  1. *ahem* THE NUMBERS LIE, I TELL YOU! THEY LIE! WHO ARE THESE MEN IN WHITE COATS?
  2. It's developing into a pattern for any first time debater #1: Assume Comp is an idiot #2: Get really, really angry when he keeps arguing #3: Realize he's right, and hate him ever more but give up the argument #4: Slowly realize he was just arguing for fun and wasn't out to get you #5: Treat him as a friend, following him around and making remarks on threads he's debating on At least, that's for relatively mature players. Totally immature players go through #3, then leave TIF forever upon realizing I'm not going to take crap from them. I'm trying to get this down to a science. I love debating
  3. I wish I had a running counter of arguments won\lost. I only keep track of the lost. The won HAS to be in the thousands  That being said, I lost twice on a relatively major issue and once on a minor one. I don't even remember the exact debates, but I could probably find them. It's a thorn in the side of an otherwise perfect argument :|
  4. Fastest way to settle it. Would you rather it was 2 pages of 40 posts with 6 issues each, or 12 pages of 240 posts with 1 issue each ;) That being said, the discussion on the first post expired between one and two minutes after it was posted. Since then I've been hard at work looking for anything to argue with in the responses. Behold, the results! (Also, I thought it was pureprayer who said that. Was it really you? :? )
  5. Yeah, 'cause it's only more accurate then the Encyclopedia Britannica. Tight moderation and credentials work wonders.
  6. I'm afraid quite a few different studies dispute your findings. Source please? I'll start off with http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v438/n7070/full/438900a.html That being said, I'm assuming it's *probably* more accurate then either a 32 year old computer consultant or an 18 year old with no outstanding intelligence characteristics.
  7. I'm making $17 an hour right now. What's your excuse?
  8. In the words of a sometimes-wise TIFer, my least favorite mythical creature is the troll.
  9. We did, and we *thought* both agreed it was possible. I'm not sure what your position is on it, so I take it you think differently then I thought? I'm waiting. Already pointed out the spot where you gave up yours, and to my knowledge I haven't dropped an argument yet. Point it out and I'll gladly resume it, I'm positive I haven't been proven wrong on a single statement yet. Of course. Can all kids always think carefully about everything? 'Cause if not, my statement's still correct.
  10. I dunno. Never enjoyed this so much before *points to your rank*. It's kind of addictive. Along with the fact that I can't get nailed for spamming without reporting the tip.it admins 8-)
  11. Nope, the argument was about psychological maturity and how it tied into physical maturity. Feel free to show where I gave up an argument because I was proven wrong. It's happened before, though not on this thread, and I'm quick to admit when I'm wrong. Not in the sense that physical and psychological maturity are interdependent as Wikipedia so handily mentions. If you aren't physically mature, you can't be completely psychologically mature. Psychological is referring to the human mind; if the part that controls maturity isn't finsihed developing, you aren't completely mature. Quite simple, really.
  12. I see that you've given up on your previous argument. A little statement like 'sorry, you were right' would go a long way. Now that we're back to the first argument: That particular statement was tied into physical maturity, and was being responded to as such. Had you read the background behind it, you would have understood.
  13. I'm ignoring the immature personal 'insults', and focusing on the debate. It would probably be a good idea for you to do so too. And your conveniently ignoring the fact that it never says that age has nothing to do with it. It says that it isn't directly dependent on age, yes. That doesn't mean it has nothing to do with it, as evidenced later in the article. There's also another interesting article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frontal_lobe I quote: "The executive functions of the frontal lobes involve the ability to recognize future consequences resulting from current actions, to choose between good and bad actions (or better and best), override and suppress unacceptable social responses, and determine similarities and differences between things or events. Therefore, it is involved in higher mental functions." Yep, sounds an awfullll lot like those 'psychological maturity' thingies you were talking about. Let's look at another interesting sentence in that article: "The frontal lobe reaches full maturity around age 25, marking the cognitive maturity associated with adulthood. " That state rests, your honor.
  14. Alright, I'll try to continue with the logic. Let me know when you decide to go that route too. Good, then we're in complete agreement. Why are you continuing to post? Read it quite carefully, and it certainly applied to both of us - as did my response. Clearly, you wuold do better to respond to the arguments raised then try and bring up personal issues. Actually, wikipedia says they're related, as you agreed with earlier. Shall I repeat it for you? "The relationship between psychological maturity and age is a difficult one." Since your having a difficult time comprehending the sentence structure, I figured I might as well grab another source. Here's an interesting quote from http://talbenshahar.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=28&Itemid=39: "There is, on the whole, a correlation between age and maturity. "
  15. That would indeed be what I said. Oh, so your point is that they ARE related? Good, now we agree. Like I said, I'm at least halfway mature. Given that I'm more capable of long term decisions then my 6 year old daughter or my 12 year old son, I'm going to go with over halfway. Then again, what would long term decision making have to do with putting your post in context? Sounds to me more like an attempted personal jab. Thankfully, I read everything you said, dissected it, and responded to it individually. Your welcome to disagree with each of the individual responses, I'll be eagerly awaiting your rebuttals.
  16. Nope, both of them are tied together. You seem to be having a hard time grasping that concept. I did. Wikipedia says it best: "The relationship between psychological maturity and age is a difficult one."
  17. No, I didn't. I responded to a long post where the OP referred to physical and psychological maturity together. Why can't you accept that and move on? Never heard of him before this thread. But I've heard that there's this odd phenomenon where two people can agree with each other Just because they are both psychological doesn't make them inextricably linked - and on the opposite end of the spectrum, physical and psychological are certainly not completely separate. It's time you looked at the issue as a whole, not each sentences as a completely independent thought or idea
  18. Really! That's wonderful! Thanks for letting me know that! Except that I already agreed with and acknowledged that in the first place! Now, how does that tie into the argument again?
  19. I'm completely agreeing with what the dictionary says. Perhaps you could get more specific on which part you think I disagree on. Unfortunately for your argument, the two of them aren't completely separate unrelated categories.
  20. Exactly why he should quit whining, as he has no idea what he's talking about. It was a roundabout way of delivering my point :
  21. I'm not distorting truth, I'm trying to find a way to keep responding to your continuous use of the exact same questions. Again, not true. Just because something doesn't depend completely on it doesn't mean it has no relation to it. I go back to what I said earlier. A kid can be afraid of parents punishment (short term, hardly even applicable) or the long reaching health consequences 40 years down the road. One indicates maturity, one indicates a lack thereof - yet both have the same response. Responses are not the end all, be all indicators of thought processes.
  22. Nope. Your wikipedia article says that maturity isn't dependent on age, not that it doesn't have anything to do with it. Depends. Are you referring to brain development or responses that seem mature?
  23. The combat triangle: Mage > range > melee < Mage It's a fact. Post on some of the other threads I've argued this on if you want further proof, I'm not going through it again on a whole other thread.
  24. He wasn't. Read through the previous posts; it was established that the two were related and tied to brain maturity.
  25. Do we have to follow the phb terms of service along with tip.its? As long as we want to use the phb boards...
