  1. When you say update, do you mean like... a more recent update that I can download for it? Or are you talking about a completely new/different graphics card all together? I Google search "ATI Radeon Xpress 1150 updates", but didn't find anything that looked reliable or even correct. Then again, I'm not all that savvy when it comes to stuff like this <_< . At the moment I'm downloading a DriverScanner ( http://www.liutilities.com/products/campaigns/affiliate/offer/gen/ds/ ) and trying that out.
  2. I've Google searched around for an answer, and have yet to find one that actually works. Here recently, when I try to watch certain movies or play a game, my screen will freeze for a moment or two and the unfreeze. When this happens, a small box in the bottom right corner pops up that reads "Display Driver R300 stopped responding and has recovered". Then it will freeze again for a moment, and then unfreeze. It continues to do this unless I manage to close out the window. How can this be fixed? It's never done it before, and has just recently started. I installed the latest DirectX (9.0c) version a day or 2 ago... would that have anything to do with it? By the way, if I'm looking correctly, I have a ATI Radeon Xpress 1150 graphics card on my Gateway laptop (Windows Vista). Thanks!
  3. Normally, I use 110mb.com for any of my hosting needs; it's free, easy, and best of all: has no advertisements. But up until recently they've gone completely down hill for me. I always use Gmail for my e-mail addresses, especially for any website I make that needs it's own specific e-mail. After registering the Gmail account, and filling everything out on 110mb.com, I check my Gmail account to find... nothing. No confirmation e-mail what-so-ever. I always double & triple check the information I submit when I'm making a new 110mb account, but I figured it was an honest mistake. So I tried again, this time using the same e-mail but a different website name. STILL nothing. So I made a completely different Gmail account, and tried making ANOTHER website, this time being 1,000% correct with my information submission. NOTHING!! That was about 2 days ago. I tried filing a report about it, but haven't heard anything from them. It's weird, because I've had a few 110mb accounts in the past (my most recent one being made about a month ago) without any problems. So this is my question to you guys: what are some free web hosting websites that won't automatically put any advertisements on your web pages? 110mb.com was really the only FREE web hosting place that I've ever found that didn't have some sort of advertisements on your pages. And I can't find anything that tickles my fancy off of Google.
  4. If you knew how you were going to die, doing stuff that would "cheat death" like shooting yourself would nullify itself. Try not to think about it in those types terms, with so many plot holes & questionable "what if" scenarios. The main question is: would you want to know or not? If you knew that on... August 21st, 2018, at 2:13 pm you were going to die (regardless of how or why), would you want to know that or would you NOT want to know. Assuming of course you had NO idea how or why you die, that's the question.
  5. Tbh, i lol'ed even HARDER. But actually, it would sort of make sense. Regardless of how or when you were going to die, if it's your time it's your time... sounds like a movie I once saw... Wtf. Final Destination anyone? DANG IT!
  6. Coincidentally, I thought about that Lenticular. I guess I thought of it in the way that you couldnt change it in any way; you just knew. I suppose if you knew, and it wasn't a natural death, you COULD technically change it. Which would bring a whole new WTF level to the question.
  7. That's what made me second guess myself. But there's still a part of me that is curious; am I going to go anytime soon, or am I going to live a long fulfilling life? I don't know... I guess it's not really a topic worthy question, but it sparked my interest to see what others would think about it.
  8. Anybody listen to Eminem? His recent album, Recovery, was released recently. Just wondering what anybody thought. I'm not a die hard Eminem fan or anything, but I do realize the fact that he is straight up BEAST when it comes to lyrics & his flow. Personally, I enjoyed Recovery on most parts. My 3 favorite songs are No Love, Love the Way You Lie, and Talkin' to Myself. "Not Afraid", which seems to be getting tons of radio time around where I live, didn't impress me all that much. And most of the other songs from the album weren;'t as impressive as I expected, but I enjoy them none the less. Thoughts?
  9. It's been a while since I've posted anything, but earlier this evening I was eating dinner and thought of something rather strange. It kind of made me wonder, so I figured I would ask the good people of Tip.it forums... Would you want to know the exact time or your own death? At first, I didn't really think it would be all that big of a question. And I automatically thought "YES!". But then I got to thinking. If I knew the day that I died, I would probably walk around with some what of a depressed feeling... knowing EXACTLY how long I had left. At the same time, it could also be beneficial to know so that you would live life like it's meant to be lived; without holding back, living it to the fullest, etc. What are your thoughts? I'm kind of torn between the decision & I'd love to know what you guys would do if you were given the choice.
  10. I. Freaking. Love. Zelda. By far my most favorite video game series of all time. Of course, I grew up with Nintendo (although I was more along the lines of the SNES era), so I'm probably biased. I haven't played any of the newer Zeldas, because I just don't seem to find them appealing. The last Zelda I've ever played/owned was Twilight Princess (for the Gamecube), and I never completed it. I just couldn't get in to that whole transforming in to a wolf type thing they had in that game. So I guess you could say I'm mainly a fan of the "oldies". I have an extremely close tie between Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time for my "most favorite" game. Both were epic. But LttP was the first Zelda game I had ever played and beaten. My older brother had a regular NES with the first LoZ, but I was far to young to really understand what to do with it (although I did later play and beat it as well, but this was when I got older). I still have my SNES and LttP game, but haven't played it in well over a year. Even though it's hooked up sitting 7 feet from me. I also haven't played Ocarina of Time (or Majora's Mask for that matter) in years. I still have both games and my Nintendo 64, but it isn't hooked up. I have the Master Quest disk for Gamecube, though, and it's also hooked up 7 feet away from me  . I did, however, find my Gameboy a few weeks ago in my closet... along with Link's Awakening. When I started it up, though, it didn't have any saved files on it. I supposed it messed up over the years and erased everything. But I played it through and beat it in a couple of days using my spare time. It was great. It's by far my most favorite Zelda of the hand held games.
  11. WARNING: Huge spoilers. Proceed at your own risk. [hide]I really enjoyed this game. It's feel, it's look, and most definitely it's story line. I just finished the game last night (81% complete when I finished) and the ending was epic in my opinion. John goes through all that crap, finally gets his family back, and dies anyways. I don't normally care very much about what does or doesn't happen, story wise, in a video game... but the ending to RDR actually had me kind of upset  . I thought it sucked how he FINALLY got his family back, and then ended up getting screwed over anyways. The scene where he tells Jack & his wife to get out of the barn and "not to stop" is amazing. He knows that he's seeing the family he worked so hard for, for the last time. Not to mention the grave scene(s) were pretty sad, especially with that song. Killing Ross didn't really make me feel any better, but for some weird reason actually DID bring me some type of closure. Lol. Which I never say about a video game. Playing as Jack isn't terrible... he's obviously no John Marston, but he doesn't bother me too much. The only 2 things that get on my nerves are his TERRIBLE "grown up" voice, and those stupid little 1 liners he spits out every once in a while (i.e. "Thats how ya taught me pa!"). Overall I think it's the best story line of a Rock Star game that I've ever played. It was also a breath of fresh air to get a very different time & location setting. I'm used to the Grand Theft Auto type of eras (70s, 80s, 90s, etc.) but I thoroughly enjoyed the early 1900s "Old West" setting that RDR offered. [/hide] Just my opinion on the ending, and the game itself. Def one of the best games I've played in a loooong time (non-FPS that is).
  12. Bahaha, good question. I guess in my mind I've always seen free MMORPGs as just... "hobbies", instead of actually video games. When I think "video game" I think of stuff you have to buy from Walmart. Yeah, I pretty much make no sense, no need to tell me  . WoW, quite possibly, could be the most annoying thing on the planet to me. I've tried playing it, I've got a friend or 2 who fiddles around with it on occasion, and I hate it. But thanks for the idea  .
  13. EDIT: If this is in the wrong place then I apologize. MMORPGs aren't considered video games or consoles to me, so I didn't feel this topic belonged there. If I was wrong then just move it for me :) . One thing that's bothered me for years is the near impossibility it is (for me at least) to find an MMORPG that has recently been opened. I always seem to find the ones that have thousands and thousands and thousands of players. The last MMORPG I found that was "recently released" was actually Runescape. I found & joined in December of 2001, so there weren't tens of thousands/hundreds of thousands of players. It sounds stupid, but I like finding games that are fairly new (less than a year released; preferably sooner). Why? Because like with Runescape, I got to see so many things. I got to see the legends thrive (Bluerose, Tks, Gearshifter, etc), history be made (first to certain level 99s, etc), and crazy things happen (like the party hat dupe). Since my quitting in 2005 [ please click my signature for more info if you're bored and would like a good read  ] I have yet to find another MMORPG to satisfy me in any way. I blame this loosely on the fact that I can't seem to find one that keeps my interest while also NOT being years old with tens of thousands of members. So My question is this: is there a website that lists new MMORPGs? I've googled, but have had no such luck. I've found tons of topsite-lists but those aren't really that helpful, nor are any that I have found listed from newer to older. Help me good people of Tip.it!
  14. Personally Purchased Xbox: $100 [ purchased this in between my Gamecube & 360 ] Xbox Game(s): $150 [ Morrowind, San Andreas, Madden 06, Fable ] Xbox 360: $300 Xbox 360 (#2... first one broke): $300 Modern Warfare (360 game): $50 GTA IV (360 game): $60 Modern Warfare 2 (360 game): $60 Halo 3 (360 game): $60 Xbox 360 Controllers (2): ... $100? I think the wireless one's are $50 a pop if I can remember. Haven't bought one in over a year. Microphone: $20 Total: $1200. Roughly. That counts (as listed) for the consoles, games, controllers, etc. Lifetime Purchased [[ this includes Christmas/Birthday gifts, and anything that a friend or parent purchased ]] NES NES games (Zelda, Zelda 2, Metroid, some kind of racing game, Contra, and a handful of others I can't remember) NES controller(s) SNES SNES games (the games I can remember/still have include Zelda, Metroid, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong 2, Mario RPG, Super punchout, NBA Jams, Super Mario World, and some others) Nintendo 64 N64 games (including 007, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Turok, Donkey Kong, Mario, Jet Force Gemini, and wow... probably 10 other games) N64 controllers Gamecube Gamecube controllers Gamecube games (including Twilight Princess, Ocarina of Time, Zelda Collectors edition, The Wind Waker, Super Smash Brothers, Mario Kart, Metroid Prime, Final Fantasy, Madden 2003, Pro Skater 3, Pro Skater 4, Animal Crossing, Gauntlet Dark Legacy) Total: $1,000,000... . There's no telling. I can't remember for the life of me how much those listed consoles/games costed at the time they were purchased and stuff. I'd be willing to bet $2000-$3000 on those listed above NOT including the $1200 I've spent myself on Xbox & Xbox 360 stuff.
  15. Delete deathstreaks, thermal, heartbeat sensors, commando, and most killstreaks. ... why? Then it would be just like the first modern warfare. Deathstreaks are a perfect balance. In MW1, I got killed all the time by martyrdom; and I've probably been been killed by martyrdom... 2 or 3 times in MW2. Painkiller is also a good anti-spawn trapping tool, because it gives people a chance to get by you when they need it. I don't really understand what it is about deathstreaks you don't like. Thermal: what's not to like about this? If you can use it, use it. I have a sniper set up w/ thermal but in all honesty I snipe better without it (which is why I have a non-thermal set up). I also never use thermal on any regular weapons and rarely get killed by people who use it on them. Heart beat Sensors: This can be annoying, but nothing THAT bad. I normally do very well when I play regardless if people on the other team use heart beat sensors or not. Commando: I don't mind commando at all unless they have that God forsaken Marathon/Lightweight/Commando setup. Killstreaks: Kind of blows my mind why you don't like the way killstreaks are set up. I love being able to mix and match which killstreaks I am able to use (although I normally use predator/harrier/chopper gunner. Nuke's annoy me. Only because I think they're a complete waste of a killstreak option and WHY in the world would you want to cut a game early? Just don't get it.

    Book of Eli

Wtf. I love Denzel films. Granted there have been a couple that weren't as good, but a movie where Denzel is playing a badass? Love them. On topic: Movie was great in my opinion. Such a mind blow when you find out about everything (especially considering the things Eli does throughout the movie). I recommend it to anyone.

Alright, there isn't a place to select "Install them side by side". I've looked twice and see nothing like that. Since I don't have a camera to take & upload a picture, here is a leet paint drawing of basically exactly what it says on my screen: Not everything is listed because most everything in your picture looks exactly what mine looks like; minus the place to select "install side by side". I suppose I could just be overlooking it... but how!? I didn't see any selection option like that the first time through, and I just tried it a 2nd time after looking at your picture and STILL didn't see that choice. This is version 9.10 by the way, if that even matters.

I just got slammed with confusion about the whole partition setup thing. I googled a "How-to" but it's still got me confused. The 2 I've found were basically the same, but not very descriptive for... erm... dummies like me.

    Ubuntu

Keep in mind I'm using Windows Vista for all this. I defragmented. Took an hour or 2, and when finished just said "your system is good". Neat. The download finished of Ubuntu. Now here's where I MAY have screwed up, but I don't think I did. I inserted the blank CD-R and clicked "Write/Move Files using Windows" on the pop up box. It opened the empty CD-R menu and it said "Drag files to the blank CD" or something along those lines. So that's what I did. I drug the ISO file to the CD, right clicked, and went to "Finish disk" I believe was what the choice was. A couple minutes later the CD popped out, apparently ready for use. I restarted my computer and hit F10 (which is the Boot Menu for this particular laptop) and it came up with 3 choices; the first of which was labeled with the CD/DVD-RW drive. I hit enter. A black screen came up with a bunch of random stuff somewhere along the lines of this (keep in mind this isn't WORD FOR WORD and nor is it all the writing... I just jotted down a few bits of it in case I needed to repeat it here): Yukon PXE v5.0.4.3 Pre-boot execution Environment (PXE) v2.1 [another couple of random copyrighted lines and years] CLIENT MAC ADDR: bunch of numbers GUID: 20240922 (and the numbers/letters go on for a bit) Just said stuff like that. After the GUID line it said something else and had a few dots that kept getting longer and longer as time went on, and eventually got a message saying "No Boot File name Received" and then it retried with the dots and stuff. Soooo... yeah. I didn't know if it was working, wasn't working, if I screwed up with the burning of the CD, or what was going on. If you guys need more info I can try it again and write down everything word-for-word if it'll help.

Alright. Just as a precaution, this is what I got to do: #1 - Download Ubuntu (currently at 46% completion). #2 - Burn the Ubuntu ISO file to a 700 mb/80 minute CD (CD-R is fine I assume?). #3 - Defragment the computer. #4 - Insert burned disk, restart, and it'll start up. Correct me if I'm wrong :^_^: . I appreciate the Wubi suggestion Tiigon, but I think I'm just going to go ahead and install it normally anyways. I'm on Firefox 95% of the time I get on the computer (only occasionally do I use anything else). So even if I don't use Ubuntu EVERY time I get on the computer, I'll still have it regardless.
  22. #1 - Copy & paste the above code in to notepad. #2 - In the above code, in red, where it says 'ENTER PASSWORD HERE'... simply type whatever you want your password to be. #3 - Save the file as whatever name you want .BAT (for example: folderlocker.bat) instead of .TXT . #4 - Double click the .BAT file you just saved and you'll get a cmd prompt asking for your password. This will open a new 'Locker' folder. #5 - Add, remove, check, edit, etc. whatever it is you want to in this folder. When you're done & want to lock it back up, just double click the .BAT file again and hit "Y". I'm not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for, but it's simple and quick without the need for downloading a program.

Thanks very much everyone for your speedy & very helpful replies! I suppose it couldn't hurt to at least give it a try. But I'm a bit confused about one thing that many of you keep mentioning: "partition". What exactly is that? I know the definition and meaning of the word, obviously, but I'm not sure what exactly you mean when using it in computer terms relating to Ubuntu. I assume you simply mean by not replacing Windows with Ubuntu and setting it up as a dual boot type of deal, but I'm not sure how to do that. Assuming again you just install Ubuntu normally and it automatically sets it up as you all are saying without me having to manually do so, then we're all gravy  . One other question: I noticed that you download an ISO file of Ubuntu, do SOMETHING with that ISO file, and burn that to a normal CD (700 mb/80 minute). What exactly am I supposed to do with that ISO file? I've only dealt with ISO file(s) once and that was years ago relating to ROM hacks. But the program I used (forgot the name) was a very small ISO type converter that took the hacked ROM file and made it playable with emulators (if I remember all that correctly).

I actually did a Google search believe it or not  . I skimmed over this article : http://www.informationweek.com/news/software/operatingsystems/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=199201179&pgno=1&queryText=&isPrev= (which coincidentally was the #1 result in your Google search) but didn't really find out much. Don't get me wrong: it's a good comparison article and all, but it was done not only in 2007, but on stuff I don't really know much about. I suppose I should just stick with Windows. I'm normally fiddling with Limewire, Firefox, and Vuze (bittorrents) and I'm not sure an entire operating system is really worth the time and effort of downloading/installing if it isn't gonna do any good. Considering I don't ever do anything crazy with my computer.
