  1. good work folks, quick question. How do you keep the the outline of each brush stroke from taking over the picture? if I want to make a solid patch of color it always has tons of lines in it.
  2. Yes, and I eat smart teenagers with ketchup :)
  3. Woot shading experiment. Kind of fun for a first try. http://artpad.art.com/gallery/?iaccqy9vxt8 Preview:
  4. Is the canvas one in the same site? No you can get it by typing it in a browser, or just going to this link. http://www.hamiltondraws.com/?link=44 Download it then head over to Here : It will explain how event files work, and you can see some straight out awesome paintings from square one. Also you can do sessions together networked so you can each take half of the canvas, etc. the later pages have more active links on the wpe (event files). Page 4 or so seemed particularly good. also there is another site where they have hundreds of anime event files that you can watch. it is listed there too.
  5. hey folks, if you want a program that has actual transparency, water colors, adjustable brushes, etc. and still allows for you to watch the whole process try open canvas 1...it is free but I might try this just for something to do. The severe lack of colors, (espeically white and black for traditional oils lighting effects) and the semi transparent, non adustable brushes..really make this limited.
  6. hm yes you appear to have two light sources on either side..and a broken jaw. The body is pretty good though :)
  7. fixed the eyebrow..might have to do a bit more shading, another wrinkle or two in the forehead....
  8. yeah the eyebrow bothers me too :)
  9. I got your message, and considered doing it, but I think you will find that there are others who are better at photo manips. Not to mention that a banner the size of that thin one would be very tough to make work.
  10. I am unfamiliar with the character referenced, but nice work in general. He looks more jaded than angry...despondent? Anyway nice cell shading, and a great little splotchy bg :)
  11. This was fun to work on. I was mainly just going for the expression. Learned some things from watching other people paint recently, including some new shading ideas.
  12. Some of you may already be familiar with the capabilities of the free program open canvas. But for those not, you can export event files. They show the WHOLE PROCESS of the painting in full motion, including all the menus. It is awesome to watch people work. Just 1. download open canvas 2. download a wpe file and watch it go. Some hints...go to the "show" menu and click "show with weight" if you want them to go more real time. Otherwise it zooms through and gives an overview. Some of them also have two paintings going at once since you can do a paint together function over the net. Here is a link with wpe files and more info. http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showth ... ge=1&pp=60 (Some of the links are dead, especially in the earlier posts, but there are a still a bunch of good ones).
  13. hehe you should have seen the old version, far more blurry....but new works should get over that a bit as I am hardening up the brushes.

sure do :), and nice job princess! A lamp might be a fun way to practice light values! Oh and folks, feel free to post stock images and challenge each other to draw the same thing!
  15. I was sitting around the other night wanting to practice painting, but not wanting to work too hard thinking of what to paint. I wound up painting my headset mic. Yeah, nothing that will win any awards, but I found it tough to get the smooth plastic feel, and all the angles and curves. I am used to doing organic stuff with more flexibility I never quite finished it up, but it gave me a good mental workout. So I figured I would challenge you all a bit. Find something in your house that is hard to draw, paint, whatever and go to it. Then post a photo if you feel like it so we can try too. Post your results just for fun. Don't get so caught up in making rs cash that you don't challenge yourself! You can also post stock images that are challenging and see who can get the closest. A little practice everyday doesn't hurt :) If I get around to it I will redo my drawing lessons from the old scape board and add some new resources I found....including a free program for figure drawing reference! (and yes I know it is fuzzy :) Was still doing soft brushes then)
  16. Well I will have tons more time to do it now as I finally quit rs. That dagger though is driving me nutty! Skin..actually I made version with super smooth shading transitions (Just got corel painter, and it OWNS!) and might use it...looked pretty good...although it is the opposite of what you said haha. The boots..yeah gotta look for something on those. AS for a different color....well one could certainly do that but generally at least a tang of the original metal is present....I will consider that option.
  17. ah wait, it is all clear now...er...those things on the back are obviously thrusters, but at first looked like LIGHTS. The whole implied motion of the ship is making the back look like the front. It also seems quite non-aerodynamic of the front is actually the one facing the fight. Ie...it LOOKS like it is descending to the planet, the part we see foremost is the front and it looks like it is about to crash. If your idea was to show it thrusting to the scene I totally missed it until the 5 th lookover. for that matter I just noticed the missles coming from the far ship...I thought it was crashing too. Ah well....I actually think it would look better as a scene with the ships crashing and the planetary defense in great peril. There is far more implied action in a scene of peril/crashing, and the seeming crushed hopes of the planet than in some battle that just has two ships about to fight some unknown assailant. Especially given that in the current scene the assailants seem to be using similar ordinance, of similar str etc. It is far mor moving to see an unknown , mysteriously overwhelming force pummeling a society that might yet..despite it all, rally.
  18. tttia replied to Chii's topic in Art and Media
that already looks brushed. Why not try something that is just a line drawing and that is more...er...interesting?
  19. For some reason the scene conveyed to me is him crashing after some damage.....and the planet under siege. Not sure how that can be overcome, but maybe it is just me anyway. Complimentary..yeah that can certainly help set thing off.....Why not try having the atmosphere engulf the other ship but this one be slightly free of it still and with a more natural coloration? As for a high sheen steel look...naw that would be nasty in my opinion...but who knows. (shameless commercial/plea following, since you commented earlier.... if you have time check out my reworked/sharpened/with hair and belly button version of my recent work. I am trying to figure out how to overcome the crazy line syndrome. Certainly though my brushes were too soft.) http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=155990
  20. Great work! I liked the character when i saw it on the photo background..but thought..what is she thinking! But this is much better. Great castle, and the animations...except for the breating one, are good. I tried to animate some breathing once too...pretty tough. This one is too abrupt . I would probably leave the smoke out too. It looks odd just appearing there, and you don't have enough frames within the file limit to make it slowly roll out.
  21. Nice pixel ploy :) I would have to see it reduced size, obviously at this size it looks a bit different. The smoke on the lower left looks odd..but since it is a concept I assume that big blob part will be fixed. The metalic shading is nice and smooth, but the left side is off, with the highlights coming from more the front. . I like the idea of throwing color on the ships that froth had. OF course he always had gone for more monochromatic works :) It currently appears that he is crashing, not about to get in a fight..is that the desired effect? If you have that much fire raining down, and explosions, perhaps some earlier craters on the ground? scoring marks?
  22. New version, lots of revision...harder lines internally and externally, as well as additions of hair, more facial toning etc. I had my brushes way too soft...about 10 percent hardness often. I also had some graphite smudges etc. Some of the lines were not recoverable, but I tried to sharpen the ones I could and keep them more within the lines.
  23. she said she scanned them from pencil drawings..in fact those are the stages on the first post....
  24. actually I like the subtlety of it. It doesn't distract from the main focus of the face. Incidentally froth, since I am working on my own brushing given folks determination that my brushes are too soft....what brush settings do you use for each stage? What hardness? saturation? opacity? etc. Which ones for the initial areas, or highlights etc. I understand if you don't want to answer..but I would appreciate it if you did!
  25. those helmets get hot blurry..yeah, ah well. steroids...ya just don't get it..that is alright though.
