Contents: 1.1 - Introduction 2.1 - The Adventurer 2.2 - Current Statistics 2.3 - Bank 3.1 - Major Goals 3.2 - Minor Goals and Recent Progress 4.1 - In other news... 1.1 ~ Introduction Hi, I'm Will_H, Will Holmes, or just plain old Will, and I've decided to make my own blog. Please, enjoy. I've been playing RuneScape since about early 2006, and joined Tip.It in August. I've been here and played the game more or less constantly since then. Over much of my career, my primary goal was to complete every single quest, but otherwise ignore the big 99's that I could have got ages ago if I put my mind to it. It was only in the autumn of 2011 that I finally received my quest cape from the Wise Old Man of Draynor Village, who didn't even exist back when I joined the game. Over that time, I've drummed up a pretty balanced character, but aside from the Quest Cape, nothing to really show my achievements. When Dungeoneering came along, I joined the ranks of the Dungeonsweepers clan (who also go by the name of DGS), who taught me the ins and outs of the skill, and fired up my passion for it. After getting Dungeoneering 99, my first skillcape, I quit DGS to pursue a more relaxed career of training my skills in a balanced way, much like I did before. Shortly afterwards, I joined Clay Gods, a social clan that regularly holds events (such as penguin hunting, trawling, and whatever else is on their mind at the time), who has been battling a difficult but enthralling fight to upgrade their Clan Citadel to the maximum, and whom I remain with to this day. In addition, I have joined another Dungeoneering Friends group, who continue to provide me with good floors. Occasionally, I'll pop into Ezkaton's chat, and EoE's clan chat as a guest. Before I knew it, I was blasting through Dungeoneering again. As for me? I'm a Chemical Engineering university student with a penchant for high class things. If you see me around, tap me on the shoulder, and I'll put in a good word for you with the British gentry. 2.1 ~ The Adventurer This is my only character, Will Holmes, and his starting stats; 2.2 ~ Current Statistics 2.3 ~ Bank [hide=Big Picture][/hide] 3.1 ~ Major Goals 120 Dungeoneering ~ In Progress [hide=Level up pictures][hide=106 Dungeoneering][/hide][/hide] 99 Strength ~ In Progress I'll be ignoring training strength individually in the conventional way (armoured zombies/vyelords and the like) because getting 120 Dungeoneering will easily land me enough experience for 99 Strength. 3.2 ~ Minor Goals and Recent Progress 30/01/2012 ~ Minor Goal: 90 Defence ~ Complete [hide] Alright, minor goal is 90 defence for Promethium armour. Getting 120 Dungeoneering sounds silly without it. Vyrelords ahoy! The Bonus XP weekend gave me just enough of a push to net me 90 defence on 17/03/2012. Thanks to everyone for their support! [hide=Training with the 'lords] [/hide] [hide=Level up pictures] [hide=87 Defence] [/hide] [hide=88 Defence, Total 2000] [/hide] [hide=94 Constitution] [/hide] [hide=89 Defence] [/hide] [hide="90 Defence] [/hide][/hide][/hide] 17/02/2012 ~ Fire Cape #2 ~ In Progress Getting a second fire cape for the purpose of sacrificing for the Fight Kiln. This is proving more difficult because the "deflection prayers only" method no longer works and I have to do it properly. 31/01/2012 ~ Tier 7 Clan Citadel ~ Complete [hide] "Clay Gods" Clan Citadel is currently on a drive for Tier 7 Citadel, which I'm part of, so I may as well list this as a goal of mine. Estimated completion in two weeks. We just upgraded to Tier 7 at 12:00 noon, 21/02/2012, congratulations to everyone at Clay Gods! [/hide] 19/04/2012 ~ Goliath Gloves ~ In Progress I'm getting bored of RFD gloves 10. Let's take these hand-warmers up a notch. Hit List: Nomad Ayuni, Leeuni, and Eruni Dagannoth Sentinels The Untouchable Balance elemental Ice Demon 4.1 ~ In other news... After an unexpected hiatus, I'm back! Posting will resume shortly, and hopefully longly too. Ezk is ossim. As always, good luck to everyone with their goals, and may good times be had in the future.

26-Jan-2012 - Dev Blog: Re-sculpting the TzHaar
I remember this argument back when the fight cave was added, and the consensus was a pretty resounding no. Nowadays, with the new equipment, that argument is even weaker. The fire cape is interesting and unique. Throwing it onto the very large pile of buyable things is boring and does not benefit gameplay.

No, the restaurant is the boss, there's really no getting around that one. The idea of the customers being the boss of the waiters is just rhetoric that means nothing contractually. A good waiter treats customers as if they were employed directly by the customer only because that is what is expected from them in their contract with the restaurant. They could be completely rude to the customer, but the decision to fire them would ultimately fall to the restaurant, not the offended customer. The payment of wages therefore must go via the employer and then to the waiter, with all of the minimum wage laws applying. Transactions that don't go along the contractual route can only be charitable, and none of the restaurant's business.

I'm interested in the idea that the US and UK viewpoints clash on this subject, but I'm not entirely sure whether that's true. Yes, our laws differ, but as is the case on many things, the typical public opinion doesn't always match with the law. Does anyone here actually think that it's okay to include tips in the minimum wage, and if so why?

1/22/2012 New Members' Pricing
Well, my clan's ended up galvanising around the citadel, it does work as a clan feature, although it does need more functioning things. The Barbecue and the Clan Rings deal out quite a lot of XP, and we're only Tier 6. The Loyalty stuff has grown on me, personally, but I can imagine why people don't like it. It doesn't make any sense lore-wise, though, and that really should be fixed.

1/22/2012 New Members' Pricing
I'd like to see how this compares with inflation, because it has been high recently. I'm not fussed about the prices in the slightest, this game is still very cheap for a subscription MMO.

Tipping
I think what's important here is that tipping generally applies when you can go the extra mile in a job. If I delivered hot food, I could deliver it within a few seconds of the advertised maximum delivery time and shove the box into your arms without a care in the world, or I could deliver it really early, be polite at the door and get a tip. That's why tips exist, it's to encourage service beyond what's strictly acceptable. If I worked at a fast food place, I couldn't really do much to help the customer beyond taking in an order and shoving the food on a tray, which is on the job description. Hence, no tips.

Tipping
I've come to understand that there's a big difference in how the tipping system works in different countries. Tipping is your way of saying to your waiter if they provided a particularly good service in a restaurant. Not tipping is perfectly fine if you have received bad service. In the UK, putting a minimum tip on the bill, or a 'service charge', is considered extremely bad form since it assumes that the service was good in the first place, and is likely to cause the customers not to return. All mandatory costs should be included in the menu, written in the local currency, not as a percentage. I find the concept of people potentially being paid a salary below minimum wage, then the tips used to make up for it, is repulsive and immoral. Making sure the tips go to the waiters who were given them, after the minimum wage, is the spirit of the law in the UK, but I don't know how well it works in practice.

Something fun.
Castle Wars is probably the very definition of pointless fun in Runescape.

Tip.It Times - 22nd January 2012
Just read the first one. I'd just like to point out that Prayer is similar in phraseology as Magic or Attack, it's a field of study rather than meaning "someone who prays", unlike Hunter or Slayer. Other than that, I still agree with the idea, it should be "Hunting" and "Slaying". Oh, and I agree with the rest of the first article. "Hunting" needs an update, because it's got a lot of unrealised potential.
