  1. It's disappointing to hear this. I was really looking forward to seeing how they would overcome removing a lot of the grind in Stellar Dawn. I suppose Transformers is far more important money wise as it has a higher guarantee of success.

  2. Moving this to the Programming subforum as it's probably a bit more suited there.

Personally I'd recommend Python to start with. It's simple for beginners but can do some really powerful stuff if you know how to use it.

I don't have any tutorials offhand but try and do some work with the following topics:

    Variable Types

    If Statements

    While Loops

    For Loops

    Modules

    Creating Functions

    Lists

Once you get a good grasp of the fundamentals you can start looking into some more difficult stuff and a lot of the things you learn (loops, boolean algebra) can be applied to other languages.

  3. Firstly I'd suggest you read this announcement to help you beef up your security.

    1. Is it theoretically possible to use one's e-mail (if you have the password) to crack one's RS account.

Yes, if they have access to your email then all they have to do is send a request and a link is sent to your email to reset your password on RS.

    2. Can someone reccomend a good antivirus that would clean my computer from any keyloggers?

I personally scan weekly with Microsoft Security essentials (which you have installed), Malwarebytes, and Spybot S&D.

    3. The IT guy installed some kind of antivirus and I have 3 new programs that I have not installed - Microsoft Security essentials, Microsoft powershell, Microsoft Silverlight - could any of these programs be used by him to keep tabs on my RS passwords or anything else? (It might be a dumb question, but I am not well versed in computer technology - my expertiese lie elsewhere)

Microsoft Security Essentials is just an antivirus program, silverlight is similar to Adobe flash except it runs certain microsoft visual applications, and powershell is used for command line scripts. No need to worry about any of them.

    4. Any other suggestions to keep my account safe. (I can do format C by myself, but I must transfer files back and forth so I am thinking that it might not help me - I'd be just taking the keylogger and putting it onto my memory stick and then putting it on a newly formatted computer.

To be honest, I don't think you were keylogged. Run the appropriate virus scans and if nothing turns up your most likely fine. From what you described it seems very likely it was just an email hack and your main concern should be keeping your email secured.

  4. i joined at the worst time....i dont wanna spam forums to get 150 posts v.v....guess ill have to wait :c

Lately we've been holding recruitment drives for the different staff sections (crew, mod, TMHT, editorial panel) a couple of times a year between all of them. So while you may not make the post requirements now, if you're an active and helpful user there's always a chance of another recruitment drive happening at a later date that you can apply for. All of the teams are also always on the lookout for users to nominate & invite as well so there's always a chance of being brought onto one of the teams anytime throughout the year. :)

  5. Backburner is awesome, but once you get enough practice using air blasts I find it's not as good as the degreaser + axtinguisher combo. (Airblasting heavies off of the edge on the first stage of thunder mountain payload is just too much fun) Just depends on the situation I guess.

  6. I can see this becoming an issue, if two people have 99 slayer, one is a randomer, the team might decide to kick that person, on the chance that there is a Hex :wall:

Best thing to do is dg with friends imo.

He was the only one able to pot to 99 though so the others on his team were essentially just being jerks to him. Either way I'd second playing with friends or at least join a reputable dungeoneering clan where you can get to know a lot of the people.

  7. You mentioned that you should use it from 71+ and 91+, but that at 81-91, the xp is comparable to blackjacking. Would you suggest switching to blackjacking for the optimal xp, or just continue at PP through those levels?

If you're fast at clicking or use mousekeys it would probably be worthwhile to do blackjacking to at least level 81 where Pyramid Plunder will start to give you equal or better xp/hr. From there you could do Pyramid Plunder all the way to level 99 for the best experience. I also have heard that thieving monkey knife fighters might be even better xp than Pyramid Plunder so it might be worthwhile to check them up. (Sorry I don't know much about xp rates for Monkey knife fighters)

If you find that you can't maintain a fast clicking rate when blackjacking then you might want to try Pyramid Plunder sooner as it's not as click intensive. It really just depends on your gameplay style.

  8. DAZ 3D is offering $800 worth of 3D modelling software for free until the end of February. I've never used it but I thought I'd post a link for anyone who might want it.

As far as I can see there's no catch besides having to sign up for their email newsletter and having to download it within 5 days of getting it. I'm guessing they hope people will get the software for free and then buy the expensive model and texture packs they sell.

I'll probably try it out even though I've never done any 3D graphic work, not sure if it's any good or not compared to the other alternatives out there.

  9. It's kind of annoying because I decided to take a break and not play while school is in due to lack of time, so I'd have to pay the more expensive price if I resubscribed again in the summer. However to be fair it is still one of the cheapest MMOs to subscribe to and I can't blame them for a price increase every couple of years. As long as they still offer decent discounts for 3 month/6 month subscriptions I don't mind paying an extra couple of dollars. Just means I'll have to play lots more during the months I subscribe to get my money's worth.

Also as a side note at least Jagex will make more money off of P2P bots that subscribe and get banned soon after.

  10. A lot of great memories happened at the TET events. Sad to see the team finally come to a close after having such a successful 7 1/2 years. :(

I wish I could have attended more events over the past year but sadly work always conflicted with the Saturday events and TETAU didn't fit my timezone. I'll definitely never forget all the memories made during 2009-2010 when I was able to be there for almost every event.

Here's just a few pictures I had saved over my time attending the events, sorry I don't know which events they are all from but most of them range from 2009 to mid 2010 with a few from 2007-2008.

[spoiler=Lots of Pictures!]Pictures include the following events (They were the names on my folders :P):

    elemental

    halloween

    brink of reality

    twisted finale

    alice & wonderland

    iron invasion

    cabbage event

Thanks for all the great times TET. <3:

  11. The drop in users might also be attributed to member status lapsing and the subsequent loss of highscore status after 2 weeks.

I thought that too at first but it wouldn't make sense since that would mean that large groups of people lost membership on the exact same day (over 82k for the first drop). Also there's no set amount of days between each drop either if it was an automatic update of the highscores once a week.

  12. I can login now (still face a few bots..) but can only seen a tainted and dying game. Perhaps this is why RS's own founders have all abandoned it.

I'd address the issue of who that regular content is going to, Sylpheed. Because when you look at the content released over the past twelve months, you really have to question whether it's aimed at attracting new customers, or keeping the ones who are already playing. Any business which fails to do a good enough job at attracting new customers is a dying one, in most people's eyes, and the recent trend in membership numbers speaks for itself.

I'd like to invite you both to look at the number of current members since the beginning of this year here. With the exception of a the weekly drops (players banned most likely) the curves are upward sloping. Sure they are nowhere near the 1M+ members they had a few years ago but that's the effect bots have had on the game. If the current trend continues the member count could very well reach 1M by the end of 2012.

Runescape was a dieing game because of the bots, but now that Jagex has won this case, nuked bots, and have made so much progress I don't see it spiralling to a dismal end anytime soon.

  13. I personally use a Logitech MX518. It's pretty much just a slightly different style of the G500 without the weights option/missing two of the programmable buttons but it's really comfortable. The Razer Naga looks kind of uncomfortable to use, but it might just be something that you have to get used to over time.

It looks less ergonomic than it really is. The right side is contoured so that your ring finger rests in the contour and your pinky wraps around the side. The buttons are easily hit with my thumb and the only ones I really have to try to hit are 10-11-12. The scroll wheel is nice and the wheel, numbers, and razer logo are backlit blue. The software you download includes macro recording and dpi up to 5600. I've always owned logitech but I'm starting to like this product. The best part about it all is the cord, I've hated corded mice for one reason and that's tangling and the cord getting bunched up and in the way. Razer's cords are braided and do not tangle.

I guess the pictures just don't do it justice then, especially since it has braided cords which I really wish would become a standard for a lot of wired tech.
