of Wealth

 

 

 

Fire Cape > Achievement Cape >Obby cape > God cape.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Obviously some people may find some things better than other, but this is just a short list of some alternatives.[/hide]

Now, this plan took me a very long time to make, and i have tried to make it a clear as possible, but believe me, it was not easy getting it to look like this. I will go through every attack stage in writing, but i hope the strip also helps.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

You'll see i have colour coded the three crabs to distinguish between them.

 

 

 

I'll call them; 'red', 'green' and 'blue'.

1) When you first reach the Island the Rock Crabs look like this.

 

 

 

To stop every single one popping up and trying to attack you, then wondering off and making you chase them down, you need to do it in a set order.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

2) Walk forward into Red, and it will pop up and attack you. Before hitting it, move into the position i have shown, 1 square south, and one square east of Green. This is so when you kill Red, Green will pop up and hit you, while Blue stays in place.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

3) Red is now killed, and Green will pop up and hit you. This is already shown.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

4) Green will now move into attack you, and be in place where Red was before. (Shown by the yellow line). You now need to move your character next to Blue, before killing Green, as shown by the White line.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

5) Green can now be killed, and as you can see, Blue will pop up and hit you. Now, there is no need to move any more.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

6) Just kill Blue now

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

7) Now Red will reappear to your left hand-side, pop up and hit you. Kill him like before.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

8) Then once Red is dead, Green is back in place, so he'll pop up and hit you. Once again, no need to move.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

9) Wee... And its back to Blue to get a good old killing again, with no need to move or do anything.[/hide]

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

[hide=What will effect this attack plan?]

 

 

 

Please note now, this plan will not always go this smoothly, and there are a number of factors than can influence this attack plan, and it can easily go wrong if you don̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t pay attention at the start.

 

 

 

- If you are a relatively low level, or you find it hard to kill one before two respawn, you'll find they'll both pop and try to attack you, meaning one will wonder off... I have no problem with this, and im only 60 strength. If you do find this happens, go to an empty world where the respawn time is longer.

 

 

 

- If you find you're killing them to quickly, and keep logging out, go to a busier world.

 

 

 

- If you have a Dragon Dagger, or a weapon with a good spec, i would advise you keep atleast one of them incase one Rock Crab does wonder of. You need to aim to kill it ASAP, and get back in line.

 

 

 

- People running past to go to Dagganoths of to pick up Snape Grass (this happened to me yesterday), will cause your Rock Crabs to try and attack them. Make you check often to make sure one hasn't wondered up to the hill, or to the West. If you find someone keeps running to pick up Snape Grass, meaning the Crabs often run off to follow him/her, i would advise you hop, as it can get very, very tedious and frustrating.

 

 

 

- If another player happens to log into the world you're in, and does not intend to hop (i like to call them arrogant, little...), then this will really mess up your training. Don̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t start a war-of-words with him, just ask him nicely to move, and if he doesn't, be mature and hop. I know its not essentially fair, but it will save alot of time and remove the risk of getting reported.[/hide]

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

[hide=How long will you last, and what xp are you looking at.]

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Well, in theory, if you're a regular player with 40+ defence, you can last forever, i would say. (Provided the random events are nice ones, and you don̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t take alot of damage).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

On an Xp base, I̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢d say, at 60 attack and 60 strength, with potions, you'd get about 50-65k xp an hour. This varies with spawn time, randoms, hits etc. As of course, as the potions wear off, the hit rate will most likely fall.

 

 

 

I've never really recorded the Xp, but I̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ve gone from 60-69 attack in about 4 days there, so it's a good place to train.[/hide]

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

[hide=What randoms to look out for.]

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Alot of people say, 'randoms are random, they're never the same', but that, to me, is very, very wrong.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In the last 2 days, i have had;

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

6 Evil Chickens

 

 

 

4 Plants

 

 

 

3 Security Guards

 

 

 

2 Mysterious old men boxes

 

 

 

1 Cap'n Hand

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

No Mimes, no mazes, no Camo ... Yet, in 1000 yew long alchs, i got full mine and 2 emotes... And 100 tellies, i got full Camo... As you can see, there is some difference depending on what you're doing.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

-I would say look out for the Evil Chicken the most, as it has fast, potent mage attacks, and if like me, you have 1 pray and wear metal armour, you can take some quite big damage. Take off your Plate, legs and helm, and just pump specs into it.

 

 

 

-Also, SET recoveries if you haven't. The Security Guard, well any random i guess, can really mess up the attack plan, and he comes often.

 

 

 

-I did hear a rumour that when training in places which require little attention, (rock crabs, bandits), you're more likely to get randoms which can kill you. So watch out.

 

 

 

-I'd say on average you get one about every 45-60 minutes.[/hide]

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

[hide=A few tricks and tips]

 

 

 

-If the Rock Crab happens to drop edible seaweed, make sure you pick it up. It is useful if you've just been attacked by an NPC, or are a one defence pure.

 

 

 

-Open caskets, as sometimes the gems can prove useful.

 

 

 

-Respect places. If you log in and see a player attacking them already, HOP. Do not snoop to a lower level to playing, just to save a few minutes.

 

 

 

-Remember, the amount of players in a world effects the respawn time. If a low level, go to an unpopulated world, if a high level, go to a populated world.

 

 

 

-Watch out to make sure you don̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t get force logged. As when you log back in, if they're still agressive, they'll all pop up and start hitting you. Which can mess up the attack plan.

 

 

 

-If you really mess up, just walk back to where it shows me standing in Picture 1, and wait for them all to respawn - Then start over.

 

 

 

-Potions really do help, so make sure you keep potted up so you can gain xp faster.

 

 

 

-You can buy regular Attack and Strength potions from the Warriors Guild, for a small fee, or buy them from other players. (I got 150 of each for 300ea) - Or, of course, make them.[/hide]

very good guide, maybe to extend it you could add experiments which are very similar to rock crabs. also i would say a zammy book would be better than a sara book because even on a pure they hardly hit, perhaps you could include things that improve prayer

Very nice for a first guide.

 

 

 

I would train at Waterbirth but the snow hurts my eyes so they end up like this :shock: after 2 minutes.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I plsay on low detail aswell, maybe it should only be on high detail.

Reason i didn't add Firecape and achievement cape is because most people those wouldn't tend to train at Rockies.

Very good guide. However, ive been killing Rock Crabs (as a ranger) with 1 Defence from 65-69 and i have not had to bank for food. I would say rather than putting so much emphasis on defence, you should go for all-out offence. (Strength Ammy>Fury, Fighter Torso>Rune plate etc etc).

And i've seen many rangers down there, and they seem to get hit often, i guess just not as often as the health regeneration :D

Never knew there were regular rock crabs on Waterbirth Island.Nice guide 8/10.Could be longer

How do you think I'd go with this armour (exp per hour) with 65 att 66 str 61 def?

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Wel, seeing as you'd never have to bank, and if you use Regular potions, i'd say 55-60k xpish

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

However, if you dont use pots, maybe 35-40kxp an hour.
