How can the Maximum External Data Transfer Rate: 300 MBps be the same for both drives? Does that mean that they are both the same speed? Does SSD have a shorter life span then HDD?
-
Is this Hard Drive a good deal? Are they noisy? I am also considering this one.

Downloading is legal in Canada but only audio recordings for personal use (you must own the original though); doing so by p2p software is illegal because it uploads the files. Bill C-32 and ACTA could make it illegal, in C-32 if there is a DRM on the media then it is illegal to bypass it, it also would introduce a max fine of $5000 for non-commercial infringers. This blog will give much more information.

What are the concerns? I would like to know before I start; I may try on a virtual box first.

After reading the motherboard user guide it looks like that is the best ram it will support. What does this mean, I have always completely wiped the hard drive to install a new operating system, this time I was going to try an inplace upgrade to keep the user impact to a minimum. Two computers I am thinking of upgrading to win 7 an xp and a vista. Will it work?
-
If I want to add more ram, does it have to be the same? The ram I now have. If I upgrade an operating system and later find incompatible software on it, am I going to have any problems uninstalling the software?

About a week ago I got a MSN message from a trusted contact that asked if a picture was of me I clicked on it. I have since scanned with spybot, now uninstalled; malwarebytes, currently installed; panda scan, my AV; some program called clean virus msn and I have uninstalled msn and installed the newest version. After all that do you think I could still be infected?
-
Sometimes when I click on a link to a page in some forums, (not this one) I get about 24 sites added to my back button; most of them are called boostfinder, a pay per click search engine these show up in my history also. What causes this is it a banner ad or something?
-
It is not on a removable drive. Now the icon next to the docx file has started to move on reboot instead. It is a .txt file.

Does anyone use the remote desktop feature of live essentials? Do I have to be logged in with the same live id on both computers? The computers I wish to use this on are in two different cities. For anyone that finds this post, you do not have to be logged in with the same live id on both computers.

Every time I restart my computer or install software, one icon on my desktop moves. The icon is a .docx; my icons are scattered about the desktop in groups, auto arrange and align to grid is off. I have shortcuts, folders and other .docx files this is the only one that moves. I cannot think of anything that would cause this, any ideas?

A while ago, after I installed IE9 my task bar stopped auto hiding so I ran this as I always do to fix it @echo off taskkill /f /IM explorer[Caution: Executable File] explorer[Caution: Executable File] this crashed IE9, I could not fix it so I reinstalled it; only to find none of the shortcuts that point to the 32bit work. I copied the 64bit to the spot where the 32bit was and everything worked again. Do you think that messed up java? I am going to try reinstalling java again. The Java reinstall seems to have worked.
-
I tried playing runscape after a very long break and it says Java is not installed. Java had just finished updating, I tried that force Java option; I have ensured that Java is enabled in internet explorers advanced options and control panel. So does Java work in IE9 beta?
-
It looks like Norton security scan has a problem with it reinstalling automatically on reboot; try these possible solutions. I use CCleaner to remove startup entries.

I am running vista x64 The search box and URL box have been combined. Chrome had this. If your default search provider does not have search suggestions you cannot switch to a different provider easily. The browser is extremely clean. The design is flawless and all the cluttery toolbars have been removed, and the icons have been compressed. Chrome had this as well. It is currently not customizable, I sometimes need to change the text size; to get that button I need a whole new bar (command bar) for one button! The browser now has pinned sites. Finally. This was the feature that caused me to try IE9, only to find out that it is just a shortcut on the quick launch bar (I can do that with IE8). I do like the tear away tabs though.

First the internet is not anonymous; the only thing preventing everyone from knowing my name is the difficulty to go through legal means to obtain it. As for the ability to police the internet I do not see how that is possible even if there was no anonymity, for example let us say this thread was an illegal conversation and we were all guilty; if it is the websites country of origin that is responsible for reporting the infractions to other countries, there is about 20 unique people that posted on this thread from quite possibly 20 different countries. That is much work for little pay off just for one site. Tip.it seems to be hosted in the USA; how many sites are in the USA that would need to be monitored?
-
I was thinking more along the lines of an ad-hoc system, what would limit their distance? For example if we were to implement something like Netsukuku on a global scale.
-
Is there a theoretical or practical limit to Wi-Fi in terms of distance?

Wiping all traces of a website off a computer?
VARN replied to Orpheus's topic in Tech and Computers
CCleaner can remove the history and any cookies set by the site. Windows can format a drive, it all depends who you are hiding the information from; that will determine the extent you need to go to destroy the data. -
Was it the Bios you were updating? I understand "it won't even turn on/boot" to mean no lights no beeps after you press the power button?
