  1. The Madden comparison is a poor one. Most global climate models are definitely more sophisticated and can accurately recreate the temperature fluctuations of the past century.
  2. Sorry if it came across as a little cryptic. What I mean is that understandably you're upset, but to compare faith in God or religion to faith in science is not a good argument.
  3. Making incorrect comparisons is no way to show your indignation.
  4. That's not how evolution works. I don't know if your example was the actual case, as that kind of evolutionary step would have been taken long before we reached anything like humans. Evolution by natural selection involves random mutations. If women were dying giving birth this way, they don't evolve, but maybe their kids would be born with a specific mutation that means they don't bleed to death when giving birth. A person or animal with this mutation is much more likely to survive and have more kids who will also carry and pass on this genetic mutation.

lol well done kid. Don't patronise me.
  6. whats worse is when it is taught in schools often the theory part is dropped off, and also cannot be proven using the scientific method, because you cannot recreate the so-called big bang Also how does your science explain this? Today I was feeling aweful like :-X aweful and I decided to go to church anyways, and they asked if anyone wanted to be healed (they rarely do, and you can't call it a coincidence) and when they prayed for me I went from feeling like I was poisoned to like hyper active  , please, tell me how your science explains that? don't call it a placebo because trust me, I seem to be unaffected to placebos People are only affected by placebos they believe will work.

Siggied :P \ The words "even" and "Tif" should be in bold :P It might be even better if we inserted the words "DaN is an idiot" into the sentence, and made those bold instead.
  8. The Big Bang theory is one of many theories about the origin of the universe, which it seems might be true. You can put a certain degree of faith in it (for lack of a better word) because if you feel like it, you can follow the logical steps. Science suggests what might be true, given the evidence we have. Religion reaches for the absurd, which is to know the mind of an omniscient god.
  9. Culture should never be allowed to be a disguise for the mistreatment of people. People are not critical enough of things like culture and religion. You say that culture can not be a disguise for mistreatment of people. For example say you were brought up in a world where anyone with blond hair should be killed. It is all you know. You have never been taught that it is wrong, you believe it is right. On the other hand, I was brought up without being taught that. I would believe that you were wrong. You would believe I was wrong. Our morals are shaped by our education. You can not say that the parents are to blame for doing something that they deemed to be right. We may believe it to be wrong, but they believe it to be right. Again, it is all they know, it is all they have been taught and grown up with. You can not blame someone for having a different education on what is right and wrong to you. I am sure now they wish that they had picked a better husband for their daughter, they tried to protect her with the contract, because they believed that it was the right thing to do. I believe it was the totally wrong thing to do, but I will not say force my own morals on anybody else. I made sure I did not blame the parents. They are a product of their culture, which is what I blamed. Forward thinkers will find it easy to blame this backward culture, as well they should. Sympathising will quaint traditions will never help to move us in the direction we need to go.

  11. Indeed. He invented it for the British queen I think. Romans had toilets that let you sit on top then water collected from a rain gutter would be washed through the sewer and through a tunnel to the river. I remember when I read about Mohenjo-Daro in school, best day in that class ever. That was interesting. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flush_toil ... n_timeline
  12. Common adolescent teenager  Irony is a beautiful thing. If it weren't a product of language, I'd vote that it was itself the greatest (or at least most beautiful) invention.
  13. It's "No More I Love Yous". Either the Annie Lennox version, or the original by The Lover Speaks.
  14. My two suggestions are in the same vein. The written word might not count as an invention, but is definitely the next peak in human progress after learning to talk. The printing press is another unbelievably important development.
  15. Um...What? :wall: You'd get it if you knew even a little about Douglas Adams.
  16. The only problem with trying to make a fight with a bully public is that chances are, if you're getting bullied, you aren't exactly that threatening. It might just end up embarrassing you if you throw some weak punch at him. :P Of course if you have the strength go for it. When I was in high school there was a guy who used to always get bullied. One day at lunch I was sitting in the cafeteria, and I turned around, saw the guy tap the bully on the shoulder to get his attention, and then he melted him in the face with a lunch tray. Not any kind of advice I would give, but still pretty damn cool for a little guy.
  17. I don't think the phone is a very good example. It's fair enough to say that it might be spoiling a child to give him a really expensive phone, but I don't think there's anything interesting about it. My dad wouldn't have got a mobile phone until he was around 35, does this say anything interesting about him? Of course not, it just says that the technology wasn't as readily available. The Paris Hilton argument is a little unfair as well. She is more or less a waste of space and time, but the problem isn't that she's there, it's that people like her. There's as many positive role models as there ever was, but the public eye rests squarely on idiots because that's what people seem to want to see.
  18. It was nothing more than a friendly tip, continue wasting your time as you see fit.
  19. I didn't expect that you'd believe in this stuff. You should really get over it. Tell me how exactly I'm supposed to get over it when I see it on a daily basis.. Educate yourself. I'm no psychologist and don't claim to be, but the fact that you're indulging this nonsense only makes you more likely to see it.
  20. People should spare each other the amateur psychology.
  21. I didn't expect that you'd believe in this stuff. You should really get over it. You don't sound like you've been reading his other posts... I've read his other posts in this thread, but up until that point I just naturally assume people don't believe in ghosts, no matter how off the wall their other opinions are.
  22. I didn't expect that you'd believe in this stuff. You should really get over it.
  23. No kidding, I really hope you didn't pay them.
  24. I don't know, I think he makes a legitimate point, and I have to say I do enjoy the "all guns blazing" attitude.
  25. Dye your hair black and go naked. Demi Moore costume.
