The Offical TIF American Elections thread
Ideologically, if the impression you are getting is that I'm against laissez-faire capitalism, for the very situation we are in, then yes, that is the correct impression you are receiving. I assure you, Condoleezza Rice coming on British TV and telling us there is no alternative to laissez-faire capitalism was equally as irksome. As for the deal, I'm not particularly overjoyed with the deal on the table. If I was American, I wouldn't be happy about bailing the banks when their bosses earned bucket-loads in the first place for a "good job". The Democrats are trying to do what's right - make sure this money isn't going to those who put us into this mess in the first place, and make sure regulation is in place to prevent it happening again. For all your pro-Americanism, you seem ironically hostile when it's the Democrats - not the Republicans - who are doing what's right for the country. His attendance was (is) quite clearly a disturbance. Instead of making the discussion purely about economics, it's also brought the baggage from the presidential election. His behaviour over the whole thing reeks of desperation given his position in the race, and frankly, there are Republicans saying the same thing. For the matter, these talks had been going on for days before McCain decided to honourably drop his campaign. The extent to which McCain can offer his expertise is also questionable. Finally, he said he'll drop his campaign until a deal is sorted. A deal hadn't been sorted by last night, when he decided to attend the debate, had it? If that's not continuing your campaign, I don't know what is. He's a liar, and he's desperate. Take away all the ideological differences between him and Obama, and he's already unsuitable to be the most powerful man in the world.

Fixed. You sound like a broken record or a socialist spouting rhetoric. Capitalism works just fine, but it does need regulation. The current US administration believes in low taxes, high spending, and a laissez-faire policy for many things with subsidiaries for "friends." None of that is economically smart and makes you wonder what the US population was thinking these past 8 years... The fact I mentioned the word capitalism doesn't make it some piece of socialist propaganda. I stated a fact, not an opinion. This is the worst crisis in a capitalist economy for 70 years. It's not my fault that touches a nerve with some people.

the playstation 4, super wii and xbox 720
We're about a good four/five years off the next generation, but yeah... Anyways, if Nintendo develop a new console, I doubt it will be a continuation of the Wii. Continuing the SNES with the N64 and NGC didn't bring them much success.. They're best when they're pushing the boundaries, so I expect that's exactly what they'll do next generation. Secondly, the Wii doesn't need to "up its graphics". They're fine. They're just not as good as XBox's or PS's. That doesn't make them terrible.

Well, people who believe McCain is the way forward for America in the next four years.

Let's not get too obsessed with the debate. I think most here would agree it was a total waste of time, given the poor moderation and lack of clarity between the two candidates. Instead, let's look at actions. Let's look at the fact we are facing the worst failure of capitalism in 70 years, the US government and Congress are on the verge of breaking a deal, and suddenly McCain comes to town and it's all disrupted again. You guys seriously think he is the man to guide you through testing times when he's shown himself to be this reckless in the face of electoral defeat?

Could be for two reasons: A) It calls all Pikmin back to his side, just like it did in the Pikmin series. This can be useful for stopping unnecessary Pikmin deaths. B) When used, the order (by colour) of Pikmin changes. The front group goes to the back, and the next in-line moves forward, like it did in Pikmin where you moved the D-pad as Olimar held a Pikmin. This is useful because you can switch to white Pikmin for long-range throwing (they go further, along with yellows), or purple Pikmin for a kill (they knock people flying instead of latching on).

PETA wants Ben & Jerrys to use human breast milk
It's not so much this is a ridiculous suggestion to make, it's just plainly illogical too. If the rationale is that animals should be treat ethically (re: equally) to humans, then why bother having ice cream at all? If they're gonna condemn us for using a cow's milk, then they should logically also condemn us for drinking human milk, because what they're really arguing is that gaining milk from anything is wrong since it involves a degree of "suffering", so we should just ban all dairy products. That's right, it's PETA - putting the emotional wellbeing of a cow before the nutritional wellbeing of a human baby. On PETA as a whole, I like it when they try and send me on a guilt trip with their T-shirts. They make you think "Would you really kill a pig?" with some soppy picture, and I think, "Err... yeah. It's bacon!".

Psychology Myths
Do you mean psychology as a whole or just this article? The title does make me laugh a bit though - "pseudo-Psychology". Psychology itself may as well be a "pseudo-science" it's that vague.

His grabs are crazy. He flings a little white Pikmin at you and it somehow manages to pull DeDeDe towards his six inch-high body. His projectiles are too good. You can't approach him from the ground and you can't really camp. Good job I've got Zairs. ;) And yes, stay away from the edge. Edgeguarding an Olimar makes my day.

In what way? Where on Earth did this "Democratic Capitalism" come from? It seems to be a term coined overnight by a President who's desperate to give himself some credibility. Capitalism is most certainly not the most efficient form of economy. I do not support the concept of splitting everything up to create competition on the notion that state-run companies are less efficient than privatised companies (which I don't necessarily agree with anyway), letting them do whatever they want so long as they're making us richer, and then whining every ten years because we didn't put regulation in place to ensure their greed didn't extend themselves and put all our financial stability into danger. For the matter, Bush's recovery plan will do nothing for capitalism either. It's effectively socialism, buying up big banks and making the public the biggest shareholder. Only, there's one difference between Marxist socialism and this one - the state money here is going to the rich, the very people who irresponsibly led our economies and earned billions in bonuses for it. If anything, it should be them paying for this recovery with the gross amount of bonuses they 'earned', not those of us who have to work to afford to pay a mortgage, or pay bills, or even put food on the table. My preferred solution would be socialism, which contrary to snipersas' belief, has been tried successfully in many cases. Even those who champion capitalism have to look at this system and take a long hard think, because as it is, it's hopelessly unstable. No it's not. Its economy is shrinking, but it's not technical recession... yet.

I hate it when people show that they have no idea whatsoever how this bailout is to work - it is like a fed loan, costing the goverment little or nothing - the money is spawned in a computer somewhere; loaned to the banks to ensure liquidity and solvency and is then repaid to the government where it is destroyed to prevent inflation. Despite the big "700 BILLION DOLLAR BAILOUT" headlines the news has been using to sell papers, the actual total cost is minimal. Meant being the operative word there. Shares are still falling in the western stock markets. There will be a recession anyway. It's delaying the inevitable, at the cost of possibly trillions to the US taxpayer. At least McCain can see capitalism for what it is - a greedy system which sows the seeds of its own destruction. What? They are polling even, or rather with Obama about 2 points ahead in a poll with a margin of error of 2 points. No, Obama was about 5pts ahead with a 2pt error of margin. OK, well let's remove intent to supply laws with drugs. Let's remove anti-sexism laws for employment. Let's remove manslaughter - murder is murder is murder. Seriously, you'd have to be pretty stupid to suggest motive has no bearing on a crime's severity. Well, you say that as though it's instantly a bad thing because it costs people money. Your system is hopelessly ineffective. You're the richest country in the world, yet you're ranked 72nd in the world for healthcare. Do you honestly see that as acceptable? For the matter, Europe is not half as socialist as you would like to think, and fear. France, which is ranked top, only provides free treatment for chronic diseases. The NHS does not employ each and every doctor across the land, nor does it own every hospital and certainly does not pay for each and every drug. People are still free to pay for private health care if they so choose. Brutal taxes are not nearly as brutal when someone in a poor family suffers from a terminal illness, and receives no support because the rest of us can't be bothered to pay taxes to ensure everyone receives a decent level of care. Perhaps this is coup de grace on this debate - the vast majority in the UK, including the rich, support the founding principles of the NHS.

They've not fed you lies, they've just given you an incredibly warped view of the world instead. Firstly, you are aware socialism is an economic model, while democracy is a governmental model, aren't you? Unless you're saying I live in a totalitarian state, simply because I have the NHS. Secondly, the "lipstick on a pig" comment was also used by McCain himself! Finally, Obama supports taxing the upper classes more, not the middle classes. It's called progressive taxation, which has nothing to do with socialism. He supports the concept that the middle and lower classes should receive more state support, not simply be taxed more in the middle class' case.

Starting to Smoke
True but I get pretty angry when people are boo hooing about stress and depression when its just a case of simple teenage angst. Everyone has lots of schoolwork, everyone has parents that worry about them. Wait til you grow up and have some real responsibilities and have a job and a mortgage and then look back at your school years and if you can truely and honetly say you were streessed or depressed then i shall buy you a cookie. Teenagers suffer from emotional stress rather than physical or mental stress on the actual body. It's a confusing time as they start to develop. I'm not suggesting alcohol, or smoking is an solution, but to say teenagers don't suffer from stress is ignorant to say the very least, unless you're the type who likes living twenty years in the past. For the matter, there is no one type of "depression", at least not clinically. There is a special form of depression used to diagnose some teenagers for that exact reason.

Which is obviously why Brawl's competitive community is equal, if not larger, in size to Melee's? M2K still plays Brawl and Melee at the same time. He's widely regarded the most technical player on the circuit, yet he feels Brawl is still competitive enough for him. I'm not saying one player equals a rule, but at the moment it's too early to make any sort of judgement like that. Moreover, I regard this debate utterly futile. Those who like Brawl will play Brawl; those who like Melee will continue with the MLG circuit, and the various mixed tournaments (Brawl and Melee) organised through SWF. I understand most of those perfectly well, and there is hitstun, which if you'd have bothered to follow up on Brawl instead of packing it in as soon as you got bored, you'd actually know. Frame data's now coming out which shows hitstun. Quite possibly the most unobjective fact I have ever heard of. If something is yet to be determined, how can one conclude a fact from it?

I love ignorance (actually no, I hate it). Illegal immigrants do not generally come over to another country to simply "mooch" off its taxpayers. Yes, there are a bunch who do, but the majority of them genuinely seek to make use of the opportunities that lie in that country. We should be thankful people want to work for our country in order to fuel economic expansion, which in turn should improve the quality of life for everyone. This is even more so in America, where the issue of illegal immigrants coming over for universal health care is a non-issue. We have an unemployment statistic (in the UK) of 1.7 million. That's not high by any stretch of the imagination, but it's still 1.7 million people that should receive priority (or a good kick up the backside) for work before giving work to those who have entered this country illegally. It is therefore right to give them a path to citizenship where appropriate, while jobs are being filled by people who have legal right to be here. The only (and I mean only) concern I have with that system is that it effectively awards illegal behaviour - in my honest opinion, this should be noted on their criminal record when citizenship is achieved for future reference, in case they fall foul of the law again.

Yeah I know. A minority voted for Bush. I was illustrating the point that Obama's "pulling power" is generally better than McCain's at the moment, in terms of voters.

Hey, if he wants to do that, let him. He's being damaged from his affiliation with the Republicans over the whole crisis anyway. He needs to be on the attack, and reinforcing the idea he's not more of the same. Obama's a good 4pts ahead right now according to the BBC's poll sources. I'd settle for that.

Uses for change...
If it's just a penny or two I'm gonna be getting, I just tell 'em to put it in whatever charity collection thing they've got. I remember, when I was in Paris, giving money to one for Lebanon. I think it was during the Israel-Lebanon conflict too.
