  1. I'd hate to die old, or in a residential home. I dunno... I have a very idealistic vision of the world, and very strong opinions of what I think is right and wrong, and I seek activities that best fit that image. I guess my main motivation in life is to make the society I live in a better one. That's why I joined medical school - it's certainly not the reason I left it - and that's why I want to work in health and social care when I'm older, hopefully something to do with mental health care. So long as I can afford a modest quality of life, I really don't care about money, houses or cars. Seeing the impact my work has on other people is reward in itself. Since we all have to work, I guess that's the main reason I live for.
  2. People I game with in real life. Obviously I don't hate them, or even gaming with them, but whenever we lose online. Instead of accepting that their team > our team, it's because the people on the other team have no friends, or used nooby tactics, or it's because the game's broke and Bungie should put in X, Y and Z to balance it out. Armor lock is the big one, but shotgun gets a few moans too. You know they've got a [bleep]ing shotgun and, because it's Sword Base, they're probably hiding at the top of the elevator, but if you want to run in with an Assault Rifle without even bothering to throw some frags in at least, and then you want to whine about your [developmentally delayed] tactics afterwards, go whine somewhere else. I guess it's what the SSB community would call 'Johning', and it's probably the most damn annoying thing I have ever experienced in gaming.

Aww... I'm not being cynical. I'm just saying had I put myself through all that, and camped when I needed to camp rather than getting bored and choosing to play on the Wii and the Xbox instead, I'd be higher up in Nenga's estimations right now. Which would mean a lot to me.

You're right, I shouldn't have quit. For too long, RPGs have limited themselves to being fun and interesting. If these games aren't for you, why not try the Click-and-Wait minigame? Just click on a fishing spot once, wait the best part of ten minutes for your inventory to fill, and bank all the fish. Do this a few thousand times, and you'll receive a special, one-of-a-kind cape that only 52,370 other people have. And if that's not challenging enough for you, then try getting 99 in the other 24 skills the game has to offer. Only 1146 people have ever done this before - your road to Internet fame beckons! If skills aren't complicated enough for you, then how about RuneScape's advanced combat system? Just click on another player, hope their combat level is close enough to yours, and the game will randomly flash red numbers up. If you find you're running low on hitpoints, simply click on one of the many fish you gained before, and you'll recover some. When your luck runs out, and you die, you'll respawn knowing the other guy's polite tone and friendly gaming spirit made the experience all the more enjoyable. You'll have so much fun testing your skills to the max with RuneScape's advanced combat system! All this, for only £3.20 a month.
  5. Can you stop being so good at this, please? Noob.
  6. It depends on the person, surely. I know girls who had their first periods at 16 and their doctors haven't seen that as unusual, so I don't really buy into the 13-year old claim at all really. Moreover, there's a difference between being sexually matured and psychologically matured. There are kids who have conceived at 11 years old. OK, that link is to an alledged rape, but if we ignore the legalities and say she gave consent without having the authority to do so, is that being both sexually and psychologically mature?
  7. Well, to me it's obvious they'll do it in alphabetical order. Not least because it would seem easier for them to make it as well as for us to find our names (well, not me because I didn't vote for it). But what do I know about running a multi-million pound games company? Exactly.
  8. Being pushed hard by the Netherlands? Oh dear lord...
  9. Your musical compatibility with jaseFX is Very Low Music you have in common includes Soulja Boy, Pendulum, Kanye West, Rihanna and Linkin Park. 1) Travis Barker drum remix 2) One song, Propane Nightmares 3) "dun act lik a neva tol ya!" 4) Pretty good, to be fair. I love SOS, even if she ripped off Soft Cell. 5) Yeah, they're alright. ...And I would have free subscription if Last.fm were available on BlackBerry. <_<
  10. Get 'em checked in straight away. They're on the slippery slope to addiction apparently. Ahh, argumentum ad hominem. Well at least according to Paul Graham's Hierachy of Disagreement, now I know you've got nothing meaningful to say. OK then. Kids know chocolate exists. People can become addicted to chocolate. Clearly it's the knowing of chocolate that leads to addiction, in your schema. Let's ban the chocolate from sweet shops. Is this a poor comparison too? I'm 21 next month, so obviously a teenager, but not that it matters anyway. It's still more ad hominem. No no, the basic foundation of logic is quite simple, you see. You make a claim, you provide evidence to back it up. If someone disagrees with you because no evidence has been presented, that's your problem; I don't need to come up with my evidence unless I'm making a different assertion, which I haven't. I've simply denied the premise of your assertion. I worked on Tip.It for over a year in a role that involved finding facts about in-game content and updating the website accordingly. In addition to that I've also worked on Wikipedia for near four years, and in that time had an article pass a Good Article Nomination which is described as being "factually accurate and verifiable", "contains no original research" as well as "approaching the quality of a professional encyclopedia". Don't even bother trying to go down the 'You never back up what you say' attack - I've got four years voluntary experience and the achievements to boot that tell me otherwise, thanks. So far, all you've done is provide evidence that addiction exists. Congratulations, except I never questioned that bit. This doesn't explain why card games shouldn't be taught to kids, because you've not made a link between the process of learning, and the process of addiction. And that has... what to do with this thread? I suppose Alexa also plucked said demographics out of thin air? So far, only one of has tried to evade every question that's been asked of him. I've no problem with people having opinions - again, a strawman argument. Opinions are exactly that though - opinions, and they can be wrong until proven as fact. So far, you've not proved yours right, you've just assumed that because you have a kid and I don't, that you are right and I am wrong.
  11. Oh, sweet guys. Person comes up asking for a game on a forum concerned with video games and you treat them like a homeless beggar. Looooovely. That said, I... don't even know what CityVille is.

We dissected a lamb's heart. You could wear the aorta as a ring on your ruby finger. ...Yeah, I was being really mature at the time. That whole 'this is a dead baby lamb' thing didn't really hit home.
  13. Works both ways. If you're going to use a friendship as the basis for a more intimate relationship, then be aware that the friendship itself comes under most strain when cracks start to appear in that relationship, and that breaking up is even more stressful because you both have a heartfelt interest not to hurt each other's feelings, which unfortunately is impossible due to the nature of the process. Being part of the friend zone is basically the other person saying, "I don't want to risk putting us through that experience because I value what we have too much to let us." But yeah, at least the emotional side of things are more secure.
  14. Ding ding ding - It's another General Discussion strawman argument! You guys should get a community ribbon or something, or at least make a career out of it working for Fox News. I never denied that under 18 year olds could become addicted to gambling, all I asked for was some proof that the simple process of learning how to play a card game is in anyway associated with thinking that the next bet's going to be the one that makes all the other losing bets count for something. Your argument is tantamount to saying, "Under 18 year olds suffer from depression. Kids are taught about depression through mental health awareness in the National Curriculum. The National Curriculum causes adolescent depression." I'm afraid until you learn the basic tenets of statistical logic, you're not going to convince anyone in this thread of your as-yet baseless pseudo-scientific claims, least of all me. Except of course, why bother with burdening ourselves with finding proof, when you're coming out with little gems like this: Oh I get it. Why didn't you tell us this sooner - we could've saved ourselves much time. You're right because you think you are right. Gotcha.
  15. Manage Thy Kingdom Manage thy Kingdom is a RuneScape minigame where you make money by using your financial capital to take items from producers on the islands of Miscellania and Etceteria for a lower price (in form of a wage) than you intend to sell it for at market. Essentially, it's making money for no effort whatsoever, whilst the workers themselves don't improve their previous economic position such that they no longer need to work, and can be compared to the The Great Money Trick, as described in The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists. Alternatively, for those not interested in political economics, it's an easy 100K (at least) a day made by putting ten workers on maples and the rest on herb, and making sure to keep at least 750K, preferably much more, in the treasury every day.

Oh come now, this is just ignorance. You've never heard of a cult of personality? Stalin could have claimed to have invented several things he could not possibly have invented and the Soviet population wouldn't have questioned his authority to make those claims. Looks strangely like how state religion is organised to me, in terms of how it inspires commitment to a 'higher power'. Just take away the holy books, replace it with state-owned mass media and you're half way there. It might not be 'god', but they didn't exactly treat Stalin like an ordinary mortal did they?
  17. But... what really matters is helping others, Rob. I usually just load the Last.fm scrobbler and browse the sports news. Keeps me entertained for half an hour or so.
  18. gl going through 1M+ names Unless he's this woman, I don't think he needs luck.
  19. The whole game boils down to finding the most efficient (and no doubt, the most boring and stale) way of getting skillcapes, showing off to your mates, obtaining a fluttery feeling in your stomach which signifies some pride in an achievement hard worked for, finding that said feeling lasts for about seven seconds, and then finding another 99 to accomplish to get that feeling again. I realise that's a very generalised viewpoint, and a controversial one. Not that that really matters in truth, since the thread asks for what *I* find most annoying. Oh wait, I forgot. "It's an MMORPG" seems to be all the rage in strawman arguments these days. Silly me.
  20. -Snipped image- That was possibly the most meaningful post I have ever seen in four and a half years of being here. Nice one
  21. It's probably the most linear RPG I've ever played. And I've played Luminous Arc.
  22. Then take out beer, take out violence, take out the deliberately getting NPCs in-game drunk. After all, they might learn how to become alcoholics, sociopaths and date rapists respectively. I'm sorry, but your opinion isn't justification in itself. Prove that there is any connection with someone learning how to play poker, and them becoming compusively addicted to the point of losing thousands on the habit, and prove that this association works both ways (i.e., people participating in gambling-related activities in a virtual environment are more likely to become gambling addicts in reality, and that people who became addicted through "real life" gambling are more likely to seek gambling-related activities when put in a virtual environment). Or is asking for scientific proof not fair?
  23. Stress can affect the menstrual cycle and it can manifest itself in feelings of pain and discomfort, so it's a possibility. Truth is, none of us can perform tests to know what's happening inside of her; a nurse can. If she's having these cramps because of stress in her personal life, and she thinks there's a possibility of pregnancy, it would probably help her to go and see a nurse to find out what's happening, and also just to have someone to talk to. It would probably help her to talk to someone who isn't involved in the situation.
  24. Ermm... there is a whole mini quest dedicated to alcohol misuse, yet it's far from harmful; 12% of all Americans will suffer from some form of alcohol dependence at some point during their lives. The reason recreational drugs aren't available in RS is because of their legal status in just about every country the company has operations in. But don't deny that there is already virtual exposure to harmful drugs in the game.
