  1. About a month ago I purchased a desktop computer (Acer). To make a long story short: it came with speakers that work, but ever since I've set everything up there has been problems with the speakers. There is a very odd "clicking" sound that continuously pulses whenever the speakers are turned on (regardless of volume level). It's sort of hard to explain to be honest, seeing as I've owned 5+ computers in my life and have never experienced this. I did a Google search but really never found anything that seemed to be a fix. I did, however, find search results from people that seem to have had similar problems: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/180244-28-strange-clicking-noise http://www.eurogamer.net/forum_thread_posts.php?thread_id=125454 These people are experiencing the same kind of problem that I am. My sound cards are updated (hell, I bought the computer barely 1 month ago) and my software for the drivers are updated. I'm literally baffled as to why this is happening, I've never had any kind of problem like this! Any help or suggestions is appreciated.
  2. I suppose I'm mostly referring to newer players, then. If I hadn't been helped out when I first started, I most likely would have quit within a week. Granted... that was in December 2001, so as you can imagine the game is worlds beyond what it used to be. But I just can't tell who's new and who's not. As said earlier, I see low levels running around in Lumbridge in mithril, while at the same time I see 40s-60s wearing bronze & iron/steel. I guess I could just bank the money and leave it sitting, but what's the point? I quite playing October 2005, came back for 2 months in November 2007 as a joke to merchant a rare (just to test my abilities), and haven't touched the game since. I legitimately have zero interest in the game so I don't care to even keep the money. I looked on the Events section, but I can't be bothered with making some kind of grand party. And from what I've noticed, a simple 'Falador Party Room' drop party with 5m gp worth of items would be lackluster to say the least. I guess it's just not an easy fix for what I'm aiming to do. Maybe I should pick a number in my head 1-250 and let people on the forums post their guess. Update the topic with a list of numbers, along with who reserved the number, and after X amount of days reveal the person who was closest. :-?
  3. I have no clue what to buy. I see your point, though, and this is not a bad idea. The problem I have with drop parties is not everyone gets something. On top of that, there could be a handful of people that don't even deserve to get anything or that don't even really need it. I'd like to find a few "Charlie Bucket" type people and spread the wealth :) [for those who don't get that reference, it's the dirt poor kid from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory]
  4. *points to sig* Yeah, I'm familiar with getting screwed like this #-o . You know what's crazy? I've been trying to find good candidates for free 250k giveaways at Lumby, and I seriously can not find anyone. Level 60s are running around in iron/steel, and level 20s are running around in mithril. I've been looking for almost 30 minutes now!
  5. Haha, well that's all well and good, but I doubt that'll happen. What I'm thinking of doing is selling it all off & then giving random lower leveled people like 250k each. It'd probably help out a lot of people  .
  6. They didn't... that I remember. I just checked through the money bag suggestion you mentioned, and limp roots are worth 793 gp and big bones are 477 gp each. So all in all, both stacks of items would get me about 4,876,000 gp. Not bad money if I ever decided to come back and play which isn't gonna happen :P . Guess they'll just sit there. Wow, I figured they would be worth more than this to be honest. Oh well, guess somebody got lucky!
  7. Thanks guys. Good suggestions across the board. For whatever reason, I'm finally able to log in Account Management now; my recovery questions have been changed and my current e-mail address has been registered. I think you guys are right about the whole "Macro Farming" assumption: Unfortunately, whoever hacked my account has gotten rid of/sold the Green Halloween Mask that I had from back in 2007 [anybody tell me their value these days? I bought it way back then for 18.3 million]. I also had around 3,000,000 gp that they've dwindled down to just under 200,000 gp. Whoever had the account added the Abyssal Whip, Varrock Teleport slabs, 5700 big bones, and 2700 limp roots. Are the roots and big bones even worth anything  ?
  8. Thanks. By the way everyone, someone did somehow get my account. I just recently signed in to it. Half of my friends list is still there, but the other half was deleted. There are also new people added I've never known before. Not only that, but I had a Green Halloween Mask & roughly 3 million gp on my account the last time I logged in way back in 2007... it's gone. But whoever has been using my account has been collecting big bones & limpwurt roots, because I have about 5,000 big bones and 2,300 limp roots banked  . And they've got members... I still can't log on to the actual website (more specifically, account management) so I'm stuck :wall: .
  9. If this is the wrong place for this, I apologize. It's been years since I've dealt with anything Runescape related on these forums, but this looked like it was the best place to put it  . It's been years since I've logged on to Runescape (just click my signature if you don't believe me <_< ), but I was bored earlier and suddenly decided I would see what it's like these days. But I ran in to a little problem... I couldn't log in. My password kept popping up incorrect. I figured that somehow, even though I hadn't played in years, someone managed to get my account information SOME HOW. I did the account recovery process and noticed that my recovery questions weren't the same as they used to be. In fact, as far back as I can remember, my account has always had the same recovery questions since the first day I set them up. I answered them like they used to be for the hell of it but ironically, it seemed to work: So I tried logging in, but it kept giving me an odd message. I'm not sure exactly what the message means, but it looks like there's someone actually signed in to my account this very second  : Am I correct in my assumption that someone is literally signed in to my old account? If so, what do you suggest I do about it? I tried logging in specifically to the website, but it keeps telling I have an invalid password even though I obviously don't. There are also no words showing up in that little reCaptcha thingy, so I assumed that might be why it isn't letting me log in. Only problem is that I have no clue how to get words to show up in that stupid reCaptcha box (I've tried reloading the page). Any help guys?
  10. Wow, thanks everyone! All the posts were very helpful. It's been a loooong time I've even been around the TIF, it's awesome to know this place is still running strong ;) .
  11. Believe it or not, I've spent the last 20 minutes Google searching this subject... only to find not-so-much information on it. I'm using Windows 7 (if that matters) and I'm trying to set up a timed shutdown of my computer. It's a long story as to why, so I won't get in to that, but the point is: I'm getting frustrated with myself. I've done it in the past, but it doesn't seem like it's working for me with my recent purchase of a new computer :wall: . Here's an example of what I'm tried doing: - At the Desktop, right click >> New >> Shortcut - In the item location, I'm looking to type something along the line of "shutdown -s -f -t 3600 -c Windows will shutdown in 60 minutes!" - If I remember correctly, -s is "Shutdown", -f is "forcing applications to close without warning", -t is "setting a time in seconds until the shutdown", and -c is "a message box with the typed text" When I click the finished shortcut, I get a very quick pop-up that I can't even read. And it isn't the message box type of pop-up like it should be; it's one of those DOS windows that insta-disappears. I have a tendency of over complicating very simple things & over looking very simple mistakes, especially when I get frustrated over something I technically KNEW how to do  . Any help is appreciated! P.S. - I know that there's probably an easier way to do this (i.e. a pre-installed program on my computer), but I'd rather have this specific problem solved either way... just so I can get my mind at ease!
  12. I won't post it, but just click my signature. It's my Runescape merchanting history in a nutshell.
  13. I had 2 phases in my RSC career involving friends. The first really good friend I had was Britches27. We met randomly, became very close very quickly, and began a VERY popular & successful rune 2 hand business. Not long after, he ended up key-logging me and stripped me of my then bank worth of 27,000,000 gold. I suppose I couldn't technically hate him: it was through him that I became a trusted friend of a few 99 smiths, and because of that, I was able to continue my rune 2 hand business by myself (which ended up being 10 times more successful). My overall best RuneScape friend, by far, was Wizardgir. We met near the end of 2002 at the second level of Melzar's maze training on ghosts. In all actuality, he saved me from them! Despite my level 99 merchanting skill ( 8-) ) I was a complete n00b when it came to almost every other skill: especially combat. It's a long story so I won't go in to that, but the point is that's when we first met. We were basically "brothers" as far as Runescape was concerned. I remember when he finally achieved rune mining in September or October 2003. In fact, I loaned him the 5,000,000 gold he need in August 2004 so that he could reach level 85 smithing; it was just he and I at the anvil in Yanille when he achieved it. Eventually, though, we drifted apart. I was addicted to making money & playing the rare market and he was addicted to combat and other skills. He decided to join a clan too, which didn't help the situation, because instead of spending any time doing stuff together, he was off PKing and doing things with his clan. By the time I got hacked in October 2005, we had all but stopped talking. I did, however, look him up in the Hiscores a couple years ago. He was ranked in the top 3,000 players which was pretty crazy for me to see. I tried looking him up a few minutes ago but he doesn't even appear on the hiscores anymore, so I have no clue what happened. EDIT: You know, although I don't consider them best RSC friends, I had a few people that I met veeeeery early on in the game that ended up becoming very well known players. Rubbermaid was one of the first few people I ever even spoke to when I joined Runescape in late 2001. I used to sell him cow hides in the Lumby cow pin, which ironically, first got me in to merchanting all together. Another person was Empror1. We had met while I was training Woodcutting in the forest East of Draynor (behind Lumby castle). This was probably... wow... early to mid 2002?? We never really hung out much, but we talked on a pretty regular basis. I don't remember when he took over, but he's apparently been holding the #1 firemaking spot for a looooooooong time. Wasn't he the first to get 200m in that skill?
  14. I remember nearly every name on your list; mostly the ones dealing with non-combat skills, though :P . Bluerose, Musashi22, and Whitemagem used to do a lot of smithing for me back when the 2hander market was still largely profitable. Bluerose actually never did that much for me... maybe 1 or 2 shipments. In fact, not even Whitemagem did all THAt much for me when compared to Yankeeyank1; he did 75% of all my shipments out of the 4 smiths I did business with. **hint hint -- CLICK MY SIG -- hint hint**
  15. I normally don't reply to posts. Especially in General Discussion, since I have been "retired" from RuneScape for nearly 6 years. You're right in your comments about the early stages of RuneScape. Back when I joined, and was a very active player (click my sig), level 99s were a very rare commodity. Especially in specific skills. Jagex, over the years, has managed to make their game so insanely easy that level 99 (13m+ exp) and even MAX exp (200m) is very possible. Back in 2001, when I first joined, it would be insane for someone to gain 10m+ exp in a year's time. These days, people pound out hundreds of millions of exp a year. So you can imagine when the Gower's first started RuneScape, 13m+ for level 99 (and 200m cap) was pretty outrageous.
  16. Thanks very much for all replies. Unfortunately, the laptop went in to uber-effed up mode and wouldn't work at all. I still have no idea how it happened either. One minute I was browsing around the internet, and the next minute there's a brownish/orange screen! I held down the power button for a restart, but once I tried cutting it back on it kept cutting off & powering back on (by itself) over and over again. I had an anti virus program installed right after the re-install so I'm still baffled as to what happened. So what did I do? Bought a new computer! Besides, I've always liked desktops better. I purchased an Acer (without the monitor) that has the 4 GB memory/RAM and 1 TB hard drive. I also purchased a 22" LCD monitor seperately. Needless to say it's a big step from my Gateway Laptop 15" monitor that I purchased in early 2007!
  17. I've never had very many problems, but I've had way more problems with Vista than I ever did XP. I need to just bite the bullet and purchase Windows 7, but I don't want to spend any money for an operating system hen I already have one  . As far as looking through my drivers: everything seems to be there from what I can tell. I just figure everything's out of date. I had 108 'Windows Updates' last night after the re-install and I have another 4 this morning; I'm getting all of those downloaded and hopefully that will pretty much take care of anything.
  18. Thanks for the replies guys! I've got Windows Vista (yeah yeah, I know... save the lectures lol). I believe it's 32-bit if I'm not mistaken. As far as updating the drivers and all that: is there any easier way to do this? I just assumed anything that would need to be updated would be automatically downloaded through the 'Windows Update' thing for me to install  ?? I'm already getting the "R300 driver has stopper working and recovered successfully" message when I try watching things on Youtube, but like I said before, I assumed all things relating to this would be taken care of after installing some of those 'Windows Update' things.
  19. Thanks to my wonderful electronic-illiterate mother and father, I recently returned from a 2 trip to the beach to find my computer had been wrecked beyond easy repair. I don't know what they managed to do or how they managed to do it, but without going in to detail, they ruined it. I haven't had to reformat my laptop in over a year and a half, so I couldn't remember exactly how to do it. I was under the impression there was a built in recovery system that was a few easy clicks away. I was apparently wrong. I spent a good 45 minutes looking for ANYTHING that said "Reformat" stamped across it but couldn't find a single thing. I even tried Google searching for help. So I figured there was a recovery CD I needed before I could do anything. After looking all through my desk drawers, the only thing I found was the "Operating System Disk". There were a few options about a system restore to previous dates, but there were only 4 available dates... and the farthest date back was only 2 weeks ago! I tried all 4 of them, but I kept getting some kind of "System Restore failed" message afterward. The only other option on the disk was an "Operating System Restore". Frustrated and out of ideas, I went ahead and did it. I reinstalled the Windows Vista (on the same partition, which was #2 if that matters). When it did this, it said something about creating a 'Windows.old' file after the install and asked if that was alright or not. Long story short: it reinstalled. Here's where my questions come in: Question #1: After the install, my computer literally has NOTHING on it. Other than the usual things of course -- Explorer, Windows Media Player, Solitaire, Minesweeper -- things like that. Is there anything I should be worried about reinstalling? I know the basics like Java and Shockwave and all that good stuff, but normally when I do a reformat there's a lot of other things still on the computer. The out right blankness of programs was kind of a shock  . Question #2: Even though the computer is basically blank, there is only 29 GB out of 60 GB of free space!?!? This is nearly 8 GB lower free space than I had before I did the OS restore! I did some looking around and I'm 99.9% sure it's the 'Windows.old' file that it had asked me about creating at the beginning of the install... because when I right clicked and checked to see how large the 'Windows.old' file was, is was sky rocketing (I eventually just Xed out when it got to about 4.5 GB... but it was still going up when I Xed out). Is this file alright to delete? I don't see why I would need it. Thanks very much in advance. My computer seems to be working fine now. I was just asking because I'm used to the normal reformatting and this re-installation of the operating system is new to me.
  20. I'd probably have a chuckle if PSN shut down their Black Ops servers. Mainly because I've never liked Playstation, and I always seem to run across dbag PS3 owners <_< . Black Ops just flat out all around sucks. I knew it wasn't going to be on Infinity Ward's level, but still... this bad?
  21. I disagree that you say it outright sucks, any multiplayer game is fun in one way or another and i've personally had a lot of fun with it, I can't say more so than H3 yet becuase it's only been out a week but i'm optimistic. I don't disagree with all your points, but I consider you to be unfairly harsh or wrong on most - no offence. #1 - Weapons There are TWO differences between the BR and DMR. 1) The first is 3 burst, and the other is single burst. 2) Recticle bloom That is it. It takes exactly the same amount of clicks on your controller for the DMR and if you want to time it perfectly, you should have no trouble adapting from the BR, I certainly haven't. The granade launcher takes skill, unlike the noob tube from MW2. I'm happy about that. Sucessfully using the EMP is difficult, but if you want to get good, practise the start of "Tip of the spear", once you can consistently and successfully disable both banshees that appear right at the start before they fly off, you should be able to get your eye in for multiplayer. The needle rifle is automatic, that's the only problem I have with it. (Although it is handy) #2 - Grenades Stickies do seem to take more skill now, I agree with you, but i'm still ok with it, because I don't want someone being able to stick me easily. They did nerf frags from the beta, because they went for miles and did too much damage. One effect of the nerf was that they changed the way explosions harmed you. There is now a radius of effect and the damage inflicted gradually decreases, as opose to set areas of damage in H2 and H3. #3 - Sniping I agree. Completely. I was never god's gift to sniping either, but then I had my first game of snipers in Reach yesterday, and well... http://www.bungie.net/stats/reach/gamestats.aspx?gameid=76262578&player=Keizer112 (I'm Keizer112) #4 - Upgrades Jet packs have their uses like that, but unless you suck really badly that won't happen all too often. Thats what armor lock is meant to be used for. Do you have any beef with hologram? #5 - Shields/Life I'm happy with the new sheilds+health system. Just if you didn't already know, sheilds now "pop". Meaning having 100% shields, and 10% shields will protect you from the same melee punch. Basicly, damage doesn't travel through shields unless you're using a power weapon. So if your using the AR, watch for that magic pop and then hit them. And if you can get two punches on them without any shield recharge, they should be dead. #6 - Maps I agree, too few maps. If they let any community maps in from forge world, i'd be happier. But they'll want you to buy all their future DLC... Playing Hemmorage (aka Blood Gulch) with no vehicles is very boring, it's just too big. Territories, snipers, elite slayer and headhunter work well though. (The tank in Territories is WAY over powered though - http://www.bungie.net/stats/reach/gamestats.aspx?gameid=77107840&player=Keizer112) [Hide]Yes, +95 KD. 85 kills in the tank alone.[/hide] Please accept this constructive criticism, and i'm sorry if i've sounded arrogant. The only thing that seemed arrogant was where you put "Very long rant" as the hide tag... but aside from that, I see your point on pretty much everything you said. I suppose what has really been throwing me off is the massive difference between H2/H3 and Reach. On H2, I was fairly decent. On H3, I always felt I was pretty good (averaging a 2.0+ KDR most times). It's not the fact that I'm terrible at Reach... there are just so many things that feel flawed to me. But purpose it's because I'm still comparing them to past Halo games. EDIT: I knew I had forgotten an equipment power up! Personally, holograms frustrate me... but they also crack me up. I always get tricked in to unloading on one of them haha.
  22. My Opinion on Why Halo: Reach's Multiplayer SUCKS ------------------------------------------------------------------- First of all, this is just my personal opinion. I realize not everyone will agree. I also realize that what I may find unappealing, the person next to me might find amazing. So please try and refrain from any trolling or flaming... I'm simply explaining why I don't particularly enjoy the online game play. Btw, the numbers do not represent any sort of order... I simply used the numbers to separate different "dislikes". And if it's any consolation, I friggin LOVED the campaign. I think they did a really nice job with it. Although the campaign seemed a bit short to me, the ending was really good (and sad). ------------------------------------------------------------------- #1 - Weapons - For whatever reason, they decided to change a lot of weapons when they introduced Reach. They got rid of the 3 burst Battle Riffle and replaced it with the annoying single shot DMR. They threw in a lot of newer weapons (Plasma Launcher, Fuel Rod Gun, Needle Rifle, Grenade Launcher... to name a few) but some of them just seem to suck. I can't seem to ever use the grenade launcher correctly. Another thing that blows my mind is the DMR's iffy capabilities. Sometimes, it works fairly decent. Other times, however, I can literally unload an entire clip on/around someone's head & upper body and it STILL DOES NOT KILL THEM. Same goes for the Needle Rifle. #2 - Grenades - Is it just me, or are these things completely messed up (well, compared to H2 and H3)? For some reason stickies don't seem to "stick" very often for me... and that's something I used to pride myself on was my sticking abilities :shades: . Frag grenades seem to have lost their throwing ability as well. In past Halo games, everyone could throw a frag grenade like they were Randy Johnson. In Reach, it feels like I have to stare at the ceiling and throw it just for it to go farther than 10 feet. They also seem to do some CRAZY damage. I can't tell you how many times I've been around a corner and thought "that won't hurt me, or if it does, it won't be too bad" and ended up getting half or more of my shields blown off. #3 - Sniping - I've never been too impressive at sniping. Well, let me be more specific: I've never been that good at head shots. Sure, if I had the sniper I could kill people with it easily (its a sniper...), but I was never very skilled at getting head shots. The 2nd game of matching I ever played on Reach, I randomly ran in to the sniper right at the beginning of the game: BOOM! head shot. BOOM! head shot. BOOM! head shot. Not only did I get first strike... I got a triple kill with 3 head shots. HOLD THE FREAKING PHONE. The sniping mechanics on Reach have been tweaked to the point of patheticness (I had to make up a word to describe it). Anybody and everybody can now be sniping machines, and I'm living proof. They've taken any and all skill out of it. #4 - Upgrades - I'm talking about thing sprint, jet packs, armor lock, and active camo. When I first heard about these little upgrades, I actually thought they would be a good idea. Boy was I wrong. Jet packs have made most of the maps virtually impossible to get away on. Oh, you spawned on the other side of the map after being killed? Too bad, I'm going to jet pack my way straight over to you and rape you AGAIN before you even know whats going on. I don't have much to complain about on the sprint & active camo, because those don't make the game impossible to enjoy. Armor lock is just as annoying as jet packs. I can't tell you how many times I've been blasting someone, just 1 shot away from the kill, when they go in to armor lock. All of the sudden I'm standing there like a fool when the rest of his team catches up to gang bang me while this dbag is invincible. #5 - Shields/Life - The shields, and your actually life in general, are flawed. Why change the normal flow of things? I never played H1 very much, but if I'm not mistaken was it not always 2 melees = dead? In Reach, it takes 2 melees and some shots, or 3 melees. This is insane. It's not just with melee, though... it seems like it takes so much more damage to kill someone. I realize that spraying with an assault rifle at someone and finishing them off with a melee is pretty newbish move, but there are times when people pop up and surprise you that you pretty much HAVE to use it. Not anymore I guess. There have been countless times where I've ran spraying at people & punched them, only to end up getting killed, because apparently in Reach it's going to take more than an assault rifle clip & a swift karate shop to the dome to take people down. #6 - Maps - The maps on Reach suck. Flat out. No way to sugar coat that one. They have too many twists and turns in them, and most of them seem pretty identical in design. The only "open" map you have is like 5 times bigger than Valhalla was in H3, and unless you're playing a Snipers match, you're in for an annoyingly short scoring game until time finally runs out. ------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm almost positive I've missed something. It's funny how you can have all these things you want to say, but once you start writing it all seems to turn to mush  . I don't know if anyone will acknowledge this little reply of mine, or if anyone will even bother reading it at all. But ever since I started playing Reach, I've been wanting to get all this off my chest. And for the record, I'm not bashing the game because I'm not any good at it. Clearly I'm not as good at it as I was in H3 (I die like 3 times as much on Reach), but I'm bashing the online play because I legitimately do not enjoy it.
  23. I searched & found no designated, official topic for the game. Personally, I'm excited. I've already gotten in pre-ordered at my local Gamestop. I didn't play the "demo" they had available a while back on Live, but some of my buddies did, and they said it was outstanding. I'm just as excited about the main mission as I am the online play  .
  24. Alright so I'm a bit confused. I put in my serial number (Gateway MT6460 Notebook) and got a long list of downloads. I'm assuming I needed to only look in the "My Media Reader" section. If I was correct with my assumption, there are 2 different downloads to choose from. #1 - D20009-000-001[Caution: Executable File] - Windows XP and Vista (32/64-bit) TI Media Card Reader Driver Supports: Windows Vista (64-bit), Windows Vista (32-bit), Windows XP and #2 - D20003-003-001[Caution: Executable File] - Media Card Reader Driver Version: TI 2.0.0.6 Supports: Windows Vista (64-bit), Windows Vista (32-bit), Windows XP I have no idea which to choose from. This is the point where I completely got dumbfounded  .
  25. Thanks Paw_Claw. I downloaded & ran Catalyst, but now I have another problem: instead of saying "Display Driver R300 stopped responding and has recovered", it is now saying "Display Driver ATIKMDAG stopped responding and has recovered". I find it amazingly difficult to believe that my computer is failing this much. It was purchased in mid 2007, and it runs like a champ 99% of the time.
