Why PC Gaming Sucks
People actually pay for those? I have like... 4 free Win7 keys. By that token I could just steal a home console instead. It costs literally zero if done correctly, making this a very facile debate indeed. Let's just assume that, y'know, people actually pay for the OS.

Things that annoy the HELL out of you.
Hunting natures/IVs or grinding EVs on a standard playthrough of Pokemon is way overkill, lol. The games are too easy for that. I like the "Like" feature. It's similar to a normal conversation where you nod or hum in agreeance. Sometimes you just don't have anything to add to the point.

2012 U.S. Elections - President Obama Re-elected
Somewhat ironic. You still haven't recognised how it's your viewpoint that restricts homosexual couples the same freedom to celebrate their relationship in public as any heterosexual couple currently has the right to, but feel free to accuse Quyneax of the same crime. Emotional blackmail, projection and now deflection. A substantiated argument would be great for your credibility right about now.

Why PC Gaming Sucks
Just looked on a UK general electronics site (Currys). A computer with 1GB of graphics memory dedicated costs at least £750. Granted, 1GB is only if you want the highest performance settings on, and it's definitely not the best place to buy a computer in the first place, but in many ways, we are missing the point, because that's where unknowledgable people would go to buy a PC, since it's a well known national brand with hundreds of stores across the country, and if unknowlegeable people get told by a smart-looking sales consultant, "You'll definitely need 1GB of graphics memory to play games well on a PC," they'll believe anything. For £240, I can get the newest model of X360 with very little effort needed to set-up on my part. Literally, all I need is a wireless router, or a broadband cable, the console itself and a game, start my 1 month gold membership trial, and I'm good to go. What's more, I know pretty much every game available for the X360 works now, and pretty much every game yet to be released will work too. I guess it's like football (soccer) being the most popular spectator sport in the world. Quite simply, it's the easiest to play and watch. Home consoles are just much easier to play than PCs and therefore have much more appeal, especially amongst children, younger teenagers and parents, even if PC gaming itself isn't necessarily worse.

College
When I went to university the first time round (two years ago, I'm going back in September), I definitely noticed that difference. I think the pressure of being in a new town, potentially hundreds of miles away from home, and also doing a course which requires far more work and effort than anything they've done previously and where they're constantly being assessed alongside their fellow classmates puts most people out of their comfort zone, and that vulnerability shows, especially during the first few weeks of the course. Cliques will establish themselves everywhere, that's just how we organise our social lives, but people are definitely much more open to others when they're at university. There's also the health factor; you start feeling depressed, socially you withdraw because you can't stay awake or concentrate hard enough to hold down a conversation, your appetite goes out of the window because your body clock's all over the place. Med school recognised it was an inevitability that at some point during the year, we would all probably have to do an all-nighter to complete something, somewhere. They told us to keep it to two nights over the whole year, maximum. Anything over that and studies outside of the assignment you're staying up for in the first place start getting affected, so you've got to pinch hours from the night to study them properly too, it's a snowball effect, and in a surprisingly short time you find yourself too far behind to realistically catch up. It's basic study skills really. For everything you study you can pretty much follow this model so long as you start it the day you receive it: Background reading, plan ahead, do it, get some sleep and get ready for the next one.

Small Revelations
The running shoes are actually called "Asics", not "Oasics" despite the deceptive "O" shape at the start of the logo.

how many warning points do you have?
I don't see your logic. It's like when you get points on your driving license. Now you've got some, you need more. Happens all the time. Fall-proof logic.

Today...
Not older people, but a surprising amount of mid-teens at the time did. Phoning into radio stations asking for the song and not knowing there were two versions. 'Everyone' is obviously an exaggeration. ---------------------- I found this video on YouTube today. It's about FIFA 12 specifically, but it could apply to raging at online play in general really. LOTS of expletives. [hide=Lots of foul language][/hide]

Why PC Gaming Sucks
Even at $700 I could buy two home consoles for that. Could probably get all three preowned. Until PC gaming becomes 'mainstream' I'll stick to that opinion. If we assume that PC games are superior to their console counterparts--which, for what it's worth, I honestly believe that they are by virtue of the fact PCs are simply more powerful--then why are so many people still playing those very same games on consoles which provide an inferior experience? The facts don't add up. If PC gaming really is better, then you have to concede that something, somewhere else, isn't going right.

Why PC Gaming Sucks
I can't really contribute anything to this thread, because I've never really gamed much on a PC, especially not online. I've frankly been priced out of it because the hardware costs too much, both upfront and on an annual basis to keep it up-to-date with minimum game system requirements. Perhaps therein lies a point.

Minecraft General
Although not confirmed, it's highly anticipated that they will increase the X360 world size limit, probably in line with future update releases. That said, there's been no such talk for the 1.7.3 patch, and that's due this Friday at the latest. Their plan for bringing the X360 edition up-to-date is to release 1.8.2 of the Beta and then jump straight to 1.2 of the released version, so maybe they will sometime around releasing these patches. The world size issue isn't that big of a deal per se. After all, only eight people can share it at maximum at any one time. Biomes are a bigger problem. It's not that rare for whole maps to be spawned without any snow areas, denying you access to the darker wood, or without deserts, denying access to cactus and hence green dies. When rivers, lakes and oceans get added, it's gonna get a whole lot more packed. The scarcity of flat land is also an issue. You go from plains to massive mountain summit in about thirty tiles. RuneScape definitely spoiled a lot of my early builds. I built sugar, trees and wheat farms underground to yield as much efficiency as possible, until friends started wondering WTF a tree was growing underground for, and why the ponds in my sugar farm all tessellated perfectly. I wouldn't expand tunnels and caves without working out which methods had the best probability of finding something. Took me a while to just loosen up and live a little.

2012 U.S. Elections - President Obama Re-elected
I'm not sure the same hypothetical person who's been left feeling disheartened by Obama's political failure to deliver on promises made in 2008 would be at all bothered about what you call "Obamacare". It was one of his promises, after all. There is also the issue that Republicans in the Senate have made much of the reform Obama wanted to bring in impossible to pass. Obama could quite easily deflect the blame onto the GOP. Personally, from your previous replies to this thread, I think those are just the three things you want Mitt Romney to do, and projection seldom makes for a clear argument.

Minecraft General
Most of my friends and I were first introduced to MC through the 360 version, so we're still feeling our way around. The piston update and especially the Adventure update can't come soon enough though because, as things stand right now, it's too basic a game to do anything except build stuff and look for diamonds. I mean, don't get me wrong. I've got quite a few diamonds, I've built some houses I'm really proud of, I've eventually wrapped my head round logic gates and I can definitely see myself "progressing" but... building stuff requires resource gathering and it gets tedious after a while, especially on single player. It would be nice if they made the 360 version more communal. At least allow multiple people to "own" the same world so one specific person doesn't have to be online for everyone else to play.

Raising Money For A Charity Or An Orginazation?
I think I've done about 350 hours in the past year for the charity I voluntarily work for. Baring in mind our volunteers fill up posts on paid contracts, I dare say I've brought in a few hundred quid at least, even with the cost of putting me in uniform and training me. A cut of the money given to the organisation enters the budget of the local unit I'm a member of, where it's spent on training, uniform and general operational costs.

2012 U.S. Elections - President Obama Re-elected
Our care sucks so bad that wealthy foreigners in socialized healthcare nations come over here for treatment. So it's fine for a few wealthy individuals to experience excellent standards of healthcare, while the poorer majority have to make do with substandard healthcare compared to other developed countries, even though the US in terms of GDP is far wealthier compared to other 'wealthy' countries? You can sling the term 'tax' around like poison if you really want to--once again, it's emotional blackmail rather than a rational argument--but at least it's supposed to be progressive to society as a whole, not just the select few that already benefit most from that society.

2012 U.S. Elections - President Obama Re-elected
If you criticise Obamacare for its alleged attack on freedom, then you may as well propose letting drivers go around without insurance on their cars. In both cases, a decision has been made for somebody that because there is a significant risk, there should be measures in place to mitigate any consequences. This is common sense, how you fund it (private vs public expenditure) is a different matter altogether. To relate Obamacare to any meaningful debate on freedom is desperation, and it's frankly emotional blackmail as far as the American psyche towards the word "freedom" is concerned.

2012 U.S. Elections - President Obama Re-elected
I find it very strange that a party which actively advocates denying people fair access to decent quality healthcare would become more popular for sticking vehemently to that policy. I mean, even if you oppose socialised healthcare, which is a perfectly rationale stance to take and not necessarily congruous with the Republican Party, can somebody at least admit that low income families are inherently disadvantaged by Republican Party policy? Some non-Americans might retort "Only in America", but I think no country does more to reinforce that myth than the US itself, as if it were somehow more exceptional to the common laws of socioeconomics than any other country on Earth.

360 vs ps3
I think the 360 is like that though... I mean I've never tried exiting from an update screen on the Xbox but when I downloaded the Reach map pack for Anniversary, if I left the download screen, it paused the download, and the download itself took the best part of an hour. It's daft, I know. I can understand them not allowing us to compete online while the download is taking place... the lag would be unplayable. But low bandwidth apps shouldn't be a problem...

360 vs ps3
Background while playing other games surely? Or else the point of updates designed to repair glitches and correct unfair competitive advantages would be defeated...

European Football Championship
Ronaldo's expression at the end was that of a man who had a bad decision made for him by another person. Speculation aside, it was a silly choice by whoever it was. I'm not convinced Germany will put Gomez at fifth if faced with similar circumstances tonight.

Real life help & advice
I don't think anyone has a nice photo, or at least the standards most people judge by are non-amateur and make people too self-conscious. I've not seen your photos but... they're probably fine. Most people who whine about photos are.

The Crew Wants You! - CLOSED
I'd encourage anyone who applies to thoroughly research how much time this commitment takes, and how much support they'll receive in the new role. I don't mean "Facebook/PM me if you have any problems", I mean find out how many people are working in your division of the Crew, their skillsets and whether their workload is so up to their eyeballs in their own projects that they won't reasonably be able to lend a hand when it matters. I know some staff members won't like me saying that, but that tidbit of advice really is as basic as it gets, and is relevant to just about any job application, voluntary or otherwise. Would you jump head first into a paid job with no idea how many hours/what working conditions you'll have to grapple with, while having to work around all of life's other commitments? Of course you wouldn't. On that, it was noticeable that the OP said "somewhat" of a commitment, which isn't exactly what I'd describe as specific. Don't be afraid to ask questions either. There's eight empty vacancies, at least. In a team as relatively small as the Crew, that's significant. Why have they been left empty? It might be because of a recent expansion in the team, it might also be because of withdrawn labour. Why did people leave those posts in the first place? It might be because they didn't enjoy the work, but it might be because of more personal reasons, like they wanted to focus on other things, and the Crew didn't fit around that change. The onus is on you to find out. I've seen some people fall absolutely in love with being part of the Tip.It Crew. I've also seen many more people burn out. That said, good luck to all that apply, sincerely.
