2011/12 Football Season
Allowing Meireles to leave would be catastrophic in my opinion. He was easily one Liverpool's best players last season.

I don't know about the OP's story but: There's been huge pressure on Social Services anyway without the media circus that surrounds these cases. Simply put, there isn't enough money, there aren't enough social workers (because it's a crap job on low pay with very little perks dealing with people who don't tend to appreciate your business), and because of reforms made during the Thatcher government, they receive very little support from the NHS. But yeah... it troubles me that the media has so much influence on public attitude and thus government policy, and by extension of that the day-to-day work of people who are paid to protect our children from abuse and neglect, and that the media in this country is dominated by one person living in the US whose subsidiary company is currently being alleged of phone hacking on the victims of terrorism. As character references go, it doesn't exactly scream out 'Let's save the children'.- Where are the all vets at?
FFS why are you talking about Saru when we should be talking about the good-for-nothing rip-off merchants who stick their hands up a cow's backside for a living and fake sympathy whenever someone's pet dog dies? You're all idiots. </troll>- Pokemon Thread
I know. That got me thinking though: If a Pokemon has 31 IVs in a given stat (effectively 15.5 at Lv50), would four EVs give the extra .5 needed for a whole point or do they not 'stack up' like that? Coz if they did then, assuming all Pokemon are 'perfect', 252/252/4 is still the best spread.- Officials, referees, and umpires
Like George Riley, the newsreader on Gabby Logan's 5Live show, I find myself awkwardly saying 'I don't want to bring it back to rugby, but...' He was recently invited by the FA to referee an academy game. Being primarily a rugby league journalist and an amateur footballer himself, he reflected on this experience and made a blog: Why football should follow rugby league. He talks about how 'fouls' in football aren't actually significant enough to the outcome of a game to deter players from committing them (indeed, the term 'cynical foul' implies they're actually rewarded, not punished), and how rugby league referees command more respect from players by talking more, to the point where players see them as colleagues as opposed to someone they need to 'win over' during a match. It's an interesting read as both a football and a rugby league fan. Furthermore I agree with the point about video technology; to me it's the prime example of how football thinks it's above its own station as a sport, in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary--an attitude sadly reflected with the recent FIFA corruption scandals.- Things that annoy the HELL out of you.
My housemates when they play FPS games online. When I ask them, 'Why do you play FPS games?' they reply with, 'We just do it because we want a fun time.' Then all I hear is, 'WHAT?! HOW THE [bleep] DID HE SHOOT ME FROM THERE?! OH GET A [bleep]ING LIFE!' for the next two hours. I... don't... understand this.- Pokemon Thread
I suppose mathematically the chances of needing that extra one HP are doubled in a Lv50 battle than a Lv100 battle since HP is essentially halved. In any case it only applies to WiFi which only about... I don't know... seven people in the whole world actually do honestly these days. My mate got owned by a Reshiram on WiFi the other day... that's how sad the level the sportsmanship is on there. "I used master on Reshi and now I pwnz u hurr durr!!1!" Anyways, I came on here to post this. You've probably all listened to it goodness knows how many times but, it's just a great bit of music as far as I'm concerned: [hide=Pokemon Black and White Music - Legendary Battle][/hide]- Things that annoy the HELL out of you.
We drive on the left hand side here, and I think New Zealand does as well if I'm not mistaken. Why doesn't the pedestrian just go across where the red and green arrows start? If you run you could easily outpace any car coming round the blind side.- Where in the World is Tip.it?
Couldn't help noticing you placed yourself next to Brisbane landfill. I mean if I were in Brisbane I'd definitely stick closer to the sea... or Lang Park... since there's plenty of landfill to enjoy in Preston... but to each his own I guess. :-P- International Criminal Court
* Severely. Hurr durr. Now I've called you out on that, it makes me an e-winnar right?- Pokemon Thread
Ye 50 i think 50 in Gen V, 100 in Gen IV. Hence why Pokemon in B/W should ideally be trained in EV increments of eight, not four (252 is not a multiple of eight, making 248/248/8 the new benchmark, leaving six useless EVs). TBH I don't bother with this though. So you lose that incredibly important one extra hitpoint. Oh no...- Census 2.0
A pie chart for this thread... hmm. 1) Draw three circles on MSPaint; 2) Use bucket tool on all of them; 3) Use eraser on a quarter of the second circle. Job done. TBH all this thread has shown is that, for all the decades of psychological research into what makes us 'unique' and 'different', we have many more similarities with each other than we do differences, and what differences we do have (religion) are more or less down to personal choice anyway.- Where in the World is Tip.it?

I agree - there's too many stickies, especially on the four OT boards. But we should discuss it on FU&S.- Where in the World is Tip.it?
I know a couple of Europeans who used to come OT but don't any more... I guess that's true for all regions though.- Where in the World is Tip.it?
I was the first person from the UK to fill this in at 9am. It's either proof that Brits have nothing to do on a Saturday morning now the football's in off-season, or proof I need to get a life...- Census 2.0
You mean the kind of theme Gene Roddenberry explores in the Star Trek series, where 'gods' are repeatedly exposed as frauds who make other races feel as though they are gods in order to maintain power? Because Gene was an atheist. No semi- about it. Also, interesting that more people have identified themselves as bisexual than completely homosexual. It would appear to validate the theory that sexuality is more like a spectrum, rather than simply "straight" and "not straight".- International Criminal Court
What the [bleep]. Leave Israel out of this unless you want to go back to here. His post was directed at the ICC. I'm not seeing the problem with it being posted here, it's hardly irrelevant. Seriously, if your style of arguing is just going to be 'Don't say [cabbage] about Israel' then you won't contribute very much to these discussions. You're surely not suggesting that if evidence was found to implicate members of the IDF in war crimes, that they shouldn't have a trial simply for the fact they're from Israel, are you?- Census 2.0
You'd fit in pretty well in most of the internet just by being atheist. To be honest I class myself as being more of a secular humanist but since humanism rejects the supernatural I guess that would also put me into the bracket of 'atheism'. The people who go around the 'net saying religious people are [developmentally delayed]s though, I want nothing to do with. I didn't happen to like the Transformers film but I'm not going to say anyone who did deserves shooting or something. I think they're the reason atheists feel so dirty about using the word to describe themselves, even though technically it's true that they are.- International Criminal Court
People migrate for a whole number of reasons, not just because location x is poorer than destination y. British universities are pretty much bankrolled by Chinese students who due to their foreign nationality have to pay about three times as much in tuition fees than anyone else. You'd be foolish to suggest the UK economy is better than China's. There are ex-pats from countries across the developed world who move to third world countries for a whole host of reasons. You can't simplify it to Egypt > Libya.- Census 2.0
Around 20, I'd reckon.- Census 2.0
I'm an atheist, heterosexual Caucasian. I'm guessing I'll fit in quite well here.- Common Clan Chat sticky?
I'm less happy about a sticky on the General Board (See: Stickyfarm - an overuse of stickies), more interested in a page on the main site. We have to remember a good chunk of Tip.It's users don't use the forum, so a sticky would not be beneficial to them, plus this would avoid the disorganisation and conflicts of interest which can sometimes blight these threads. - Stories of missing and abused youth
