FTL - Faster Than Light
The lack of decent combatants on the Engi ship, after entering a Mantis area in Sector 2 with no opportunity to recruit, left me feeling very frustrated.

"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice
I think in the context of human relationships in general, not just sexual ones... arrogance is not as bad as people make out. Arrogance ultimately is a form of confidence, the only difference being that the confidence itself is unfounded or prone to fallibility, or otherwise so grotesquely out of proportion as to make the arrogance seem ridiculous (hubris). But it does still indicate that the person believes in their own ability and that they won't want to be dependent on somebody else (i.e. you). Let's say I had to invest £100, or twenty hours of my time with someone. I'd pick someone who's arrogant all day everyday over someone who thinks they can't do anything right. If I was wanting to get into a committed relationship with and share my life with somebody, the same principle would generally apply.

"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice
Online dating is a much easier way of doing things, I agree, so I can't suggest another way. I was speaking from the perspective of someone who isn't terribly bothered about whether they're in a relationship/successful at dating, or not. But the success rates you have are pretty admirable, don't get me wrong, and it's nice of you to share those experiences here.

Why Do People Judge RS So Much Differently Than Other Video Games?
Oh, yes, of course.... the reason I'm so critical of RuneScape couldn't possibly be an informed opinion... it's because I have no experience of playing the game! I have enough experience of it and I still think it's a poor game which relies far, far, far too much on grind-festing. I'm sorry, the quoted statement doesn't stand as an argument in itself.

This all sounds like too much effort to me.

Why Do People Judge RS So Much Differently Than Other Video Games?
While I was mostly using CoD just for a comparison about the wasteful use of time, I can see why you could say CoD would take more "skill" to play versus clicking endlessly on RS, but at the end of the day that skill is worthless and was devolved only because you had spent countless hours playing XBOX which is just as much of a wasteful way to spend your time as Runescape.Yes, the skills needed to play Xbox games are also worthless within the much greater context of 'life'. Gaming generally is worthless regardless of what game you play. But apart from that I feel you've really missed my point. I'm a gamer. I'm a pretty competitive gamer and, if we're not bothered about showing false modesty, I'm actually quite good at gaming. A game is a challenge; as a gamer, I don't just want to be challenged, I need to be challenged. I don't play CoD, but I'm more of a Halo player. When I play a multiplayer game of Halo online, I'm being challenged, by other gamers, to score 'kills' against them as much as I can without being killed myself. Ultimately, how successful I am, and my teammates are, at that task will decide whether we achieve the ultimate goal of winning that match. A Halo: Reach game, when it's on the well balanced playlists, is a challenge to see which team of players possess more skill. I don't get that from RuneScape. Like I said, (some) minigames and Dungeoneering are different because your character's performance is indirectly relative to your own personal skill, but generally most people can play RuneScape as well as each other, it's simply a matter of time before people eventually reach certain milestones like 99s, quest capes etc. I personally therefore fail to see RuneScape as a challenge at all and, hence, I find it a very poor experience from a purely gaming perspective.

Why Do People Judge RS So Much Differently Than Other Video Games?
OK, you want my honest opinion, then let me level with you. Two things: 1) RuneScape is not skill-based (which is ironic, given you spend your whole RS life training 'skills'). With the exception of some minigames and Dungeoneering, it's a time ∝ XP equation which applies to all people. Pretty much everyone can chop wood, burn logs and smelt gold as fast as everyone else. CoD, on the other hand, is most definitely skill-based. Before you accuse me of being a CoD fanboy, I can't stand CoD, but I can see it for what it is. 2) "Personally I would agree with the argument that sure there are much better ways all of us could invest our free time (Volunteering, Community Service, Habitat for Humanity type activities)"--my job and my voluntary commitments on top of that were pretty much the reason I had no time for RS any more. I saw what I could putting my real skills towards in the real world and what change I could make with them, and thought 'What a great shame I wasted these skills on RuneScape for all those years.' Now that I've gone to university, and I'm still doing those voluntary commitments, and my situation's pretty much the same.

It will still jump towards the base even if you defeat it. The "You've bought some time" comment is actually pretty misleading... if there's only one jump left before you tackle the first or second stages, you cannot destroy it in time. That's one of the reasons why it's better to tackle it sooner rather than later, the second main one being the availability of repair stations lessening as the rebels take over the sector.

No... you're right, blast doors fully upgraded are a must. When I finished the game on Easy I had enough scrap to "protect" systems like O2, Med and Drones, it's definitely a good idea. Losing your Defence drone against a ship with rockets is a real killer and makes a small problem much more serious. I need to learn about all the events and how to deal with them. Haven't had time to research it properly.

I always keep an Engi in the pilot room too, with one of the humans you start with actually doing the piloting. If your pilot subsystem goes out, you're relying completely on the shields. Given you can boost evasion up to 55% without cloak, it's really not to be sniffed at. Bottom line is: it needs fixing, fast. Plus you need to boost engines up to get it that far, meaning if you're really in dire straights (like if the Rebels have caught up and you have to get raped by a cruiser) you can just FTL jump away from it more quickly than you would otherwise with a bad engine. On the FTL wikia's page on 'Piloting', in the comments section... there's a guy who recommends boosting O2 supply at the expense of piloting... There's either some genius reason behind that, or it's the best lol I've had in a while.

The American Football thread
It's true, he really did keep the Steelers alive during the first half. That they went into the locker room ten ahead with the Eagles having nothing on the board was a gift when you looked at the stats at that point in the game. Turnovers at key moments. Serious questions for Green Bay too. Losing record after Week 5... not many predicted that.

Things that annoy the HELL out of you.
My other flat on my floor in my halls. They were having a party and making noise 'til 5am last night, and I'm not sure how I should feel about it. On the one hand, it's a Saturday night, it's barely a week after Freshers ended, and they're doing it in their own flat and not smashing anything up. On the other, I've got a bad cold, I need sleep, their music is clearly audible through three thick walls, this isn't the first time it's happened, and it's stupidly late.

"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice
Having interests which hold some personal meaning, and being outgoing are things I think help make you attractive to other people in general. There's nothing worse than trying to get to know a hollow shell of a person, who has no ambition and no drive about them and would rather keep all their interests and feelings to themselves. I think people also mistake "outgoing" for "extrovert", or "chatty". You can be a quiet person and still be outgoing, and still make an effort to talk to people, and still be very well liked for it. If you are the quiet type, though, avoid the trap of turning yourself into a wallflower. There are times to be quiet, and times not to be, just as there are times for louder people to stay silent.

Things that annoy the HELL out of you.
The crotch is one of the worst places, actually. It's dark (assuming you don't go outside naked), and it's also quite moist because of sweat. Just lovely for all sorts of transient, disease-causing microbes to thrive in. Not to mention there's other things that get 'caught' in the creases, which I'll put in hide tags for the less tolerant members of the forum: [hide=Not nice stuff]Faecal matter, dead cells, pubic hairs and semen, for example.[/hide] So you go to the toilet, you don't wash your hands--or, as I originally said, the place doesn't even give you the facilities to wash your hands properly--and then you go and shake hands with someone you're meeting, cuddle up to your loved ones, prepare food etc., and you've just covered your hands in all that stuff, plus the microbes, and now it's all over them too. And then they'll go eat something with those same hands. It really is that disgusting.

People who emphasise almost every word and sentence they say. When you do that, you're not adding emphasis to anything and you're clouding the message with hyperbole. I don't know why it annoys me so much... maybe because it makes it hard to pick out the point they're trying to make... or maybe because it makes me feel as though they're out of touch, getting really worked up about things which, actually, are quite trivial and part of everyday life.

But everyone who pushed the button already washed their hands. Come on, we've both been in the men's room. They briefly swipe their hands under the tap, which amounts to naff all really.

Things that annoy the HELL out of you.
Public toilets which lack paper towels, or only have the air dryers where you have to press the button to start it. You may as well not wash your hands at all because you're either a) not drying them, or b) picking up all the microbes from the button before drying again.

What makes a web video great?
I would say sound. An example I would use is a presentation. You can have the best looking slides in the world, but if you present it badly and you don't know how to project your voice to the audience, or how to emphasise key points using your voice, then the presentation falls flat. Likewise, when you're at school. You'd always prefer a teacher who's animated and clearly broadcasts how passionate he/she is about the subject, rather than someone who presents in a very didactic, monotonous style. What's in the textbook and or what's on the board, I find is more of a distraction than anything else. I think our ears are more sensitive to those subtle differences.

"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice
There's more than enough websites and self-help books out there for people to look for advice on dating. To be perfectly honest, I'm better at getting people to see problems in relationships rather than getting them in one.

2012 U.S. Elections - President Obama Re-elected
I'm not sure about lying, but I know Obama supporters are saying he appeared hesitant because, when you're the one in charge, you can't promise everything under the sun, and you need to be more considered. Even if that's wise, it still means he lost the debate. New York couldn't decide between the two; take that swing nationwide, and Romney won. Whether it affects the polls is another thing.
