    Sarah Palin

Which of those aren't bad things? Also, you're actually saying that you'd rather vote for the wrong side than a side who gets it right eventually? By the way, if you think Obama flip-flops: http://www.bi30.org/wordpress/flipflopper.htm All politicians flip-flop. It's all about making the right decision in the end, or before it's too late. The only reason's politicians support things right as they come out is because either the feel that it's what the party wants, or it's what will end up being the law/standard. If they're right they say "Hey, look! I was right all along!" If they're wrong, they simply flop to the other side as quietly as possible.

    Sarah Palin

Sarah Palin's wiki so far. I'm having trouble finding a lot of positives in this. [hide=]Shortly after taking office, Palin rescinded 35 appointments made by Murkowski in the last hours of his administration, including that of his former chief of staff James "Jim" Clark to the Alaska Natural Gas Development Authority. Clark later pleaded guilty to conspiring with a defunct oil-field-services company to channel money into Frank Murkowski's re-election campaign. ^^Well done, governor. In March 2007, Palin presented the Alaska Gasline Inducement Act (AGIA) as the new legal vehicle for building a natural gas pipeline from the state's North Slope. This negated a deal by the previous governor to grant the contract to a coalition including BP (her husband's former employer). Only one legislator, Representative Ralph Samuels, voted against the measure, and in June, Palin signed it into law. On January 5, 2008, Palin announced that a Canadian company, TransCanada Corp., was the sole AGIA-compliant applicant. In August 2008, Palin signed a bill into law giving the state of Alaska authority to award TransCanada Pipelines $500 million in seed money and a license to build and operate the $26-billion pipeline to transport natural gas from the North Slope to the Lower 48 through Canada. ^^Palin's shining moment. In June 2007, Palin signed into law a $6.6 billion operating budgetthe largest in Alaska's history. At the same time, she used her veto power to make the second-largest cuts of the construction budget in state history Palin strongly supports drilling for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR), which McCain has opposed. They also disagree on her belief that global warming is not caused by human activity. "Two major Alaska newspapers have questioned Palins competency for the Vice Presidency. In an editorial dated August 30, 2008, the Anchorage Daily News wrote "It's stunning that someone with so little national and international experience might be a heartbeat away from the presidency.""[/hide]
  3. [hide=] It was actual days in the senate. No, it wasn't actual days in the senate. He took office in January of '05. Still about Two and a half years. By the way, Obama made it to more votes than McCain, so playing that card is useless. No, you cannot loaf it once in office, especially if you plan on getting elected president. He did more in a short period of time than most. As a governor, you aren't just handed a state by the federal govt. and get told: "Run it." Obama is in charge of keeping over 12 million people happy. Palin is in charge of a mere 670,000. Senators work just as hard as governors, especially those who are running for president. Senators do not work as hard as governors. And I mean actual days where the senate was in session and he was there. He did not really do anything much in the senate aside from voting for Cheney's 2005 energy bill that had tax cuts for oil companies(which McCain voted against), propose the Iraq war deescalation act which would have insured that we lost in Iraq. Everyone like to say "ethics reform". Even Obama. At saddleback they asked him one thing he did against his party for the good of the country. His answer was the ethics bill that he worked on with John McCain in 05 or 06. In fact they worked together for less than a week and after McCain sent Obama this letter... Obama decided against working in a bipartisan effort and did what the democratic leaders wanted. Not to mention that democratic leaders supported that bill so it wasn't really against his party. And I think Obama was also one of the one who endorsed Lieberman in the primary and then turned right around and endorsed Lamont. Party has to come first right? [/hide] Proof: 109th Congress - Obama missed 1.7% of the votes. McCain missed 9.0% of the votes. 110th Congress - Obama missed 45.5% of the votes. McCain missed 63.8% of the votes. List of things Obama has been a part of BEFORE announcing he would run for President: [hide=*Sigh*]-"Obama voted in favor of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 and cosponsored the Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act." -"Later in 2007, Obama sponsored an amendment to the Defense Authorization Act adding safeguards for personality disorder military discharges.[64] He sponsored the "Iran Sanctions Enabling Act" supporting divestment of state pension funds from Iran's oil and gas industry, and co-sponsored legislation to reduce risks of nuclear terrorism." -"Obama also introduced the Iraq War De-Escalation Act of 2007." -"In December 2006, President Bush signed into law the "Democratic Republic of the Congo Relief, Security, and Democracy Promotion Act," marking the first federal legislation to be enacted with Obama as its primary sponsor." -"Obama held assignments on the Senate Committees for Foreign Relations, Environment and Public Works and Veterans' Affairs through December 2006." -"He also became Chairman of the Senate's subcommittee on European Affairs. As a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Obama has made official trips to Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia and Africa."[/hide] Sarah Palin's turn: [hide=Oops]Shortly after taking office, Palin rescinded 35 appointments made by Murkowski in the last hours of his administration, including that of his former chief of staff James "Jim" Clark to the Alaska Natural Gas Development Authority. She really didn't do a heck of a lot. Honestly. Research it yourself, she's done nothing worth noting.
  4. Well good luck telling that to a large percentage of Christians who now accept the all-loving and kind god as their god. If you want to know why, here is the plain and simple answer: WARINING: IF YOU ARE A BELIEVER, YOU MAY TAKE OFFENSE. THIS IS ALL MY OPINION. I AM TRULY SORRY TO ANYONE WHO TAKES THIS AS ANYTHING BUT MY POINT OF VIEW, AS THERE IS NO WAY OF PROOVING WHAT INTENTIONS PEOPLE HAD 2000 YEARS AGO. In the times of old and new testaments, the idea of god was used to keep people in line. It scared people into thinking that if they acted in a socially unacceptable manor, they would be punished forever. This is where the need for a vengeful god comes in. Today, governments set laws and punishments for us. This is why god no longer needs to appear vengeful, but loving. Knowing god loves you instills a feeling of connection between you and god, and instant relationship. It's a great concept. Someone who is all know and all powerful loves you. Quite the fuzzy feeling indeed. On the current topic: I find that everytime I get involved in a debate with a believer of any religion, they often tell me that I wouldn't understand scriptures/passages/stories because I've never read the bible/other holy text. I find this to be a somewhat rude assumption. In reality, I've read the bible. I've been to church hundreds of times. I've had faith in a god before. I understand Christianity. I would sincerely like a well laid out argument which leaves me no doubt as to whether or not there is a god, without being told I wouldn't understand it. However, I think no such argument exists. If there is such an argument which cannot be discredited or disproven ,(and sadly, 60+ pages into this discussion there isn't) I would like to see it

  6. Just to mess around with his powers? Didn't create it for us? Are you really that ignorant, rude, and stupid to mean something like that? Wait till you grow up and can actually comprehend the entire thing before dropping out at the ripe ol' age of 12. Reading your post, it's obvious you've never picked up the bible and read any part for yourself. =D> Actually, I'm just a few years past being 12, although you might call 12 my "age of reason". I have picked up a bible, I've read through 75% of it, and honestly, I end up laughing at most of it, and researching the parts I don't understand. I have a more thorough knowledge of the bible than most my age. Are you really that rude and ignorant to call out someone you know nothing about? Do you have any knowledge of me? Absolutely not. I find it funny that you did nothing to disprove my thoughts on the issue, and simply resorted to name calling.
  7. God rested on the 7th day in order to establish the sabbath, in which all people are supposed to rest and thank God for his creation (mass). Is god really so full of himself that he has to take one day a week out just so you can "admire" his creation? Oh, and how does going to church and constantly hearing about hellfire and brimstone constitute as "rest"? He created the earth for us. What are we supposed to do? Take it for granted and not thank him at all? You must be going to a weird church, because for the past 10 years I have been going to mass, I have never been lectured by a priest about hellfire and brimstone. I gave up going to church after I was 12 years old and all I heard about was burning in hell and how I should thank god for everything because only through him will I be successful. A couple of things to ponder: What if god didn't create Earth for us? Perhaps he created it for someone else, or another species, or just to mess around with his powers. What does it matter if we take the Earth for granted or not? If we're good people, supposidly, we'll get into heaven. What's the point of taking any amount of time out of your day to say thanks to an invisible man in the sky who loves you anyway?

  9. Lol, you know what's funny? People [cabbage] on Palin for lack of experience when she has more executive experience than Obama You neglect to mention that Obama has been a part of our Legislative branch for twice as long as Palin has been part of our Executive branch. If anything, Obama's experience is more valuable because he understands how Congress works and can easily connect with the Legislative branch on any and all issues. Palin having Executive experience seems to be the only argument when comparing the two's records, and Obama is in charge of 19 times as many people as Palin. What branch of the government you come from only goes so far. Obama's experience will do him wonders. Palin isn't even going to be the head of the Executive branch if her ticket wins, so I don't really understand why it even matters. Completely wrong: http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/02/10/ ... index.html Obama became a Senator in 2004. Two and a half years compared to your (less than) 150 days. I don't understand why Executive experience matters so much more than Legislative. All branches have equal power. If anything, being connected with two branches is BETTER than simply being confined to one branch. Your argument will most likely be: "He's going to be holding an Executive position." Don't worry, Obama will have a cabinet of advisors who can help him out if he gets into any trouble remembering what branch he's a part of.

    Flag Burning.

Nobody dies for a flag. When will we get this straight? People may die for the ideals of the country the flag represents. I know that's what your getting at, but please, just say it instead of "people have died for the/that flag". I don't know how burning a flag is somehow connected with "burning the people who have worked for the flag". Burn all the flags you want. I believe that burning a flag (if it's done in a peaceful protest of some nature) is very bluntly stating you're sick and tired of what that flag represents. Burning a flag is a cry for change. Both of my grandfathers fought in wars, and in no way do I feel like someone is disrespecting what they did by burning a flag. They are not disrespecting the past so much as they are concerned for the future. A flag is a flag. Don't get caught up in someone lighting some cloth on fire.
  11. I can't possibly pick one specific thing to reply to, so I'll just start at random. On the issue of why god doesn't intervine in disasters: If god is truly all-knowing and all powerful, then he should really have no problems stopping natural disasters (or not creating them at all). There is no sense in allowing a large amount of people to suffer when he/she could simply intervine. People say that god gives us the chance to intervine by sending other people to do his bidding (IE the preacher story mentioned). I don't think giving a preacher money will really end world hunger completely, forever. This logic is basically a cop out for people who blindly defend the thought of god. As for not being able to create a perfect world, don't you think that goes against the whole "all powerful" thing? It's simply idiotic to think that a being is all powerful if he is incapable of any little thing, and by no means is creating a perfect world little. In my opinion, god is a simply a thought presented to anyone who needs comfort or support. God is a great thought. Imagine someone who is entirely perfect in every way. Presents a pretty good role model, eh? However, with natural disasters, terriost attacks, and the rest of the world's problems, I have no real reason to believe in this being who apparently sits by and watches all of this. This topic also reminds me of the age old riddle posed by any non-believer to a religious child: Can god create a rock that is too heavy for him to lift? If he can, then he created something too large for him to lift. If he cannot, then he is incapable of creating something.
  12. Horrible idea. DUI deaths a year are already too high. Why allow for more legal oppourtunities. Giving people a legal means to party isn't going to help.

Well it's fantastic to hear you have a very closed-minded perception on the topic. I don't know how you don't support lower taxes, pulling out of a war, giving women more rights, ect, but that's fine.
  14. Absolutely, 100% for stem cell research. It is a necessity. Unwanted pregnancies helping people heal from debilitating diseases? You bet your sweet buns I'm for it.

[hide=] Obama is a superstar celebrity in every way possible. Look how he is taken in here in the US, everyone loves him, he is our 'Messiah'. He goes overseas, everyone loves him, hes the second coming of Jesus. Its really disgusting. Now have Mccain go overseas, lets see how he is treated. HAH! He is "taken" the way you described because he is a very relatible, honest, caring, and genuine person who cares about the middle class. That's disgusting to you? I call that amazing. How does being loved make you a celebrity? I don't get it. All I'm getting out of this is you think that being liked by a lot of people makes you a "celebrity". McCain goes overseas and is treated the way he is because his policies are horrible, he does not care about the middle class, and he has no idea how to lead. You just used words that should never be in the same sentence with any politician; honest, caring, genuine. This is why I'm voting for a 3rd party this year, I'm a Libertarian, but previous voting years I tried to make vote count, this year I'll really vote for who I prefer. And it won't be the the Messiah. Well have fun tossing your vote out a window. You have given no other reason to not vote for Obama other than the fact that he's liked worldwide. Hey, I guess if that's what sways you, I wouldn't want your vote. Its 1 less vote Jesus. I'd rather throw my vote away than vote for a false prophet. And I said that I'm Libertarian, that would be the reason I'm not voting for him. [/hide] Just remember, you are throwing away your vote for someone who is being made out to be a "false prophet" (by your own suggestion, of course as I myself do not agree with this statement at all) by others, and is not a self-proclaimed messiah. Your reasoning for not voting for him simply because of party lines is ignorant and unjustified. As I said, if I were Obama, I wouldn't want your support.

Learn to read and understand politics? How about yourself, sir? You stated that Barack Obama has done nothing worth noting. Isn't it MORE amazing that he did all that BEFORE he began the road for presidency? He's done quite a bit in such a short amount of time, negating all thoughts of his inexperience somehow hurting America. It really doesn't matter how many things he's voted on, only that he voted on the most important issues, and voted the morally correct way (in his own eyes). HAHAHHA Oh my dear god, yet again we have someone bringing up the idiotic "He's a celebrity" notion. Tell me, what makes him a celibrity on the political scene? What defines a celebrity on the political stage? John McCain has been paraded around as a war hero since I can remember. He's been in the spotlight as a war hero for decades. Celebrity? Look at John McCain. If Obama is a celebrity, McCain is a superstar. As for Palin's approval rating: Pop of Illinois: 12,831,970 Pop of Alaska: 670,053 Obama has more than NINTEEN times as many people to "please". It's a basic rule of thumb: More people, more diversity in opinion. Of course in such a small, concentrated area Palin would have a great approval rating. Obama's approval ratings are not skewed. If anything, they are more eye popping, considering he's keeping up with a wider array of people and opinions. Remember, Obama won 73% of the vote when he won Illinois, and his approval rating is still right around those numbers. I think he's doing a fine job montoring 19 times as many people and keeping up with the election, and the people agree.

You should re-read your last sentence and apply it to yourself. [hide=List of things worth noting]-"Obama voted in favor of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 and cosponsored the Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act." -"Later in 2007, Obama sponsored an amendment to the Defense Authorization Act adding safeguards for personality disorder military discharges.[64] He sponsored the "Iran Sanctions Enabling Act" supporting divestment of state pension funds from Iran's oil and gas industry, and co-sponsored legislation to reduce risks of nuclear terrorism." -"Obama also introduced the Iraq War De-Escalation Act of 2007." -"In December 2006, President Bush signed into law the "Democratic Republic of the Congo Relief, Security, and Democracy Promotion Act," marking the first federal legislation to be enacted with Obama as its primary sponsor." -"Obama held assignments on the Senate Committees for Foreign Relations, Environment and Public Works and Veterans' Affairs through December 2006." -"He also became Chairman of the Senate's subcommittee on European Affairs. As a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Obama has made official trips to Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia and Africa."[/hide] I'd also like to find out why you think that being a governor is SO much more demanding than being a senator. You know, John McCain is a senator as well, so why not treat his position the same way you treat Obama's - as a "less demanding" one? Oh, and as for this: "His constituents are very upset that they elected someone who is not representing them." I think you'll find that's not the case. The people love him: "Nine months into his term, Obama won approval from 72 percent of Illinois voters in the survey. Ten percent said they disapprove of his performance and 18 percent said they had no opinion. Republicans give him a 57 percent approval rating."
