Germany and France won the battle in trying to save Greece!
It's neither. This has nothing to do with morality, and bailing out Greece will cost the Eurozone a lot of money. The reason they did it is because not bailing them out will cost them even more money. It's averting a disaster by making a sacrifice, but it's Greece's duty to the rest of the world to get its finances in order the best it can. As Cameron said, "It's in our best interests". Hopefully the other countries shouldn't actually get into the state Greece did, the UK sent a significant loan to Ireland a while ago which should help them get along, but Italy and Spain we can only hope and pray about right now. It doesn't help that all of these countries have erroneously taken on the mismanaged and conceptually flawed Euro, but we have to live with it because breaking it up now would make it even worse.

Masking the True Problem
I'd say that you have to get rid of the infection before you can heal the wound, even if it means the procedure is temporarily painful. One thing that I have seen is that with the update, the amount of customer trust in Jagex has risen quite a lot. It's that kind of trust that pushes the word-of-mouth advertisements that Runescape previously thrived on. Tackling and eliminating the 'grinding' aspects of the game without cheapening the effort required, which basically means adding varied and interesting content will keep that momentum going. Make no mistake, Jagex did the right thing, they just need to keep going and make this game fun again. Distractions and diversions are good, but what we really need is content that comes integrated with training skills. It may be worth actually slowing down the rate of xp given for doing things the traditional way, and then providing bonuses for doing more complicated alternative things that require thought on the spot to carry out, perhaps as a random event while training in the traditional way. Repetition should really be discouraged. I personally love those moments when I'm tasked to go to an obscure location, and mentally calculate a route using the various teleportation networks in the game. Sometimes they'll involve using a fairy ring in feldip hills to catch a glider, or a lunar home teleport to grab a teleport to house tablet, and then diving in a house portal. Getting there faster is a little reward for thinking on my feet, and I'd like more of those little moments.

Server Shutdowns
It's only a sign of a dying game of legitimate players are leaving. What I'm hoping is that Jagex gets a lot of money from court settlements, or even winning court cases, reinvests in the game, then goes for a massive advertising campaign for a 'bot-free' RuneScape. Then, reopen the servers. Profit.

25-Oct-2011 - Bot-Nuking Day: Making RuneScape Fairer and More Fun!
That's because the people on here have the common sense to grasp that it will be a day at the minimum before anyone can say anything of the sort... Not saying you don't have common sense, just that's why you're not getting the instant gratification you're seeking so desperately. Well - if I didn't know any better, I'd say that I was just insulted. :shame: ... and I think my point is valid. So far, I've seen nothing to indicate that bots aren't working. And I have seen NO evidence whatsoever that any accounts have been banned. And considering the "hype" surrounding a "BOT NUKE" scenario, one would think that such indications would be broad-based and instantaneous. That is, you know, one of the principals of a "nuke". This seems more like a "bot war on terror", that's going to dredge on for years and years ... I'd say that Kimberly has a point. You're actually making soundbites now and making huge assumptions. Be patient, and we'll come to a consensus once all of the hype has died down.

Your first 99?
Although I got a quest cape first, which I think is more impressive than most 99's, my only 99 is Dungeoneering. Plan to get 99 strength soon.

21-Oct-2011 - Bot-Busting and Bonuses For All
I actually think they planned it to be this way for a few months now. I'm sure they only added that bot busting insider session because they realized that they could get this bot fix out in time for Runefest. They probably wanted to have a session to finally be able to boast that they solved the problem. (Assuming this fix is successful) So it really is a giant trumped-up PR event rather than an actual, honest solution to a very serious problem. I don't know how people can place their faith in the company blindly anymore; it's clear they're talking out of both sides of their mouth. But isn't the whole bot issue solely a PR problem in itself? If the public didn't care about bots, nobody, especially Jagex, would consider it a problem. There's really no logical way that Jagex could take out the bots without it being a PR event, so let them. If it does what they say it does, then they deserve all of the PR accolades they can get. If they don't, they deserve the PR disaster that they will get. That's public relations for you. I'm going to get a bucket of popcorn tomorrow, methinks.

Jagex possible starting up selling in game items?
This sums up my thoughts. What we've seen pretty heavily indicates that they're going to take on bots on a technical level, instead of throwing in the towel and doing micro-transactions. As far as I can see, it's just a bit of ambiguous wording/advertising placement that some people are taking the wrong way.
-
Top players.
Not necessarily. Jagex provides some top players with all expenses paid tickets to RuneFest (that means transportation, accommodation, and the actual RuneFest ticket). And if a lot of these top players are simply young (which seems to be true in a lot of cases), they're likely not supporting themselves, but their families are supporting them. Two screens for a computer isn't honestly that expensive. It could be done for like.. $300 (or less). Having two screens is really common in the gaming community. And then RuneScape itself doesn't require a high-speced computer to run. I can vouch for this. Another screen is probably the most cost effective thing you can do to upgrade a computer, and the number of people realising this is going up. It's not just gaming, either, general productivity is improved drastically. After all, grinding away at armoured zombies is best done while browsing the internet or watching a film or a TV programme on the other monitor. To top it off, most computers and graphics cards have two monitor outputs as standard, so it's practically plug and play.

Favorite Words
I got a good one: Dissonance. I think It's because of all of the 's' sounds. Sounds like Parseltongue if you say it quietly.

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
Give it a try, there's really no harm in it. If you don't like it, then you don't have to watch any more. If you do, you've discovered what many people, including me, believe is a wonderful show. Honestly, eventually you don't conciously register the art style, much like it's very easy to unconsciously accept words like 'everypony' after you hear it enough. EDIT: Oh, and I was also going to say that when Luna first used the royal 'we', I thought she was referring to her dual personality. Now, she's accepted that many people will still call her Nightmare Moon and now just rolls with it. That doesn't sound like a safe mental game to play in the long term, it's like if a bullied child who was called names started to accept that and played the role just to lessen the personal impact. It all depends on Luna's mental strength, and seeing how not being loved turned out last time... Gosh, I could ramble about this for ages. I think I'll resist. Woona fan are we? A wittle. EDIT: Ah, who am I kidding, Luna is best pony.

Libya Uprising thread
I'm not sure whether there's any point in talking about how Gaddafi died until we get the results of the post-mortem, which was a wise thing to do instead of burying him immediately according to Islamic tradition. The NTC wouldn't have enough information to say if it was crossfire, an execution, or something else at the time, so it's not lies, it's just rumours which may or may not be true. Ah yes another Libya expert, just like those in the media who have been harping on about "tribal war" for so long now. Didn't they expect the blood to run in the streets of Tripoli because "this is a major bastion of support for Bu Shafshoufa" ? How did that end up? Oh yeah the city was pretty much liberated internally hours before outside forces reached Janzour and a day before they reached Tajoura. As much as you make a few good points, my impression from the media was the correct view that the number of Gaddafi loyalists in Tripoli was a pretty unknown number. Thankfully, it was low, but it wasn't non-existent. I'm sure you can appreciate that there would be a higher percentage of support for him in the city that he poured quite a bit of money into, versus a city such as Benghazi which he openly distrusted. What can drive a man to fight for him though isn't an exact science. My point is, concerns for the bloodshed in Tripoli weren't unfounded, just be thankful it didn't happen. Libya's got the best shot it has ever had to becoming a free, accountable and democratic country. I suppose we should expect the Libyan team to be under the new flag at London 2012?

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
I think they nailed it, or at least did the best job they could have in 22(?) minutes. Enough to get Luna's character shaped, but also leads loads of questions. I also noticed how little empathy Pinkie has, she shields herself in so much positivity and, well, Laughter, that she really has a hard time thinking about how others are reacting to her. What with Luna trying to get everypony to call her by her real name, and not be afraid of her, when Pinkie still pretends to be scared and screams "AAAAH! NIGHTMARE MOON!", you can tell it hurts Luna quite a lot. It's tragic, and I love it. More please! Give it a try, there's really no harm in it. If you don't like it, then you don't have to watch any more. If you do, you've discovered what many people, including me, believe is a wonderful show. 21-Oct-2011 - Bot-Busting and Bonuses For All
Well, I didn't expect this. If this lives up to what it promises, well, they might have just saved the game. I'm going to join the optimistic wing of the "Seeing is believing" party. "ClusterFlutterer" *snicker*

Libya Uprising thread
Yeah, Gaddafi should have been put on trial, but the nature of the situation made capturing him alive really unlikely. He's a dictator who has ordered his own people to be killed, and then deposed by a popular uprising and engaged in a civil war. He was then stubborn enough to stay and fight in the last stronghold in the country that supported to him until he was practically the last one left. Is it really surprising he was killed? A trial would have been better because we might be able to extract information about incidents such as the Lockerbie bombing that we otherwise could not. There's probably a few important facts that have died with him. On the plus side, I'm really surprised that he was actually found and neutralised in the first place. That in itself has safely removed any excuse the NTC could have for not declaring 'Liberation' in the constitution and set deadlines for elections and transition to democracy. In fact, I've heard they're going to declare it tomorrow.

Troll Invasion gear
Since you've got that healing/restoring table, and the trolls aren't terribly accurate, your priority is offence. I personally use void melee and deflector, barrows gloves, rapier, fury, d boots, and pack 2 super strength, 2 super attack, 1 prayer pot, and some cheap food for emergencies such as monkfish. I also take my chaotic crossbow and some cheap broad-tipped bolts to lure Poorly Cooked Karambwan from the valley, but any crossbow and any bolts will do. If you're careful and watch out for Dynamite, you won't have to use the prayer potions or food at all. If I had claws, I'd swap the deflector and barrows gloves for a dragon defender and void gloves, to maintain the boost while spamming the special attack. Troll Invasion isn't really a challenge so long as you're aware of the supply table and abuse it as much as possible, and keep Dynamite as a #1 priority. Normal everyday melee slayer armour (swapping a slayer helm for a helm of neitiznot of course) and weapons will cover you.

Frost dragons have a new attack (gf bots for a week or two)
A bit of hyperbole, don't you think? Not even. I made more at Nex in a week than I would at frosts in a month, with way less of a headache and competition. That's because you're maxed in all of your combat skills. You shouldn't be doing Frosts at your level, that's completely intended.

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
Really? I thought it was really entertaining. That said, they can't get away with putting character-driven stuff as something that's suggested instead of the actual story again. We all knew Twi had problems, she had a miserable childhood, but I'd rather see why her childhood was so miserable, not "Twilight's out of her comfort zone and goes crazy". By the looks of it, every one of the *ahem* mane cast has now properly snapped at some point for various reasons. I'm going to wait for the Luna episode before passing judgement, because her backstory is a goldmine, and it's the writing team's proving grounds for this season. I'm fine with this episode being how it was, but they can't get away with it again. Also, Celestia is scary when she's angry. I mean, don't get me wrong. I lol'd a lot today while watching the episode. I just wish they'd realize that the show isn't for us; it is for the little kids. Another thing they need to realize is that the fanbase should conform to them, not the other way around. Throwing in a hidden Easter egg is ok, but it was painstakingly obvious that they didn't even try hiding the eggs today. Ah, I understand where you're coming from now and I agree. Again, I'll wait for the Luna episode, because one show doesn't make a trend.

new spell for lunar spell book(note item)
It's best if we keep something like that as a reward for nearly maxing out a very difficult skill like Summoning. Remote banking has its niche, which remote noting is a marginally weaker version of. What we should do to finish off Magic, and it is pretty much finished anyway, is improve Borrowed Power.

Worlds being muted
There are a few reports of this on the RSOF, so I think it's safe to say it's true: [qfc]14-15-745-63275144[/qfc] I really wouldn't be surprised if this was related to stopping ad-bots.

CERN Experiment Indicates Faster-Than-Light neutrinos
If the aim of these physicists was to bring Einstein's theories crumbling down, then they are going to do everything it takes to do that. The amount of fame, funding, awards, etc that they will now receive as a result will be astounding. Career-wise, they are completely set. It would be a mistake to assume that scientists are not human or incapable of skewing experiments to get what they want. I'm not saying the results are bogus, but there needs to be very extensive testing before we proclaim that Einstein's work is dead because these discoveries can completely change the way that we understand basic laws of nature---including gravity. That is not something to be throwing around lightly. You're completely right about the agenda and directive of the scientists, but when it comes down to it, Einstein's model won't be proclaimed 'dead' no matter what happens. We still use Newton's laws as extremely good approximations for lots of macroscopic physics, we just do it knowing that it's not the whole story. Similarly, any paradigm shift as a result of faster-than-light particles won't forget Einstein's work, and we'll still use it as an approximation, but we'd also do it knowing that it's not the whole story. A common explanation I've heard is that the neutrino may be jumping from space to space a short distance away via another dimension Portal style, so at no point does it actually break the light speed barrier, it just appears to do that to the simple distance/time measurement. If that's true, we'd end up saying that Einstein's model still works, but only in 4-dimensional spacetime, which real space is similar, but not identical, to.

11-Oct-2011 - Update on our ongoing battle against bots
One really visible action is the fact there's very few RWT-advertising bots about. I think that's a huge step in itself. Agreed. The ad bots are much more annoying than the skill bots. More annoying, yeah, but they're still both problems. I used to enjoy a trip to Frost Dragons as a reasonably decent source of income. This is fundamentally a step we should all want to hear, but you can't climb a mountain with only a single step in the right direction. I await further news, and I'd love to hear ideas from other people, players and mods alike, on how this problem will be dealt with.

We're back!
Aaah, it's good to be back.
