  1. Haven't bought any new gear in a while, just been making do with my Fenders and PodXT live. That said though, I'm considering getting one of these: An Epiphone Coronet. I think they stopped making them in the late 70's. The finish just gets sexier with time. Nothing will beat it for BritRock buzz.
  2. I'm a Bill Hicksist:  And Bill spoketh and said "Let there be psilocybin", and it was [really] good.
  3. I've gotta agree that that sounds pretty damn cool. Not if someone died of course, but they didn't. I'm not advocating pulling a gun on someone, I'm just saying it sounds cool as hell.
  4. I like the British drinking culture really. Of course it's really unhealthy, but I can't imagine it being any other way. I would love a 25 quid pub bill as well incidentally. Generally I get a carry out beforehand and still bomb more than that!
  5. Leon worked in the Gap at the town centre where I stay. Nice bloke, good on him I say. Few of my mates were with him down at the after party. I never bought into stuff like this before, but I think it's given everyone in my [cabbage]ty little town a bit of hope for their lives.

Just a quick post about a band I've been listening to a lot lately. Glasvegas is the name, a 4 piece from Glasgow. If I had to compare them to anyone it would be the likes of the Jesus and Mary Chain, Inspiral Carpets - All that lot. Basically it's post-punkish music with doo-wop style vocals sung in a thick Glasgow accent. They're one of the most genuine bands I've heard in a while and the lyrics capture the Scottish attitude perfectly I think (Go Square Go, Floo'ers and Fitba Tops). http://www.myspace.com/glasvegas If you only listen to one track, make it Daddy's Gone. I was just going to PM this to Daan really, but then I remembered someone around these parts likes The Jesus and Mary Chain, so this is for their benefit.
  7. Been to see them three times, they're incredible live. One of the gigs was outdoor and was by far the best. Something about Muse is very spacey, it's only fitting you should be looking at a night sky when listening to them.
  8. Yeah, I think I said this earlier in the thread. I still smoke it, just not to the same silly extent as before.
  9. I don't know really, just always found it pretty interesting. The reason I take some of the things I shouldn't nowadays is because I like experiencing the different effects on the brain and thinking, but I doubt that was going through my mind when I was younger. Most likely I was just a bored little kid who wanted to get wasted.
  10. There's a big difference between lights and regulars. They taste different and the smoke feels much thinner with the lights. Yeah I enjoy a cigar every now and then. Not that I've noticed. Long may it continue.
  11. Wow that sounds only too familiar :-w Familiar as in you can relate or familiar as in something you've heard over and over in psych classes?
  12. Where about were you? I stay in Glasgow now, about 2 mins from Sauchiehall street.
  13. Can't say it's ever happened to me. What difference did it make? I don't think anyone has ever tried to make me quit, and I don't get angry at people who dislike smoking either. What angers me is the 'smokers are lepers' attitude you get off some people. Something to do with receptors in the brain being dulled by the alcohol I think, not 100% on that though. The other reason is that I think I'm a rock'n'roll god when I'm drunk. :P This question has more or less been answered already. I don't know if you didn't pick up on it or you're just trying to be smart. No, my question hasn't been answered. Unless the answer is "I don't care that my body physically needs something that isn't necessary". I am asking the psychologically impact smoking cigarettes has had on you. I am not saying you are pathetic because you need cigarettes, but rather since it is a known fact that nicotine is addicting, doesn't that bother you at all? I drink and smoke weed, sometimes, but nothing is physically addicting and i would like to know what that is like. It really isn't that much of a smart-[wagon] question. Oke doke, my apologies I suppose. I still think the answer has been kind of implied through my attitude, but I'll give you a straight answer anyway. Being addicted to smoking doesn't bother me at all. I've got quite an addictive personality as well. I would say it's possible that I'm addicted to drinking and gambling as well - Mentally anyway. Only the gambling bothers me really.
  14. I don't remember ever being pressured to smoke, so either it was some crafty subliminal peer pressure, or I just felt like it. The majority of my friends are non-smokers.
  15. I think that anyone who wants marijuana can get it regardless of legality. But I suppose the answer to this question would involve a comparison of countries like Britain and the USA to Holland.
  16. Sort of, but I'm not ridiculous about it. I don't really worry about anything, not too concerned about the very long term future, and if I want to do something, I'll do it - As long as it won't upset someone 'innocent'. Not particularly, but thats not to say that I haven't met a lot of people while standing outside the pub having a cigarette. I don't think your scenario is very practical, because in my experience the temperature outside the bus stop is never much different from inside. But, if I understand you correctly, basically you're asking: "Which would you choose - Smoking inside and bothering a baby or young child, or waiting 20 minutes until the circumstances are better?" If this is the case, then I would just wait a little while. But like I said, not a very practical scenario. Let's pretend there's a foot of snow outside (the bus station has a roof) and there are benches inside... But let's say that you are stuck somewhere with a lot of people and you cannot leave (for some reason). Would you still smoke? Well in this highly unlikely scenario, I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't smoke. As a smoker, I don't think it would be my place to encourage or discourage anyone from picking up the habit I don't really understand cigarette smokers who don't inhale, obviously it's fine for cigars. It might be better for your lungs, but it just switches the risk to mouth cancer. I enjoy the smell of cigarette brands I like, Lambert and Butler especially. There are plenty of cigarettes I don't like the smell of. I don't know if there is any effective method of discouraging people from trying smoking, short of penalising them in taxes or medical bills. I don't smoke a hookah regularly, but have done on a few occasions. The smoke tends to feel a lot thicker, and whenever I've used it the tobacco has been flavoured.

  18. My aunt (who I never met) died of cancer, but I don't know if she was a smoker. And yes, my mum and brother still smoke.
  19. It's not something I ever think about - I'm kind of a 'live in the moment' type of person.
  20. Well, if I was still smoking at the time it would be pretty hypocritical of me to object. All I could do would be tell them the facts. Without having kids it's hard to say, but I can guess that I wouldn't like the fact that they smoked. If they were any younger than 16 I would probably play the age card, and tell them to stop until they were older.
  21. Yes, and yes. My lung capacity and general fitness levels have definitely taken a big hit over the years. Do you regret this fact? I was never very into sports other than a bit of 5 a side football (soccer) every now and again, so I don't really regret it. Obviously anyone who is passionate about playing a sport to the best of their ability should avoid smoking.
  22. I don't think I've encouraged smoking at all. In fact, I think I've been pretty unbiased, especially for someone who smokes. All I'm doing is answering any questions people have - Lots of which I haven't thought about myself. Smoking is an unhealthy habit, but it's not the worst thing you could do.
  23. Yes, and yes. My lung capacity and general fitness levels have definitely taken a big hit over the years. I don't even take notice of any of the anti-smoking campaigns anymore, but I don't resent their being there. I try my best to ensure that my smoking doesn't upset anyone else. As for marijuana, I'm not too fussed as to whether it is legalised, although I'm more in favour of it than not. I think as long as it's properly regulated and taxed it might well work out better. As far as I'm concerned, I'm far too young to be worrying about my life when I'm 60+. Also, like I said earlier, I might not smoke forever, so who knows what state my health will end up in. Don't worry, I'm not easily offended and your opinion is your own. I enjoy a cigar on 'special occasions' - Christmas, New Year and all that. I smoked a couple of cigars on holiday this year. I still smoke weed, just not as ridiculously as I did when I was younger. I've got more restraint now, and I know when and where to smoke it. I haven't noticed any negative influence on my sex life from smoking, but obviously girls who don't like smokers will be less keen if they see me smoking. But to be fair, I'm not that happy if someone won't give me a chance just because of a habit I have. I've been out with a few girls where I've promised not to smoke the first time we went out, just to give myself a bit of a chance. If I make a good impression then they're not too bothered about my smoking and we'll go out again. Obviously it can make your breath a bit funky, so I carry chewing gum everywhere, all the time. As for monetary problems, it's never really come up. I suppose this would be the most immediate factor that'd cause me to quit anytime soon. I'd rather drink and do other things than smoke, so smoking would be the first of my vices to go. Haha, no, I don't chain smoke. It would be difficult to make 10 cigarettes back to back last a whole day.
  24. I've never noticed any physical addiction symptoms per se, but after the length of time I've been smoking I would say it's impossible for me not to be addicted. I've never been 'dying for a cigarette', I don't think. I started smoking a few cigarettes a day in between joints... Maybe one or two, which turned into 10 a day, which is about what I smoke currently. I would say the process of 'taking up smoking' took around... Two months I suppose. I don't know if there are physical symptoms displayed for a nicotine craving, it's always just been thoughts like 'I'd quite enjoy a cigarette just now'. I can't remember a time when I was thinking 'I NEED A CIGARETTE RIGHT NOW!!!!'.
  25. Yes and no, I suppose. I don't regret starting at all. Not really sure how to answer this one, but it's not an absolute 'no'. Alright. In what circumstances do you wish it? Well, it's hard to say. All I meant really is that I would never say that I was 'glad' I started smoking, I just don't regret it either. After the booze, before the cigarettes. Yeah, there's a pretty big difference actually.
