  1. I'm pretty much in agreeance with Lenin on this one. I really think it's somewhat of a stretch to think that a buttefly flapping it's wings can lead to a catastrophic event. I just love to hear other people's stories about how making one decision leads to having something completly out of the normal happen.
  2. Clutch hitting is a make or break. There is no way to teach clutch. The Cubs have a bunch of great players who choke on their own expectations. They looked past the Dodgers and into the NLCS this year. Then, once they lost game 1, they lost all focus and felt sorry for themselves. I hope the Cubs win it soon. I'm a huge fan of the Cubs (and Cleveland Indians, you can imagine what my sports woes are like :() so I hope they can pull it together within my adolescence.
  3. Have you ever had something go a bit different than normal in your daily life, and that little difference puts you in a completely unlikely situation as a result? Alright, I understand that's worded about as badly as it could be, so I'll try to give an example: You usually wake up to go to class at 8:00. You shower, eat breakfast, and are out the door at 8:45. Today goes a bit differently. Today, you wake up at 8:20, and you have to rush everything. You get to your car at 8:48. You're a little late, so you rush a bit to make it on time. As you turn the corner out of your neghiborhood, someone crashes right into your passenger side door. You suddenly realize: "If I had just woken up on time, this wouldn't have ever happened. I never would have even seen this guy." Has this ever happened to you? Has something altered your daily routine which then led to something awful/(or possibly amazing) happening? What chain of events led to a pivotal moment in your life?
  4. Here's a little something I wrote. This should show how likely it is that Obama will win this election. I would be STUNNED if he lost this election, based off of what I calculated. [hide=Obama's magic numbers]Election 08: These situations assume the following: -Obama wins all of the following states (All of these states have been won the by the Democratic nominee in the last three elections, save New Hampshire and Iowa, and he holds a substantial lead in all of them): Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Illinois, Vermont, New York, Pennsylvania, Iowa, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Washington, California, Oregon, Hawaii, and the District of Columbia. -Yahoos Electoral College numbers are correct. -If Obama holds Colorado + Nevada + New Mexico, he can lose all of the following and still win: -Ohio, Florida, Virginia, North Carolina, Missouri. -Cannot lose New Hampshire, or else he will have to win one of the above states. -If Obama wins Ohio, he can lose all of the following and still win: -Florida, Virginia, NC, Missouri, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, -If Obama loses New Hampshire, he must win one of the other above states. -If Obama wins Florida, he can lose all of the following and still win: -Ohio, Virginia, NC, Missouri, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, New Hampshire, and even Maine, although it is extremely unlikely that McCain can take Maine. -If Obama wins North Carolina, he can lose all of the following and still win: -Ohio, Virginia, Florida, Missouri, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, New Hampshire. -If Obama wins Virginia and New Hampshire, he can lose all of the following and still win: -Ohio, Virginia, Florida, NC, Missouri, Colorado, Nevada and New Mexico -If Obama loses New Hampshire, he must win one of the other above states. -If Obama wins Missouri, and New Hampshire, he can lose all of the following and still win: - Ohio, Virginia, Florida, NC, Colorado, Nevada and New Mexico. -If Obama loses New Hampshire, he must win one of the other above states. -If Obama wins Colorado, New Hampshire and either New Mexico, or Nevada, he can lose all of the following and still win: - Ohio, Virginia, Florida, NC, Missouri, NM/NV (Depending on which one he doesnt take) - If Obama takes NV or NM, he doesnt have to hold New Hampshire.[/hide] EDIT: You might not think it, but New Hampshire is CRITICAL.
  5. Awww, Lionheart, I loved that maid outfit on you :P OT: I love Ranch Doritos and love love love any type of sour cream and onion crisps.
  6. Petey C is the worst coach in the world when it comes to keeping his team focused.
  7. First off, your a best friend, not a boyfriend. Why are you expecting to come first? To me, a females male "best friend" is essentially a "plan B", or an emotional back up to a boyfriend. They'll love you and all that until a boyfriend, (or better offer) comes up. Sure, they still love you while they are with their better offer, but that doesn't mean they will choose you first. Secondly, it really doesn't matter what you think about them getting together. Just put your 2 cents in and leave it at that. People grow from experience; if they have to learn the hard way so be it. I'm not a plan B to her boyfriend, I'm a plan B to everyone she hangs out with.
  8. I've been thrust into a very odd situation. My two best friends (one guy and one girl) apparently have really hitched it off, and have plans on dating each other. Here are couple of catches: The guy doesn't really need a relationship right now. He broke up with his girlfriend of nearly 3 years a few months ago, and has since picked up smoking cigs and pot, and also drinks a bit. He hasn't gotten over the whole thing yet, and he still doesn't know that she cheated on him several times with another good friend of his, whom she ended up dating. He is in no condition to be dating someone. He's off the rebound so to speak, and he really isn't thinking about this much farther than "It's a girl and she likes me. Free hook-ups." The girl just broke up with her boyfriend yesterday. She hasn't been without a boyfriend for longer than two weeks for more than 4 years. She is very easily taken by anyone who expresses feelings for her. She broke up with her ex-ex-boyfriend in order to date her ex-boyfriend so it wouldn't be looked upon as cheating. I feel like she's probably doing the same with my good friend. She has a history of breaking up with one guy for another. She loses interest so quickly it's not even funny. One week she's hopelessly devoted to a guy, the next, she's looking for someone to replace her current boy. They both refuse to make their relationship public knowledge, because, as they tell me, they don't want people to get the wrong impression, and they don't want the official "relationship" title just yet. The girl is already angered at me. There is a sidestory: The girl and I hung out pretty much every other day from July-September. Since school started, we've seen each other once, and it was only for about two hours. After two hours, she essentially ditched out on me to go drinking at a friends house. She uses me as a plan-B so to speak. If her plans with my best guy friend fall through, she calls me up. If she can't go to a party, she calls me. I HATE being used like that. I'd like to hang out with someone because they like me for who I am, and not because their other plans fell through and they don't want to be alone. I brought all of this to her attention recently, and she flipped out saying that I wasn't a back up plan. So here's my big issue. What to do about all of this? It hurts me to know that if I sit idly by and let them date, it will end in disaster. The girl is a notoriously sexually driven person (she's dated 7 guys, and slept with 10), and if she sleeps with my guy friend (who is currently a virgin), he will become attached. Then she will most likely detach herself from him and look for someone bigger and better. He will be hurt, and I'd hate to see his life more torn apart then it already is. However, I feel like I can't say "STOP! DON'T!" I can't just stop them from doing what they want. It wouldn't be like me to do that, and it would be irresponsible of me to treat my best friends as if they were anything but. How should I handle this? What can I possibly do? EDIT: YES. I am concerned about this infrindging upon the time I get to spend with them both. If I go out with one of them, they'll be texting/calling the other throughout, and I really don't need that. I'd really rather not be a third wheel either and go out with them both, considering it'd be somewhat odd for me to watch them kiss/hug/ect. I am NOT jealous of the boy past the extent I've mentioned (about losing time with both of them). I have no feelings for the girl, as I'm already in a relationship which has spanned 3+ years.
  9. What is your favorite game in the series? Ocarina of Time. BY FAR the best video game of all time. Why? It had the most beautiful storyline I've ever taken a character through, and it's puzzles we're difficult even to the most intelligent gamers. It still takes me around 12 hours to beat the game on a speed run (I always end up getting sidetracked with something subtle, yet fun :), and it's always fun to play it no matter what age I reach. I don't think any game can ever match it's greatness, especially for the time period it came out during. Graphics were fantastic for the N64, and I can't get over how much I loved the storyline. What are you looking forward too in the series? More complex storylines, and more and more intense battles with bosses, considering most of them in the most recent game were quite easy to manage.
  10. I've been wondering why people refer to modern crybaby music as "Emo". Probably for the same reason people who have no idea what metal is think Korn is metal.
  11. #5. Ferris Bueller's day off #4. Spaceballs #3. Airplane #2. The Dark Knight #1. The Shawshank Redemption
  12. I still watch it when I can. I don't plan my day around it or anything, but if I'm flipping through channels, and it's on, I'm probably staying.
  13. Tom Morello of RATM and Audioslave is my favorite guitarist. The way he makes the guitar sound like it's anything but a guitar is very appealing to me.
  14. Every time I see that smiley I want to punch it right in it's stupid face. Perhaps a bit overdramatic, but it looks so stupid. It's like that kid in your school who tells the dumbest jokes you've heard in years and thinks he's a friggen comedian.
  15. How much farther can we go in terms of blatant stupidity? This is hilarious and horrifying to me at the same time. There seems to be no other way of saying expressing my thoughts on this other than: "What a moron".
  16. Currently at 26 hunter. Hope to get the final 9 levels in the upcoming days. Haven't been on much lately, as homecoming and baseball have taken most of my time.
  17. It's good to see that your rebuttal is five words long which, once again, show me that you have no idea what you're talking about. http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/WhosCo ... 304&page=1 And just for fun, I'm going to watch this song dedicated to this very subject:
  18. Casualties: Since war began (3/19/03): 4168 Since "Mission Accomplished" (5/1/03) 4029 Since Capture of Saddam (12/13/03): 3707 4168 dead. What good has come of it? Are we not more scared than ever? Isn't our economy in shambles? Are we not struggling daily with the losses of not only TRILLIONS of dollars, but millions of man hours spent outside our country, and thousands dead. When is enough finally enough?
  19. Prove it he says. This guy. http://www.enterstageright.com/archive/ ... prices.htm http://auto.howstuffworks.com/gas-price.htm There you go. I hope your dad can read.
  20. Like I said, it hasn't got much to do with "estimates". It has to do with the refining and transportation of oil, and the price per barrel. When the hurricane struck, it hit oil refineries hard. There was then a shortage of workers/places of operation to refine the oil, transport it, and distribute it, so therefore the prices went up. It was estimated, it's simple cause and effect.
