  1. Your computer required this entry for the internet to work at all? :? O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{6F710DE4-2F9E-4A38-A07F-FDB6B4F9D340}: NameServer = 10.0.0.138
  2. Your computer may require a restart after the registry changes. Also restart your internet connection.
  3. QT is godike. The day he stops making movies will be a sad sad day :(
  4. That's very strange, it seems the main services that run your BitDefender aren't setup correctly. I would suggest you reinstall BitDefender at once to ensure it's working correctly! From the HiJackThis log you posted it showed that start-up services for the 3 fiels were listed but the files could not be found. These entries could however just be redundant registry key's from previous versions. I would download the latest version then uninstall, reinstall the software just to be sure its running correctly. Let me know how you go.
  5. O16 - DPF: {15AD6789-CDB4-47E1-A9DA-992EE8E6BAD6} - http://static.windupdates.com/cab/CDT/ie/bridge-c18.cab Ad delivery software, adware. O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{6F710DE4-2F9E-4A38-A07F-FDB6B4F9D340}: NameServer = 10.0.0.138 Un-needed server name server IP cache. O23 - Service: BitDefender Scan Server (bdss) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Softwin\BitDefender Scan Server\bdss.e3e (CAUTION - executable file)" /service (file missing) Un-used BitDefender scan server registry entry. O23 - Service: BitDefender Virus Shield (VSSERV) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Softwin\BitDefender Professional Edition\vsserv.e3e (CAUTION - executable file)" /service (file missing) Un-used BitDefender virus sheild registry entry. O23 - Service: BitDefender Communicator (XCOMM) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Softwin\BitDefender Communicator\xcommsvr.e3e (CAUTION - executable file)" /service (file missing) Un-used BitDefender Communicator registry entry. I'm guessing you've previously had an installation of BitDefender security suite on your computer and it wasn't completely uninstalled. The very first entry is probably the active-x control that was installed in the instance you described.
  6. Yes, securing Internet Explorer is a must. It as open-ended features like Active-X that other browsers dare not touch. Unfortunately Microsoft weren't very user-friendly with the implementation of it, its not even secured tightly by default in XP SP2. I gave someone else some suggestions for putting down some groundwork security on Internet Explorer in this thread, http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=229910 If you feel that you can't secure your browser effectively then Firefox would be a great alternative, it is secure from the default installation and has a good pop-up blocker also. If you are determined to use Internet Explorer (the Runescape client download uses Internet Explorer), then I would strongly suggest that you download Spybot: Search and Destroy version 1.3 and install it. When installing it make sure you tick the check box's to install the Resident ID Sheild and also the Real-time registry watcher, TeaTimer. These two tools are great for Internet Explorer's uses because it stop's any unsecure website's from changing your Internet Explorer settings or editing your registry. Let me know how you go.
  7. Theres nothing too drasticly bad in there, but clear these entries: O16 - DPF: {15AD6789-CDB4-47E1-A9DA-992EE8E6BAD6} - http://static.windupdates.com/cab/CDT/ie/bridge-c18.cab O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{6F710DE4-2F9E-4A38-A07F-FDB6B4F9D340}: NameServer = 10.0.0.138 O23 - Service: BitDefender Scan Server (bdss) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Softwin\BitDefender Scan Server\bdss[Caution: ExecutableFile]" /service (file missing) O23 - Service: BitDefender Virus Shield (VSSERV) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Softwin\BitDefender Professional Edition\vsserv[Caution: ExecutableFile]" /service (file missing) O23 - Service: BitDefender Communicator (XCOMM) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Softwin\BitDefender Communicator\xcommsvr[Caution: ExecutableFile]" /service (file missing) Also I would suggest you setup your browser so it doesn't automatically install anything, nor even prompt you, unless it is a signed certificate. Go into your Internet Explorer's Internet Options from the Tools menu. Under the security tab, click the Custom Level button. Then select High from the dropdown menu and click the Reset button. This will basically stop your browser from installing Active-X controls or executing active scripts locally. These two major issues are the only real "security concerns" with Internet Explorer (even though they are actually features but alot of the time left unsecured). Also you might want to ensure your Pop-up blocker is enabled and configured correctly. Also in Internet Explorer's Internet Options, go to the Privacy tab and tick the Block pop-ups check box. Then click on the Settings button. Untick both the bottom check box's (this will remove the annoying information bar alerts, unless you really want to keep them!), then make sure the dropdown menu is set to Medium. Thats all I can think of right now, good luck.
  8. I'll just add a note there in Internet Explorer's defense. It isn't a "security issue" with Internet Explorer that causes malware to be installed, but a lack of security settings being applied by the user.
  9. That's exactly how they're done. You could always attach a camera to the middle back of the notebook monitor then setup a Web Desktop with the camera playing in realtime lol. Well... a funny idea but at least it could work :P
  10. Malware is gonna love your computer...
  11. I have the exact same notebook as you mate :) But I have a 26" lcd tv for it not a little dell lcd :P
  12. You could try the mirrors located on linuxiso.org. Try this link, http://www.linuxiso.org/distro.php?distro=64
  13. What exactly isn't working in the process? Also it will help if you supply what operating system your trying to reformat. There is a FAQ on reformatting, check the FAQ Index sticky, it lists it in here.
  14. I think you missed the point. I myself have recommended Dell for pre-made computers from a name brand for low end computers. Building your own computer as you have done is always the perferred option if you want the best parts possible for your money.
  15. I'ld strongly suggest Cent OS 3.3 over Fedora. I've found it easier to use. Also the newest version, Cent 4 I think is almost in a stable release! Good luck.
  16. Search this website, http://www.driverguide.com username: drivers password: all Also your distro version is out of date, perhaps the newest version has better modem driver support. I'm not totally up with Linux but installing the modem manually, pointing to new drivers you download, would be the first thing I'ld try. Let me know how you go mate.
  17. Best names I've seen are "Sir" and "C". Sir was around early in game and C I saw quite abit on Members in 2003.
